I often find myself reviewing the newest, best, and brightest of the tool world. Getting to try out new tools with best-in-class features and powers is one of my favorite things about what I do. But here’s the thing that football and woodworking have in common; you have nothing if you don’t have the basics.

Sure, you can have a woodshop jam-packed with all the sparkling machinery and power tools money can buy. Without a great set of basic tools, however, your abilities as a builder are extremely limited. That’s why I was excited to dive back to the basics and review the Milwaukee 56pc. Ratchet and Socket Set -- and trust me, Milwaukee put some serious thought into every aspect of this set for a truly unbeatable ratchet and socket set.

There are a few things I look for in a basic set of tools before I decide whether or not to purchase. Of course, my tools need to be versatile and long-lasting, but there’s more to it. When I’m picking out tools I feel like a (really big) kid in a candy store, picking out tools that I’m really excited about. Every time I pull a tool from my shop carts or tool boxes I want to get that ‘heck yeah, I get to play with this again’ feeling.

I really love the Milwaukee 56pc. Ratchet and Socket Set because of it’s super versatility. Designed with Four Flat™ edges, the sockets are anti-roll and wrench-friendly -- every handyman's dream. The 90-tooth design is durable and allows for a tiny 4-degree arc swing so I can work in tight places. This is great when I’m working on simple repairs both in and out of the workshop because I know that this set will get the job done every time.

I also love that the storage tray is completely removable and can be placed on a workbench or shop cart. I love having my own shop where I can spread out, and not having the lid to the carrying case constantly in my way makes this convenient for someone like me. If you don’t have your own shop, the storage tray pops right back in place for moving back to the garage.

When it comes to shelling out for great tools, I know that it’s sometimes a bit of a give and take. If you’re consistently working with wood, it’s probably worth spending more on the tools you use most frequently. Since you’re going to be using basic tools like ratchets and sockets all the time for almost any project, I like to make sure I have some of the best in the game, which is why I think the Milwaukee 56pc. Ratchet and Socket Set is a great Investment.

Like I said, I like using tools that make me feel excited and girlishly giddy every time I break them out for a project. Even though the Milwaukee 56pc. Ratchet and Socket Set comes across as a basic toolset, I love their convenience and the precision they bring to the table. Perfect for assembly, shop builds, and household fixes, this set is one I intend on keeping around for years and years.
