Air Jordan XVI Ray Allen Miami Heat Gold PE
It looks like LeBron James wont be the only one rocking gold sneakers tonight, as Ray Allen will apparently suit up in this pair of the Air Jordan XVI in his first NBA game with the Miami Heat. Sure Ray might not get to enjoy the ring ceremony to the same extent as his teammates, but hes part of the family now and may well be in line to grab one come next year. Click through with us to check out a shot of Ray practicing in his Air Jordan XVI Gold PE (one that just might mean a Retro comeback is in the works for ), let us know what you think in the comments below, and be sure to look for them on-court tonight as Allen squares off against his former Boston Celtics squad for the first time.

Ray Allen Recalls Fond Memories Of Rocking Air Jordan 16
As one of Team Jordans founding members, Ray Allen has laced up some of the greatest Air Jordan player exclusives ever created throughout his stellar career. The NBA all-time leader in three-pointers made recently spoke to Nike.com about one of the most notable sneakers he ever wore, Air Jordan XVI.
Allen wore the Wilson Smith-designed signature during the season with the Milwaukee Bucks, putting multiple colorways on the floor as he led the Bucks to the full seven games of the Eastern Conference Finals against Philadelphia. He brought the shoe back in a white-based linen/red colorway during his stint with the Miami Heat, sparking intense interest among his teammates.
The last time I wore the XVIs was my last year with Miami. When I came into the locker room and everybody saw me with them on, they justeverybody put in their orders. Everybody was like, ‘I’ve got to get a pair.’ And then I had the green XVIs that I wore for Christmas. Once everybody saw those, they went crazy.

Air Jordan XVI (16) Retro Ray Allen Miami Heat PE
Tonight begins the /13 NBA Season and what better way to soak up the moment than with a fresh new pair of kicks.
Ray Allen is a part of the Miami Heat now and Jordan Brand has cooked up some nice PE’s using the Air Jordan XVI. The XVI hasn’t seen a Retro release other than the Countdown Pack so they are long overdue… cross your fingers.
The thing I enjoy most about NBA players wearing Retro Jordan’s on-court is that it shoves the ignorance back down the throats of those who think they know everything about hoop shoes. Yes, people can, will and have been rocking Retro Air Jordan’s on-court ever since they were 1st Retro-ed… I’d say they are basketball shoes over some lifestyle sneaker… only an overweight couch potato would disagree.
Ray Allen Recalls the Air Jordan XVI
When the Air Jordan XVI originally released in , Michael Jordan was already in the middle of his second retirement. The Air Jordan XVI, designed by Wilson Smith with a bit of guidance from Tinker Hatfield, was created with Jordan’s post basketball challenges in mind.
“We were inspired by the fact MJ was retiring for the second time and the thought that he was going from the basketball court to the boardroom,” explains Smith.
Design for the AJ XVI stemmed from refinement and learning from prior models. “We saw opportunities in the Air Jordan XV, where we could make this shoe more flexible, to work naturally with the foot,” says Smith.
From there, it was on Smith to bring the idea to life — and do so in a sharp, distinguished fashion. Per Wilson, the team wanted to incorporate visible technology — combination of Zoom Air cushioning in the forefoot and blow-molded, Nike Air cushioning in the heel — in the subtlest fashion possible. “It was the first shoe we wanted to bring visible Air back into at Jordan and did so in a way where it was really flowing with the design.”
Helping create the transformative design of the Air Jordan XVI, Hatfield offered the idea of a “Spat,” “Gaiter” or “Shroud.” The White/Midnight Navy edition utilized color in a way that allowed for what some would call a “Home” and “Away” look. The shrouded version offered a white-based home colorway, while the shroud-less look offered a midnight navy-dominated away option.
Now, nearly a decade and a half later, the design still stands as one of the most unique Air Jordans ever introduced. The Air Jordan XVI would go on to become one of the last models ever worn by MJ on the hardwood after his return in , but became a favorite to many of the brand’s family of basketball athletes.
Two-time champion and ten-time All-Star, Ray Allen is no stranger to the Air Jordan XVI and regularly wore player exclusive models of the shoe while playing in Milwaukee. Later, during his final playing years in Miami, Allen returned to the silhouette — again donning neck-breaking PEs. Here, he recalls his favorite moments in the shoe.
Every time I see that shoe — the Bucks PE — I always think about the uniform. I think about the time and place. It's just like music for me, when you think about where you were when you hear a song, you think about where you were when you first heard it. And that's kind of how I think about it with the XVIs.
With XVI, I just remember exactly where I was, and all these memories flood back from the games that I played in, to the players that I played with — that whole era.
Most notably, the last time I wore the XVIs was my last year with Miami. When I came into the locker room and everybody saw me with them on, they just…everybody put in their orders. Everybody was like, ‘I’ve got to get a pair.’ And then I had the green XVIs that I wore for Christmas. Once everybody saw those, they went crazy.
The Air Jordan XVI will launch globally on December 22 at select Jordan retail stores and on Jordan.com.

