The body of your essay argues, explains or describes your topic. Each main idea that you wrote in your diagram or outline will become a separate section within the body of your essay. Each body paragraph will have the same basic structure. Begin by writing one of your main ideas as the introductory sentence.A basic essay writing service reviews consists of three main parts: introduction, body, and conclusion. Following this format will help you write and organize an essay. However, flexibility is important. While keeping this basic essay format in mind, let the topic and specific assignment guide the writing and organization.

I've posted a posting before some where I was helped quickly. Now I have the following problem and hope for help. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad S510P. In this are still the original 4GB RAM installed. Now I have a RAM kit (2x8GB) that I have installed. After starting the laptop beeps only, there is no picture and the device does not boot. I'm worried that the laptop does not recognize the memory or is not recognized by the BIOS.

Since I already had problems with a WLAN card with the same laptop some time ago, I received a modded BIOS here in the forum with which the new WLAN card worked. I hope someone can help here.

Acer Predator Helios 500 Mods

Finally a guide to learn you how to get the most out of your Acer Predator Helios 500 Laptop! I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out all the tweaks described below.

This post describes:

  • Why I chose the Acer Predator Helios 500,
  • How to install and runUbuntu 18.04LTS (generally speaking Linux) smoothly,
  • Undervolting the CPU: A whopping Free 30% CPU Performance Gain while running at cooler temperatures,
  • How to disassemble the Helios 500: access CPU, motherboard, RAM sticks, bios chip, NVMe drives and more hardware,
  • Disconnecting the HDD and battery: I don’t use them but would like to preserve them,
  • And Modding the BIOS: unlock hidden settings to tweak your system even further (like RAM overclocking or increasing Turbo Boost Time).

And the good news is: all those tweaks are suitable for other laptops too!

Why The Helios 500

Acer Predator Helios 500

Installing Ubuntu 18.04LTS using an USB Key

Because it’s staying cool! I use mainly my computer to:

I wanted a laptop with the following specs:

  • 17.3 inches screen: I don’t move much, so it’s perfectly fine to have a big screen laptop with a nice cooling system,
  • No overheating: given most builders focus on making laptops thinner and thinner, it’s increasingly difficult (especially with 6-cores mobile CPUs like the 8750h) to find laptops that don’t overheat. This is concerning since overheating induces throttling which drastically reduces CPU performances (and lifespan).

Having an Acer V3-772G which is quite loud (fan always running with a pretty weird noise), I wanted a laptop capable of running my daily tasks while emitting as little noise as possible. I’ve considered:

That’s when I found about the Acer Predator Helios 500. The review on notebookcheck was pretty solid:

  • Exceptional cooling: even at high load, the CPU remains cool and fans are really quiet too,
  • Excellent performance: the new Intel 8750h 6 cores / 12 threads CPU is more than capable of running everything I need (although I’m used to a 16 cores Dual Xeon 2670 / 128GB RAM for two years now),
  • Great expandability: supports up to 2x M2 NVMe SSDs along with up to 64GB RAM,
  • And 17 inches screen.

That being said, this machine has some drawbacks:

  • Heavy: it’s a 17.3 inches laptop, isn’t it?
  • Thick: you can’t have both exceptional cooling and a thin bezel at the same time,
  • And Expensive: around 1800€ for a 8750h / 16GB RAM / GTX 1070 combo as of now.

Let’s dive now into details you won’t find in other regular reviews about the Helio 500: how to get the last bit of performance out of it!

8750H or 8950HK

Given the 8950HK is about 15% faster but the Helios 500 with this CPU is much more expensive (2600€ vs 1999€ in France), it’s not really interesting to buy the latest one.

The Intel 8750h delivers more than enough power for most workloads. See 8750H vs 8950HK for more information.

Given the 8950HK has a higher TDP (Thermal Design Power), it’s more subject to overheating and thermal throttling. Real-world performance are more than likely to be on par with the 8750H (except in rare cases).

I’d rather invest into adding 32GB RAM rather than having a slightly faster CPU. But that’s just a personal choice.

