BJs Wholesale Club Reviews

Is there not a function for the customer to build a “favorites list or lists” for “quick and easy reorder” of very common items <toilet paper, paper towels, pet food, water, coffee, can goods, dry goods, medicines, supplements, razors, soaps, detergents, condiments, seasonings, etc, etc, etc> that both BJ’s and their customers know we buy over and over again. While the BJ’s app has the functionality to customize your specific order it’s time consuming to go through and add coupons individually <if you’re already a club member and we’re clearly moving past the days of scissors and paper coupon cutting; why aren’t these discounts included> and have to search for and rebuild your shopping list at every interval to reorder many of the items that we all know we repeat buy. In this day and age with the available technology, shouldn’t this be more streamlined to save the customer time and make this a better shopping experience. If this functionality exists and I’m not seeing it please let me know. From a loyal BJ’s customer who also occasionally shops the other warehouse stores, I’d like to see the functionality and app features streamlined to make it easier to buy!! < stars if this were a more streamlined experience>.

8 things you should always buy at BJ's

BJ's Wholesale Club may not be as big as rivals Costco and Sam's Club, but this warehouse store offers great bargains to shoppers looking to buy in bulk.

Primarily located in the eastern part of the U.S., BJ's offers in-store memberships starting at $55 a year. The retailer has a $10 online access membership if you only want to shop through their website. BJ's also routinely offers discounted memberships to new customers.

That membership fee allows BJ's to deliver markups lower than typical grocery chains, with prices often around 10% lower, Krazy Coupon Lady co-founder Joanie Demer tells CNBC Make It.

Still, depending on your circumstances, not everything sold there is going to be a great deal for you. Because BJ's often sells products in bulk, you need to be able to eat any perishable food before it goes bad, for example.

So which products offer the best bargains? To find out, Make It asked a few shopping experts what items are always on their "must-buy" lists when shopping at BJ's. Here are eight types of products they recommend.

Baby supplies

When her kids were in diapers, frugal shopping expert Lauren Greutman says the Berkley Jensen brand of diapers were a staple.

BJ's sells its members a count pack of size 3 Berkley Jensen ultra absorbent diapers for $, or about 14 cents per diaper. By contrast, Costco sells a count pack of size 3 Kirkland Signature Supreme diapers for $, which is about 22 cents per diaper.

But the deals on baby products go beyond just diapers, Tasia Boland, founder of the MyBJsWholesale.com blog, tells CNBC Make It. Wipes, bottles, and even car seats are affordably priced at BJ's.

"The BJ's brand definitely makes it cheap," Boland says. Plus BJ's has a % money-back guarantee, so if you try them and they don't work, you can take back the unused items.

Coffee

"Coffee is a really great deal at BJ's," Boland says. The store has sales on coffee frequently, too: About every other month, BJ's offers shoppers a $5 off coupon, Boland reports.

Starbucks coffee, in particular, is a bargain at BJ's, especially when you take the coupon into account. BJ's sells the Caffe Verona dark roast ground coffee in a ounce package for $ in-store, according to the website. That's roughly 50 cents per ounce without a coupon. But $5 off brings the cost down to 37 cents per ounce.

A ounce package of the same coffee at Walmart retails for $, about 57 cents per ounce. Meanwhile Target sells a ounce bag of the Verona coffee for $, or 63 cents per ounce.

Dairy products

When it comes to dairy, Greutman says she regularly shops at BJ's. "The big things I usually pick up there are butter and cheese," she says. Specifically, she says American cheese slices are typically a good deal. Individual yogurts are also on her list.

When CNBC Make It compared BJ's and Costco products last month, we found BJ's brand of butter and shredded mozzarella cheese was significantly cheaper than Costco's.

However, when it comes to affordable dairy items, milk is not on the list. "Milk is actually more expensive at BJ's than it is at Aldi, so I typically don't buy milk at BJ's," Greutman says.

Fresh meat

Not only does BJ's generally offer affordable prices on fresh meat, but each store has a butcher on the premises, which can lead to huge savings, Boland says. That's because, if you ask, one of BJ's butchers will repackage your meat into smaller quantities for free. So you still get the wholesale club price without having to store 25 pounds of ground beef in your freezer.

