Probably the best "budget" X board. Has VRMs that rival premium boards that are several hundred more.

Damn if this was last week I just ordered a TUF Pro for $ because I couldn't get the Tomahawk this cheap.

Mostly equivalent boards from what I understand anyway.

Not really unless you will like to upgrade to the Ryzen 7/9 CPUs and do some decent overclocking.

Honestly would have gone with this board if I didn't build my rig months earlier before this board was released

I still remember how mad I was at myself after watching the video of Buildzoid from Actually Hardcore Overclocking reviewed it LOL

Just a heads up. Next cycle of cpus from AMD will be AM5 which is a new socket and will come at end of year. Bought an x motherboard and have been waiting for x to have stock for months now. With poor availability of cpus and GPus, I should have likely waited for next generation since stock should improved in next 5 or 6 months.

This exactly. If you need the board right now, it's a good price; but you'd be better off saving your money and waiting for AM5.

That being said, Who knows how bad the availability for MOBOs and CPUs will be when they release it.

I ordered a x on Wednesday from shoprbc.com and got my tracking number today. Just checked and they have two x in stock if you're interested.

Edit: Never mind, they're selling the x $ higher than other retailers. The x was $ which is slightly inflated, but not as bad as the scalpers.

I had the same thought too. Either go big with the x and ignore AM5 or wait for AM5. I bought a PSU instead of this motherboard when this was on sale during Black Friday. Is AM5 confirmed for end of this year though? I kind of need something right now. Thanks!

MSI MAG X TOMAHAWK WIFI AM4 AMD X SATA 6Gb/s ATX AMD Motherboard

Pros: Seems to be a well manufactured motherboard with a very good feature set at a decent price. Several reviewers have indicated the thermals are really good. I haven't really pushed the system (yet), so it's too early for me to conclude either way. I've played MS Flight Simulator () a bit, though, and so far so good. There are 2 NVMe M.2 slots. I'm booting Windows 10 Pro from an NVMe M.2 Gen 3 SSD and wow, what a difference compared with a SATA HD. The included printed booklet is helpful but on the small side. I downloaded the PDF copy from MSI's website and printed out several pages so I could more easily see the location of the different pin headers and slots. Unfortunately, my eyesight isn't quite as good as it was 20 years ago.

Cons: Happy to report no major issues thus far. A few minor items could be improved. Placement of the system fan headers. Unfortunately, they are all at the bottom of the board and I stocked the @ vintage Antec Three Hundred case with 4 Corsair ML fans just in case. I ended up using the pump fan header for the top exhaust fan (no AIO). Since I didn't have a 4 pin Y splitter to also connect the rear exhaust fan, I ended up running a cable down to one of the system fan headers. Not the cleanest, but it'll do. The audio header is in the lower left corner. If you want to use the front headphone jack on the case (say, old audiophile headphones with an 1/4" to 1/8" adapter), make sure you have a long(er) cable to make the connection.

Overall Review: As has been my experience many times over the years, items purchased from Newegg were priced competitively, well packaged and shipped quickly. After using ASROCK motherboards on several previous PCs, this is my first MSI build. I've had the computer up and running for about a week. So far, I'm very pleased overall with how things have gone. Only had to slightly modify a 3 pin connection for the Power LED by lifting a small tab with hobby knife, removing a pin in the end slot and then inserting it into the middle slot. Other than that, installation of the motherboard and other components was very straightforward. For all the bashing Microsoft has endured for problems with Windows over the years -- much of it self-inflicted and deserved -- the Windows 10 Pro installation (USB) was really quick and uneventful. I haven't yet changed many UEFI settings. First I wanted to get the PC up and running, making sure it was stable, before moving on to the next steps. An AMD Ryzen 7 X is paired with Crucial Ballistix DDR4 (2 x 16 GB) memory, which is currently running at Eventually I'll change some UEFI settings to get the RAM running closer to spec. I don't have a Wi-Fi 6 router, so I'm not able to test wireless ax speeds. The wireless ac connection is excellent. MS Flight Simulator () downloaded and plays fine over wireless. The PC is in the same room as the router, which helps. Still, it's worth noting the Wi-Fi connection is working well even though I have not attached the antennas.