Hardware Components

Here are the Hardware components I found in my Helios 500:

  • CPU: Intel 8750H Coffee Lake, (soldered, can’t be replaced)
  • RAM: 2x 8GB SK Hynix Sodimm DDR4 2400Mhz 17-17-16-39, (takes 2x slots underneath the motherboard)
  • HDD: 1To 2.5 inches Western Digital Blue,
  • SSD: 256GB Hynix PC400 NVMe in slot 2,
  • Graphics Card: Onboard (soldered) Mobile Nvidia GTX 1070.

Only RAM, HDD and SSD can be replaced. All other components are directly soldered on the motherboard.

Setup Ubuntu

Out of the box, you won’t be able to install Ubuntu 18.04LTS because by default:

  • The Hynix PC400 NVMe drive is in RAID with Optane configuration,
  • Secure Boot, which is required by Windows 10, is also enabled by default.

Bios Settings

We’ll need to switch the NVMe disk to AHCI mode and disable secure boot before proceeding further.

How to switch to AHCI

  • Enter bios on startup by hitting F2,
  • Go to Main menu,
  • Locate SATA Mode option and set it to AHCI,
  • Save bios changes and reboot.

Switching off secure boot is a little more tricky since it must be done in 2 steps.

How to disable Secure Boot

  • Enter bios on startup by hitting F2,
  • Go to Security menu,
  • Set a Supervisor Password (and remember it),
  • Reboot,
  • Enter bios on startup by hitting F2,
  • Go to Boot menu,
  • Set Secure Boot to Disabled,
  • Save bios changes and reboot.

Once both options changed, you can boot on a USB stick prepared with an Ubuntu image and proceed to the installation.

Disk Partitions

As the bios is configured in UEFI mode by default, it’s best to configure Ubuntu using an EFI Boot partition.

I would strongly suggest to remove any swap partition and this may cause the SSD to wear-out prematurely, without providing any performance advantage.

Things That Don’t Work

Once you have installed Ubuntu 18.04LTS on the Helios 500, you will quickly notice:

  • Wi-fi card is not detected: the Killer Double-Shot Pro Wi-fi card (which is an Intel AC 9260) is simply not supported without additional drivers,
  • Backlight adjustment through function key is not working,
  • No sound comes from speakers because a headphone is always detected.

Let’s see how to solve all those issues.

Intel AC 9260 Wi-Fi Driver

I found the answer after several hours of research.

You must install :

Also, after each Kernel upgrade, you must install them again (pretty annoying):

And reboot once finished. That’s it! Your wifi card should now be detected properly by Ubuntu.

Nvidia Drivers

Via Software and Updates, choose the Additional Drivers tab and select Nvidia Corporation drivers (proprietary ones). The GTX 1070 works perfectly fine with those.

Backlight

Install :

You can then adjust backlight with commands like (minus 10 percent). Sadly, I don’t really know why the backlight adjustment doesn’t work out of the box.

Anyway, that’s not really a problem since i’m not using the 17.3 inches monitor most of the time, but my external Acer B326HUL 32 inches monitor.

Fix Headphone detection

The built-in audio driver doesn’t detect the headphone jack connection properly. You must use hda-jack-retask to indicate to Ubuntu your jack is disconnected.

Once done, Ubuntu will use the laptop speakers instead. I finally opted for an external sound card based on the cheap CM108 Audio Controller. You can find one on AliExpress for about 3$ shipping included.

Monitoring CPU Temperature

In order to keep an eye on CPU temperature, you can install both and :

With those, you can have the CPU temperature right within the Gnome toolbar.

My CPU is mostly running between 42-45°C on idle and 70-75°C on full load (with undervolting, we’ll see that later).

Let’s see now how we can maximize the performance of this beast!

CPU Undervolting

8750H Undervolting

Undervolting my 8750H with voltage offset

The question you may ask is: Why undervolt the CPU?

By lowering the CPU voltage, you lower the CPU power consumption. The CPU power consumption can be defined as following:

How does this affect CPU performance? To understand this, we must understand how Intel Turbo Boost works. By default, the Intel 8750h has 2 power limits on the Helios 500:

  • PL1 (Power Limit 1): 45W max Thermal Dissipation on full load,
  • PL2 (Power Limit 2): 56.25W max Thermal dissipation on full Turbo Boost frequency for a max duration of 28sec.

By lowering the voltage, you can increase the frequency of the CPU to reach the same Power Limit. The difference is: the CPU runs faster! By undervolting the CPU, we are in fact allowing the Intel Turbo Boost system to run the CPU at a higher frequency for the same heat dissipated.

