About Us

Colorado Shiba Inu Rescue (COSIR) is a (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to the rescue and rehoming of Shiba Inus, and Shiba Inu mixes, in Colorado.   While in rescue, all our dogs are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, given heartworm prevention, and any/all veterinary care necessary to ensure they are healthy and ready for their forever homes.  We also provide post-adoption training for our younger dogs, and maintain a lifelong relationship of support with our alumni. We have an all volunteer staff who donate their free time to saving Shibas because of their love and appreciation for the breed.

The Shiba Inu is a very unique breed with very strong personality traits, and they are not for everyone! People often decide they want a Shiba because they are cute, without doing any research first, and don&#;t know what they are getting into.  For this reason, many Shibas end up in shelters, surrendered by their owners, or abandonded. COSIR understands and appreciates the uniqueness of this quirky and difficult breed, and has the expertise to ensure each dog finds the right forever home.  This challenging of a breed warrants an in-dept screening process for adopters, and our goal is to find each dog their FOREVER home, not just their NEXT home.

COSIR takes in Shibas from animal shelters or other rescues, as well as from owners looking to surrender their Shiba in order to give them a better life.  Shibas typically do not do well in shelter environments and are often deemed un-adoptable and euthanized. COSIR prioritizes taking in Shibas from local shelters and places them in foster homes. By doing this, we not only relieve the shelter load, so they can help other dogs, but we give a deserving dog a chance at life.

We do not have a shelter facility for you to visit and meet our dogs.  All of our dogs are cared for in loving foster homes.  An adoption application must be submitted, reviewed, and pre-approved prior to scheduling a home visit to meet our dogs.

Our Mission Statement

Shiba Inu Rescue of Florida (SIRF) is dedicated to the welfare of companion Shiba Inu and Shiba mixes in Florida (and beyond, as feasible). We rescue and find loving homes for homeless Shiba Inu. All dogs will be spayed/neutered and up-to-date on all preventatives and medical care before adoption. In addition to rescue, we assist Shiba Inu owners with training and with medical care for their dogs, in order to help them avoid rehoming loved family members. We also educate the public with regard to the importance of spay/neuter and appropriate training for companion dogs. We are an all volunteer group and operate fully on donations from our supporters.

About Shiba Inu Rescue of Florida

Started in June , SIRF is a Shiba Inu rescue group located in Florida. Our goal is connecting potential adopters with the perfect Shiba companion giving the dog a forever home and the adopter a wonderful addition to their family. We are also working towards having fosters in all regions of Florida to help with any Shibas in need throughout the state. We are all volunteers and work on rescue from our homes. Many of us also have a rescue foster or two to care for as well as our own dogs and cats! We do this while working full time jobs! It’s all about saving neglected and abandoned Shibas, one dog at a time!

If you are able to foster and would like to help please click through to our forms page to apply. We will contact you and go over your application as well as set up a home visit and then you will be on your way to fostering! If you are from another area of the country please feel free to fill out the foster form and we will forward it on to the rescue closest to your area.

If you aren’t familiar with the Shiba Inu please read our breed information page. We hope your enjoy our site. Feel free to browse around and learn about our mission and the Shiba Inu.

Welcome to
Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue!

Midwest Shiba Inu Rescue (MSIR) was founded in and is a a registered (c)3 non-profit and licensed rescue.  We help to save and place Shiba Inus throughout the Midwest, including Minnesota, Nebraska, Iowa, Missouri, Kansas, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana.

MSIR does not have a facility - we are a network of volunteers and foster homes throughout the Midwest.  MSIR dogs live in volunteer foster homes where their medical needs are taken care of and they receive love, care and a little training until they can be placed in their forever home.  You can learn more about our adoption process here.

MSIR is a non-profit organization that is able to care for and find loving homes for Shibas thanks to our generous volunteers and donors.  Some of the dogs we save are in danger of being euthanized in shelters, others are released from puppy mills, come in as strays, have medical or behavior issues or are from homes where their owners are not able to care for them anymore.

We always are in need of more foster homes, volunteers and donations to provide care.  Please learn more about how you can help here.

Shiba Inu

Native Japanese dogs are divided into six breeds. Of these, the smallest and probably most ancient is the Shiba Inu. In fact, one theory about the name shiba is that it simply denotes small; however, it may also mean brushwood in reference to the brilliant red brushwood trees that so closely matched the breed’s red coat. These theories have resulted in the Shiba’s being nicknamed the little brushwood dog.

The origin of the Shiba is unclear; but they are clearly of spitz heritage and may have been used as early as b.c. as a hunting dog in central Japan. Three main types existed and each was named for their area of origin: the Shinshu Shiba (from the Nagano Prefecture), the Mino Shiba (from the Gifu Prefecture), and the Sanin Shiba (from the northeast mainland). After World War II, the breed was nearly lost, and it was further decimated by distemper in In an attempt to save the Shiba Inu, the different types were interbred, crossing the heavier-boned dogs from mountainous regions with the lighter-boned dogs from other regions. As a result, the Shiba survived as one breed with some variation in bone substance. Since then, Shibas have achieved a staunch following, and their popularity continues to grow.

4 Reasons Why you should NOT get a Shiba Inu Puppy

At that moment he was on a business trip in Europe, and upon arrival he was going to propose to her. I was only happy for her. Six months later, she called me, invited me to the wedding. But for reasons not to open the wound to any of us, I politely refused.

Similar news:

And everything that could turn. He sat and looked at all his invitees to the long table in front of his throne. Everyone who made up this world of his. All whom he himself created by his own power, like this lower otherworldly infernal world filled with the spirits of dead people and larvae. Voilenfur is the king of the second level.
