Wonderboom 2 pairing

This post offers general Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 setup instructions, to get your speaker playing music from your phone, tablet, or other Bluetooth source device. First, of course, for new speakers, unpack them and make sure that they have some charge in their batteries.  Then, with your speaker turned OFF (all dark top panel LEDs), follow these steps to set it up with most any BT source device.  Finally, in this demo, we show how this setup works on an iPad Air tablet. But a like routine works for iPhones, iPods, and Android phones and tablets too.

Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Setup Instructions, Step by Step

1. Unpack and Charge the Speaker

2. Next, Visit the Home Screen on your Bluetooth Device

Press the Home button to get to the  Home  page.  See ourHome screen as shown next on our iPad.

3. Find the iPad  Settings  App

We found ours on the second page of the  Homescreen on our tablet.

4. Bring up the Settings App

Then, tap the Settings app icon.

The iPad Air then shows the first page of its  Settings  screen, as shown in the next screenshot

5. Go to the  Bluetooth Settings  Page to Continue with Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Setup Instructions

Next, tap the  Bluetooth  item, as pointed at by the dark green arrow in the last screenshot above.

Our  Bluetooth Settings screen then appears as follows. Note that we switched ON our Bluetooth on this tablet. But since the speaker is currently OFF, it does not show in either the  My Devices  or  Other Devices lists on the tablet yet,  Why?  Because we&#;ve never paired it with this iPad before.  Plus, the speaker is not yet broadcasting its BT connection info. This looks something like as shown next.

Note in this picture that no Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 appears just yet.

6. Turn On your Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Speaker

Next, turn on the speaker by rapidly pressing its  Power  button.

See this button, pointed at by yellow arrow, in the next picture.

The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 then comes on, letting you know this by making a startup sound.

7. Put your Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 into Bluetooth Pairing Mode

Now, to see your speaker on your iPad Air, place it into BT pairing mode. For that, press and release the Bluetooth button, as circled in the next picture.

When you press this Pairing button, the speaker makes an offbeat but cool pairing sound. Plus, a lamp in this button starts fast-flashing white. See this in the last picture above.

8. Find your Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 on your iPad Air

See the picture next. We found ours, as pointed at by the yellow arrow in the next picture.

9. Pair with your Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Speaker

Tap the listed speaker in the  Other Devices  section of the  Bluetooth Devices  list, shown above.

Your iPad Air then pairs with the Wonderboom 2 (appears as &#;WONDERBOOM 2&#; in this demo).

The  Bluetooth Settings  screen then changes to display something like the following.

Note that the speaker now shows as paired, as pointed at by the yellow arrows in the last picture.

Finally, we have now successfully setup the Ultimate Ears Wonderboom 2 Bluetooth speaker on an iPad Air tablet.  Audio output from that iPad now plays on this speaker, which is what you want. Bluetooth set up like this works with most other Bluetooth source devices as well.

(Pocket-lint) - The Ultimate Ears Wonderboom is one of our favourite speakers; it's compact, has performance that belies its size and it's simple - and now there's an updated version.

The succinctly-named Wonderboom 2 keeps a lot of the original about it, with a similar compact form factor, waterproofed to IP67 levels, and available in a range of colours. 

It also keeps the simple approach: it's not a smart speaker or anything else, it is just a compact Bluetooth speaker designed to be used anywhere.

Like the previous version, the Wonderboom 2 can be paired with another Wonderboom and here's where one of the new skills comes it - it now offers stereo pairing, so you can get greater differentiation between left and right channels for more immersive and nuanced audio. 

The stereo pairing is only available on two Wonderboom 2 devices (it's not supported on the original because it has a different chipset) acting in a pair. 

Elsewhere, Ultimate Ears has made an addition to reflect how Wonderbooms are being used. There's now a button on the bottom of the speaker that will let you switch to an outdoor mode.

This mode adapts the sound for outdoor listening, cutting the bass and boosting the treble to push those parts of the audio that you can actually hear outdoors. That makes the music sound a little shrill compared to the more rounded bassy sound - but it's designed to cut through outdoor noise better.

The new speaker will be available immediately and is priced at £ - which was the RRP for the original. If you're looking for a bargain, however, the original Wonderboom can be snapped up for nearly half that price.

This piece explains how to connect two Wonderbooms together so that they both play the same audio content from a paired source Bluetooth device.  In this demo, we use one Wonderboom 1, and one Wonderboom 2 speaker to show how connecting two wonderbooms works.  You can indeed connect two Wonderboom 1&#;s, two Wonderboom 2&#;s, or, as we&#;re doing here, you can join a Wonderboom 1 with a Wonderboom 2 speaker.

How to Connect Two Wonderbooms 

1. Power Up Both Wonderbooms

We show the Powerbuttons on each of our Wonderbooms in the next pictures.

Press and release the Powerbutton on the first one, and await the power-ON sound.

Then, press and release the Powerbutton on the second Wonderboom, and again, wait for it to come on.

2. Connect the First Wonderboom with a Phone or Other Bluetooth Device

In this demo, we&#;ll first link the Wonderboom 1 speaker with our iPad Air tablet.  If you&#;re not sure how to connect your Wonderboom to a Bluetooth source device, then see our  How to Pair 1 Wonderboom Speaker   post for details.

3. Press and Release the Play / Pause Button on the First Speaker to Continue with How to Connect Two Wonderbooms

Next, press and hold the middle (Play / Pause) area of the Wonderboom you just connected with your BT source device until the speaker makes a connect sound and the pairing lamp starts fast-flashing.  In our scenario, our first speaker is the original Wonderboom (the first version of this series), and in the next picture, we show where to press.  E.g. In the area enclosed by the green rectangle.

4. Press the Play / Pause Button on the Second Wonderboom

Next, press and release the middle area of the second Wonderboom.  In this scenario, ours is the second version of the Wonderboom (Wonderboom 2), and in the next picture, we show where to press on this speaker, with the yellow arrow.

The speaker then makes a ready-to-connect sound, and the pairing light just above the center button in the last picture, blinks briefly.  Then, once this speaker connects with the first Wonderboom, the pairing lamp starts glowing steadily.

5. Done with How to Connect Two Wonderbooms !

Your two Wonderbooms are now connected together.  Thus, when you play audio on your Bluetooth source device, you&#;ll now hear it through both Wonderbooms at the same time.

Note that each Wonderboom provides stereo sound, and this holds true even when you have two of them joined to each other.  In other words, each speaker provides stereo whether or not it&#;s connected to another Wonderboom.  Thus it&#;s not the case that the first Wonderboom plays the left channel and the second plays the right. Both Wonderbooms play both channels, in stereo, in fact.

Breaking the Two Wonderbooms Connection

To break the connection between the two Wonderbooms, simply power down the second one.  After that, the first one (the one that you connected with your Bluetooth device) continues playing.

Now powering down the first one will also break the connection between it and the second speaker, and the second speaker will stop playing.  But this also breaks the link with the source BT device.  So powering OFF the first speaker stops BOTH speakers, although the second one will still be ON until you turn it off.