On the 8750H, on full load:

  • On default Vcore, CPU mostly tops at 2.9Ghz,
  • With a core and cache undervolt (both are tied), the CPU tops at 3.5Ghz mostly.

That’s about 600Mhz per CPU core gained!

On laptops which overheat, this may reduce the CPU temperature. On the Helios 500, I found it didn’t improve temperatures (which are already great), but significantly increased the CPU speed.

Cinebench scores increases by almost 30% from on stock voltage to when undervolted.

Undervolting under Windows

I would suggest to use ThrottleStop. Most users report that it’s more stable than Intel XTU. And you can save your settings and apply them on startup too.

Undervolting under Ubuntu

I used Undervolt:

undervolt is a program for undervolting Intel CPUs under Linux. It works in a similar manner to the Windows program ThrottleStop (i.e, MSR 0x150). You can apply a fixed voltage offset to one of 5 voltage planes, and override your systems temperature target (CPU will throttle when this temperature is reached).

It works great with both the Intel 8750H and the Intel 8950HK.

How Much Undervolting?

I could reach on both core and cache tested stable with Prime95. (which runs on Linux too)

That’s a pretty good results. Most 8750h can reach to without affecting system stability. How low you can go is a lottery: it depends on your CPU.

Undervolting Methodology

  • Set an undervolt setting (like ),
  • Run Prime95 for at least 12h and check for any computation error, (Torture Test + Blend Test)
  • Decrease voltage further by decrements.

Once you’ve found your CPU is not stable (prime95 is crashing or throwing an error), step back the undervolt by a . In my case, I was able to go down to until crashed appeared. I stepped back to .

On my old Intel I could only reach undervolt. Keep in mind this highly depends on the quality of your CPU.

Thermal Paste

As the CPU runs around 45°C on idle and 70°C on full load, I don’t see any good reason to repaste it.

I’ve previously repasted an Acer V3-772G which was reaching 90°C on full load. Once repasted with a good thermal paste, it was hovering the same temperatures as the Helios 500 (but with a much worse CPU cooling system).

It should only provide a marginal improvement (and maybe no improvement at all) on the Helios 500.

Helios 500 Disassembly

There is an excellent Youtube Tutorial explaining how to disassemble the Helios 500.

Disassembly Explained

Disassembly is pretty easy and give you full access to:

  • HDD and NVMe disks,
  • Motherboard including Bios Chips,
  • CPU and GPU heatsinks including fans.

How to Disassemble Acer Helios 500

  • Turn the laptop with the bottom up,
  • Unscrew the 2 screws holding the panel providing access to RAM and disks,
  • Remove the panel with a plastic pryer,
  • Disconnect the battery from the motherboard and remove it by gently pulling it from the outside,
  • Unscrew the Nvme disk heatsink, unscrews nvme disk and remove them both,
  • Unscrew 2 screws holding the SATA HDD drive and disconnect the SATA cable from the motherboard,
  • Unscrew all the outside screws (about 20),
  • Remove the bottom plastic cover gently with a plastic pryer.

I found the process really easy. Once used to it, you can disassemble the bottom panel in 10 minutes.

Disassembly is very useful to:

  • Clean fans and heatsink: when dust builds up, it can dramatically lower the heatsink performance and increase temperatures (and thus fan noise),
  • Disconnect unused components: I have disconnected both the 1To HDD and the battery from the motherboard,
  • Mod the Bios: that’s one of the most interesting part!

Let’s see what’s bios modding and the benefits you can achieve.

Helios 500 Bios Mod

Helios 500 Bios Mod

Kind of scary to do those things on a brand new 2K€ laptop!

Most laptop bioses are restrained by default. That’s completely understandable: most users won’t mess with the bios either. But, for power users like me, it’s a bit frustrating.

I have modded my Helios 500 bios. The goal is to unlock hidden bios settings like:

  • CPU Voltage: apply undervolting right from the bios (no software required anymore!),
  • CPU Turbo Boost Settings: increase CPU Turbo Boost duration to improve performance,
  • RAM Frequency and Timings: take advantage of high speed RAM (although performance gain are marginal),
  • And more!

So, is it really useful? Not as nearly as undervolting. But it still provides a lot of new options like shown on an Helios 300 unlocked bios.

