IMPORTANT: SHAKE WELL BEFORE USING
For maximum control and prevention of reinfestation, it is recommended that puppies be treated at 2, 3, 4, 6, 8, and 10 weeks of age. Lactating bitches should be treated 2-3 weeks after whelping. Adult dogs kept in heavily contaminated quarters may be treated at monthly intervals to prevent T.canis reinfestation. Administer one full teaspoon (5 mL) for each 10 pounds of body weight.
For the removal of large roundworms (ascarids) and hookworms. Administer one full teaspoon (5 mL) for each 10 pounds of body weight. It is not necessary to withhold food prior to treatment. If medication is to be dispensed, client can be advised that dogs usually find this wormer very palatable and will lick the dose from the bowl willingly. If there is a reluctance to accept the dose, mix in a small quantity of dog food to encourage consumption. The presence of large roundworms (ascarids) and hookworms should be confirmed by lab fecal examination.
It is recommended that dogs maintained under conditions of constant exposure to worm infestation should have a follow-up fecal exam within 2 to 4 weeks after first treatment.

Risk of resistance development? YES, but rather low in Ancylostoma caninum.
There are reports on resistance of Ancylostoma spp to pyrantel in dogs and horses, but so far it does not seem to be widespread.

Pyrantel is a broad-spectrum nematicide effective against important dog worms such as the roundwormToxocara canis and the hookwormsAncylostoma caninum, Ancylostoma braziliense and Uncinaria stenocephala. Pyrantel has no effect on tapeworms. It is a well-tolerated anthelmintic belonging to the chemical class of the tetrahydropyrimidines.
Pyrantel is a narrow-spectrum anthelmintic belonging to the chemical class of the tetrahydropyrimidines that was introduced in the 1960s (by PFIZER → ZOETIS). It is effective against roundworms and a few tapeworms (depending on the dose) in the gut, but not against those in other organs (e.g. the lungs, the skin, etc). It controls important dog worms such as the roundwormsToxocara canis and Toxascaris leonina, the hookwormsAncylostoma caninum and Uncinaria stenocephala. It is used a lot in pets and horses but rarely in livestock. There are dozens of products for pets with generic pyrantel. It is not used in agriculture.
Pyrantel as well as benzimidazoles (e.g.fenbendazole, febantel, albendazole, mebendazole, etc.) has no residual effect, i.e. it acts against the worms during a few hours after administration but is quickly metabolized and excreted. For this reason treatment must often be repeated for certain indications. This is in contrast with wormers containing macrocyclic lactones (e.g. milbemycin oxime, selamectin) that ensure efficacy against numerous roundworms during weeks after a single treatment.