Remembering Ray Allen’s Player Edition Jordans
Russ Bengtson highlights the shoes that symbolize Allen’s phenomenal career as a Jordan athlete.
Ray Allen’s history with Jordan Brand is the history of Jordan Brand itself. He signed in at 22 years old — one of five players selected by Michael Jordan to wear the Jumpman in the NBA. He started off in team shoes and eventually graduated to wearing player edition Air Jordans after MJ retired in Allen would stay in Jordans for the rest of his career.
Nearly every significant achievement of Allen’s career happened while wearing player edition Jordans — his first playoff appearance, 10 All-Star Games and titles in and He started off in new models like the XIV and XV, and later wore a wide array of retros, including PE versions of each season’s flagship shoe and various XIs long coveted by collectors. He laced up a pair of black and gold Air Jordan XX8 SE PEs for the final game of his NBA career, game five of the NBA Finals.
With the exception of the white and green “Sugar Ray” XIIIs released in — to celebrate Allen breaking the NBA’s all-time three-point record — Allen’s player editions were created solely for him.
Here are a few of the player edition Air Jordans that best represent Allen’s phenomenal career as a Jordan athlete:
Air Jordan XVI PE
Allen wore the Air Jordan XVI PE back in , when he won the Three-Point Shootout and played in his second NBA All-Star Game. Made in white with green and purple accents, the highlights are the “RAY 34” personalization on the shroud and the chameleon-like purple and green on the toe-cap.
Air Jordan XX PE
As a member of the Seattle Supersonics, Allen wore the Air Jordan 20, designed to commemorate 20 years of Air Jordan. While Mark Smith’s lasering on the strap referred to moments in Michael Jordan’s career, the green and gold on the upper and pods was all Seattle.
Air Jordan IX and XI PEs
In Boston, Allen laced up some of his most coveted models, including the IX and the XI (he even once wore one of each during pre-game warmups). Some, like the XIII that released at retail, were just white and green, but the most memorable of them incorporated gold, foreshadowing the championship.
Air Jordan XX8 PE
The final, flagship Air Jordan that Allen wore during his NBA career was the XX8, released in while he was a member of the Miami Heat. The white, perforated shroud was offset by accents of carbon fiber, metallic gold and university red.
21 years after becoming a Jordan athlete — nearly half a lifetime ago — Allen is being inducted into the Basketball Hall of Fame. To commemorate the occasion, Jordan has produced a set of four PEs replicating those worn by Allen in different stages of his career, from his beginnings in Milwaukee to his championship years in Boston and Miami. Each model will have special Hall of Fame branding on the sockliner, in addition to the years he spent with the team on a tag inside of the tongue.
Four pairs of these celebratory Hall of Fame models have been made for Allen in his size.

He wanted radical changes in his life, and he got them. But, also with this, this strange memory is quite real about the past. He received it all at once, but from somewhere, he remembered something that he should not remember at all. There was a feeling that his life had been accreted to someone else's, lived before.
To a life that he had not lived until now.