I have modded my bios using:

  • another laptop running Ubuntu with (open-source) installed (supports CH341A programmer),
  • CH341A USB Programmer: read / write bios chips using this USB stick,
  • SOIC 8 clip: connect the CH341A to your bios chip (without desoldering it from the motherboard).

And believe me or not, i’ve overwritten my bios a dozen of times already! That what happens when you play with bios settings you don’t understand.

Where is the Bios Chip

bios installed on the Helios 500 is write protected: it means you need an external hardware programmer to dump and overwrite the bios.

But firts, let’s locate the Bios Chip on the Helios 500.

Helios 500 Bios Chip

Bios Chip is located in red marked section

The bios firmware is unique to your computer. You can’t use a modded bios from another Helios 500 on your own.

The greatest thing is yet to come: you can reprogram your bios chip even when it’s soldered on your mainboard! No need to desolder or replace the chip.

CH341 Programmer

The bios chip is a CMedia GD25Q128D. I’ve only found specs for so I assumed this chip would be almost the same.

Then, we need a CH341A USB programmer.

CH341A
SOIC 8 Clip

Great, now we have the material to first dump the existing bios.

Dumping Existing Bios

  • Connect CH341A USB programmer to another computer,
  • Connect Soic 8 clip to the bios chip on your Helios 500,
  • Dumping the bios using flashrom:

Now that we have a dump of the existing bios, let’s head to Bios Mods forum and ask for a bios mod. You will have to provide a downloadable binary of your existing bios.

Always keep the original bios backup in case something goes wrong.

Someone should mod your bios within a few hours and send it to you by private message. It’s not time to overwrite the bios

Overwrite Bios

  • Connect CH341A USB programmer to another computer,
  • Connect Soic 8 clip to the bios chip on your Helios 500,
  • Overwrite the bios using flashrom:

That should overwrite your existing bios with the binary bios you provided (the modded one). That’s it!

Carefully Reassemble the laptop and boot it. Hit to enter the bios.

Some weird things you may experience:

  • The laptop reboots several times before booting properly: this is fine. Don’t panic, I guess it’s something like a self-check test done by the machine before booting for the first time,
  • The laptop is horribly slow / No wifi / No Nvidia card detected: make sure Secure Boot is disabled within the bios. I’ve spent hours figuring out this one!

Clear CMOS

Usually, when you enter wrong bios settings and the computer won’t boot, you just make a to restore bios default settings. That doesn’t seem to work on the Helios 500.

Everytime I have entered wrong bios settings (like trying to enable the Intel GPU), I had to overwrite the bios with the modded one again. It’s pretty annoying and time consuming, so don’t touch bios settings unless you know what you do.

Useful Unlocked Bios Settings

The settings I mostly use are the following:

  • Overclocking Performance Menu: By enabling Overclocking Feature, you are able to undervolt the CPU directly from the bios. The huge advantage is you don’t need ThrottleStop or Intel XTU anymore. Considering how annoying it is to run them on OS startup, that’s a huge gain,
  • Memory Configuration: by setting the memory profile to Custom Profile, you can tweak RAM frequency and timings. I managed to run the factory Hynix sticks rated for 2400Mhz at . That’s not bad!
  • Power & Performance: You can adjust Turbo Boost Duration from there. By default, the CPU is configured to stay in max turbo boost (3.9Ghz on all cores) for . You can increase that to a maximum of .

In brief: Acer Nitro 5, Helios 300 or Triton 300 (SE) laptops models are receiving a BIOS update to increase the TGP of the RTX 30 series GPUs. The models already out on the market will have the BIOS update available on their support pages. The unreleased models will be updated before launch.

TGP, or Total Graphics Power, defines how much power a GPU can use to operate. As the power used by the GPU increases, the performance also increases, but not proportionally.

The new mobile GPUs featuring AMD Smart Shift and Nvidia Dynamic Boost can dynamically adjust the TGP by juggling the power between the CPU and GPU, resulting in superior performance in games. This TGP is configurable and set by the laptop manufacturer.

Although it isn't common to see laptop manufacturers doing this sort of intervention post-launch, Acer is releasing BIOS updates to increase the TGP of some of its new laptops, including the Nitro 5, the Predator Helios 300 and the Predator Triton 300 (SE) models. TGP increases range from 5W to 30W, with most of them being +5W, +10W, and +15W.

"Our claim to gaming hardware is to offer a balance between the best possible CPU and GPU performance, volume and durability. Accordingly, we are pleased to be able to offer both interested buyers and many of our existing customers improved graphics performance with the BIOS update," stated (translated) Marcel Behm, senior business manager at Acer Germany.

To download the respective BIOS update to your Acer laptop, you should go to the Acer Support website and search for your device using the serial number, SNID or model number. To take a look at how much performance you can expect from an increase in TGP, check out our RTX 3060 Laptop GPU, RTX 3070 Laptop GPU, and RTX 3080 Laptop GPU reviews.

If Acer is doing it, we wouldn't be surprised to see other laptop manufacturers following the same action. Implementation seems relatively simple and definitely worth the free boost in frame rate.

Acer Predator Helios 300: From 100 watts to 110 watts - TGP increase through firmware update

Translator:Stephanie Chamberlain - Translator - 427 articles published on Notebookcheck since 2020

I've been fascinated with technology ever since I got my very first Android smartphone, which was quite a while ago. The power packed into such a small footprint still amazes me. Learning to program made my understanding of technology deeper, and at the same time, it expanded my interest to the area of desktop computers and laptops. All this led me to enjoy reading and watching reviews of new devices, and that's how I stumbled upon Notebookcheck. I immediately found their reviews to be very comprehensive, and luckily, I've even had the chance of translating them since 2019. When it comes to the huge field of technology, I'm currently also interested in specializing in Java programming.

Hi, please help in unlocking advanced menu.

Exact model name: Acer Predator Helios 300 15 PH315-52
Bios ver. 1.06, can be downloaded from here
https://www.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/su...roduct/7983?b=1

I have dump prepared by CH341A and Clip tool, program is Windows version CH341A ver. 1.18 but if necessary I can do from Linux.

Bios chip is Winbond 25Q80EWNIG, Bios itself is InsydeH20 Rev. 5.0

Dump is attached

Btw there is one annoying thing with this laptop, in order to get access to bios chip, you must to remove whole cooling system

Thanks in advance, please let me know if anything else required

@Hyppo - please dump BIOS first The file you've dumped above is EC or other FW / 1MB chip, your BIOS chip will be 16MB chip (example chip ID W25Q64)
Please note, I hate Insyde BIOS, so it may take some bricked BIOS tests before I find correct edit, so be ready to recover. Yes, once we confirm correct edit I will tell you how to do it, it's usually only two bytes need edited with UEFITool and hex editor

Also, since this is a more modern system, I suggest you use 1.30 or 1.34 version software, and if BIOS chip ID is W25Q64FV use this ID instead to dump and write >> W25Q64BV

Hi @Lost_N_BIOS there is another problem, I removed cooling system, battery, memory, ssd but there is no other chip in such package
Are you sure that this 8Mbit chip is not a bios and I must have 128Mbit somewhere?
I will upload pictures of the motherboard shortly

@Hyppo - Did you find the BIOS chip, or use a flash program? In reply to your question at post #4, you didn't send me a 8MB file, you sent 1MB. BIOS chip may be 4MB-8MB-16MB, I don't know, but it's not the 1MB file you sent above at post #1

Did you edit the BIOS, or you got the menu unlocked by someone else? If yes, please send me the unlocked BIOS (or just setup module from it if you want), so I can use it to help unlock BIOS for anyone else later, thanks

From your images, I can't tell for sure, but one of these three may be BIOS if that is SOIC8 chips. I can't tell from the images. If these are not the BIOS, then BIOS may be in WSON package, which I'd need much better images of the chips to be able to tell for sure.

Please don't send PM's for help on BIOS edits, I can't help with BIOS in PM's. Please make a thread and I will try to help as soon as I can - thanks!

@Lost_N_BIOS
Yep those 1Mb chip above is not a bios it is smth else, btw do you have any idea what is it for? can it be used to control fan speed?

While bios is located on opposite side of the motherboard and I needed to remove it in order to access. This is quite annoying but nothing complicated actually, I think I will write small instruction how to do it.
Then I made a dump with Ch341A (those from 1.18 which I uploaded in neighbour thread) and then sent to someone from other forum who unlocked it to me. I have no idea what he did but it works)

Yes, I couldn't see those chips, so don't know size or what they are, it was only thing that "looked" like SOIC8, so I circled for you.
I don't know, it's probably EC FW, or maybe some other controller, this is not something I know how to or have any tools to edit other than direct hex edit which is not helpful unless you know what you are editing.

Yes, that looks like proper BIOS above. You shouldn't need to remove the chip, unless your clip was too fat? When that happens, I always file down the plastic part of the clip and then it makes room

Yes, this is normal, sometimes I have to connect 10+ times too, always looks good too but no keep trying
Some say Pomona clip does better job, but I assume the same with those, but maybe a little less times

@Hyppo - Here is BIOS with unlocked FD, FPRR disabled, and for now only overclock feature ungrayed out and enabled by default (will/still working on all rest of stuff we've been discussing)
Program this in with flash programmer, then test as mentioned below. If you get success after trying to flash SPI.Bin back into the chip with FPT, all is unlocked and you can now redo your thermal paste, and put system back together, rest of edits/flashing can now be done in windows from here on out.
http://www.filedropper.com/dumpcolibrifvm-pre-fpt-mod

Here's FPT how-to - Go to this thread and in the section "C" download the V12 ME System Tools Package
Intel Management Engine: Drivers, Firmware & System Tools

Once downloaded, inside you will find Flash Programming Tool folder, and inside that a Win32 folder. Select that Win32 folder, hold shift and press right click, choose open command window here (Not power shell).
At the command prompt type the following command to attempt to dump entire BIOS at once >> FPTw.exe -d SPI.bin

Right after you do that, try to write back the entire BIOS and see if you get any error, if you do STOP HERE, do not try to proceed, and show me image of the command entered and the error given >> FPTw.exe -f SPI.bin
If you do not get error and all success, then all is good to go, and you can do as I mentioned above, we're done with flash programmer!

If you are stuck on Win10 and cannot easily get command prompt, and method I mentioned above does not work for you, here is some links that should help
Or, copy all contents from the Flash Programming Tool \ DOS folder to the root of a USB Bootable disk and do the dump/flash DOS instead (Same commands, but remove the w from FPTw)

@Hyppo - Hey, that's great news, in that app I showed you, the memory section was blank inside so that's what I thought was maybe a bug and I'd have to look at how it was redirecting the in actual code to fix it.
Turns out it's just more "incompatibilities" of that app and this particular BIOS, that's nice, less things we have to hassle with

If you want a 100% fully unlocked BIOS, you'll have to send me a huge archive of images of every page of your BIOS, all submenus and all settings etc, so I can see what you see vs what is possible/hidden from you.
In the code, I see a lot of settings are suppressed, similar to how that one was grayed out too.

Fan control I've already showed you where that is, two different sections with similar functions (depending on which method you enable/use, those will be applied).
This is the only options in this BIOS for fan/temp control, aside from other power related/performance type options that can affect CPU speed+Power draw thus temps

On the memory, I'm sure you noticed, but in case not, you can also set "Custom" instead of XMP, and then set whatever you want for speed, timings, voltages etc
Most laptops with DDR4 can do speeds like this, if their CPU supports it, and BIOS is modified (and not gimped by manufacturer at the hidden settings)

That does not look right in the FPT write operation, for two reasons, but at least we don't see any deny of flash or error when flash proceed (ie unlocks all good!). The ME disable message doesn't look good, and it doesn't look like it wrote much for the actual writes it did (but may be due to same contents already on flash).
This leads me to wonder, if your ME FW is corrupted, or disabled/damaged? Did you disable it? If not, please run this from MEInfo folder and show me output >> MEINfoWin.exe -verbose

And then test this command, but be ready to recover with programmer! Show me outcome before you reboot, I mean the process/feedback it gives you as it write like you did above.
FPTw.exe -rewrite -f SPI.BIN

After you take the screenshot from the above, close anything you are working on and save the above image, then run the following
System should automatically reboot, if not, shut down, remove PSU cable, remove main batter, press and hold case power on button for 10 seconds, then let sit for 1+ minute without power. This will reset the ME FW state, if it's not disabled or corrupted
FPTw.exe -greset

You may need to reprogram with flash programmer after the above -rewrite, if you do not, then all is OK as far as FPT usage is concerned, we'll fix the ME FW is necessary and then you can put system back together.
If you didn't have to recover, then once you reboot back into windows from teh -greset reboot, make another MEInfoWin.exe -verbose image for me too (If it's exact same as first, just post one and tell me both = same)

Please don't send PM's for help on BIOS edits, I can't help with BIOS in PM's. Please make a thread and I will try to help as soon as I can - thanks!

Hi @Lost_N_BIOS

1. Yes I'd like to have 100% unlocked bios. It's not a problem for me to take photos of each section screen in the bios and send to you if you are ever going to compare it
Or probably I can do smth myself? For example, I can try to change every settings and check that there are no any greyed out ones, is it correct approach?
Please let me know which way you prefer

2. Regarding FPT, no I didn't disable ME and I even don't know what is it Also it said that GbE region not exist, do I need it too?
Hey @Lost_N_BIOS
I survived after a -greset

2.1. I run Meinfowin -verbose and got following

The difference between -verbose before and after is only this

2.5 But then I run again fptw -d and fptw -f and again it says that ME disabled

It's not a good, rt?

3. I also have another question, we are unlocking bios and making it accessible from command prompt, right? From the view of IT security, malware threats and unattended access of other users, how safe is it? Can I make my system real secure like enable security boot, set supervisor password in bios but then it means I need an option to prohibit access to bios from OS so it is opposite to what we do

@Hyppo - #1 - yes, I would compare and unlock it all, once you send images to me, of course I would - I asked for the images for that reason, why wouldn't I?
Yes, some settings will be hidden or possibly grayed out, until something above them is enabled, but those should be very few. If you find those, you can let me know which control that, and what they make visible, then I can do any still missing.
But again, that's not going going to be very many things setup like that. Now, once I ungray something, then you may have more that do this, like the Overclock option, but when I ungray something I'll probably unlock everything tied to it at same ungray edit.

#2. - OK, I will fix ME FW then! GbE is Intel Gigabit Internet, it's a BIOS module, some BIOS do not have this, so that can be ignored (PDR messages too)

Let me ask Plutomaniac if he knows why from your MEInfo report above, why FPT would say that ME Disabled image, but I assume it just needs ME FW updated and reset which I'll do right now anyway while we wait on his reply, and then if he says something different than that needs done we can do next.
For now though, all this proves we've got all your locks removed, and can now move forward always with FPT instead of programmer, so you can redo your paste and put system back together now. Just don't flash in any early mod BIOS before I removed all locks, or stock BIOS, and it will all remain unlocked.

#3 - The locks I removed allow FPT use from DOS or windows. It's fine, unless you think someone is going to physically sit in front of your computer and install a virus from USB Stick.
BIOS password only helps with the above mention situation too, no need for that unless you want to lock out your wife or room mate etc from changing your BIOS settings
Yes, you can enable secure boot if you want, that may require you to reinstall your OS, and the BIOS and or your hardware may not support it either (I've not looked at that)
The main thing these allow is BIOS flashing by someone sitting at your computer, if you don't have to worry about that, then you don't need these enabled.

New BIOS coming shortly with fixed, updated ME FW

Plutomaniac - can you please check above FPT image vs the MEInfo report, and maybe tell me why FPT says "Warning - Unable to detect ME Disabled"
I plan to redo/UPD the ME FW, but just in case this carries on past that, I wanted to know if you can spot why this is in the report or from past experience, in case it carries over so I can fix if need be.

* Edit 2 - @Hyppo - here is BIOS with all previous changed + ME FW fixed - http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?fil...719575951890072

Flash it like this >> FPTw.exe -f FVM2.bin
The, before reboot >> FPTw.exe -greset

Then, enter BIOS, load optimized and save/exit, reboot back to BIOS and make all changes you need.
After that, boot to windows, and test again this >> FPTw.exe -f FVM2.bin

On that last flash, do you get same "ME Disabled" message? If yes, please provide new MEInfoWin.exe - verbose log for plutomaniac to inspect.

Please don't send PM's for help on BIOS edits, I can't help with BIOS in PM's. Please make a thread and I will try to help as soon as I can - thanks!

@Lost_N_BIOS

So I did FPTw.exe -f FVM2.bin

then -greset, system rebooted auto, then loaded bios setup defaults and then booted to the windows
but message was still there