When CNBC Make It compared prices on 93% lean ground beef, BJ's priced in at $ for a 4-pound package, or about $ per pound, according to prices listed online for in-store pickup. This was a lot cheaper than Walmart, which offered a similar lean ground beef for $ per pound.

Laundry detergent

BJ's is also great for laundry supplies, Boland says, namely detergent. The retailer sells its ounce Berkley Jensen Ultra liquid laundry detergent, which is comparable to the Tide brand, for $

In contrast, Costco sells its Tide-comparable product, a ounce Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean Refreshing laundry detergent, for $, according to prices posted online. In this case, Costco ends up being 9 cents an ounce, while BJ's is about 8 cents.

And when it comes to quality, Boland says the BJ's brand works fine for the price. "The scent doesn't stay as long as Tide does, but as far as the cleaning aspect, it works just as well," she says.

The name-brand Tide detergent retails for $ at BJ's for a ounce container.

Propane

Summer grilling season is just around the corner. That means you may need to fill up your propane tank and BJ's offers a good deal, according to Boland. At the BJ's near her in Henrietta, New York, it's about $ to refill a tank. You can buy the tank for about $

Closer to New York City, it costs about $ for members to refill a tank at the BJ's in North Bergen, New Jersey, according to a sales associate CNBC Make It spoke with. That's cheaper than the nearby Home Depot, which charges around $19, according to a store sales associate.

Paper products

Disposable paper products, including paper plates and cups, are also a good buy at BJ's, according to Boland. BJ's has a count package of Berkley Jensen paper plates for $ and a count package of Berkley Jensen ounce cups that can be used for hot or cold drinks for $

Toilet paper, paper towels and tissues are also cheaper at BJ's, Boland says. "BJ's has their own brand and I love the quality," she says. In , the store's Berkley Jensen Ultra Soft toilet paper won top marks in a Good Housekeeping test.

Currently, Costco's sells a count package of its Kirkland Ultra Soft toilet paper for $ Meanwhile BJ's sells a similar package of its Berkley Jensen brand toilet paper for $

But she says if you're a couponer, keep in mind you may be able to score even better deals at other retailers. However, it comes down to, "how much work do you want to put in to get that cheaper toilet paper or do you just want to go and grab it off the shelf?" Boland asks. If you don't want to put in the effort to couponing, BJ's is still a bargain.

Spices and baking supplies

Like with Costco, spices and baking supplies are a good buy at BJ's, in large part because the bulk quantities are less likely to go bad before you use them up. But between the two retailers, BJ's edged out Costco on price when CNBC Make It evaluated the two stores.

For example, a pound bag of name-brand sugar was $ at Costco, while a similar package of sugar was just $ at BJ's. Boland finds that BJ's organic cane sugar is also a good deal, as well as BJ's prices on Gold Medal flour.

I was in BJ's twice in a month and the line to check out was all the way around the back of the warehouse. That’s just shows they don’t care about their customers. I have never seen anything like this except at Christmas in Kohl’s. I also am a member of Costco and never ever waited 20 minutes in a line. Even in their return line is Buick. I have no desire to ever go back to bjs again. I will stick with Costco

BJ's charged my credit card without my authorization for my yearly membership renewal. Not only, they charged one month earlier than the renewal due date. Early this year BJ's was offering a Mastercard promotion. I signed for the new card, but never authorized to use it for my membership renewal. They acted on my behalf without my authorization. "CUSTOMERS OF BJ'S PLEASE BE AWARE OF THIS ". The membership renewal was 7/31/, they charged on 7/01/ Since, I never used this credit card, and never received a paper statement, I got charged a $ late fee. I called and complained, and got all these reversed, but please be aware of this illegal practice.

On June 10, , I placed an order online for the Berkley Jensen Rowley 9PC Aluminum Sling Dining Set. The set was available online and I was charged fully for the item. Two days later I received a call from CEVA Logistics which is the company Bj's used for my delivery requesting me to schedule a date for the delivery and I did. I schedule the delivery for June 19, I had planned a celebration for father's day and for my son's graduation and I ended up canceling the celebration because someone lost the item and they can't locate it. I called CEVA Logistics and they stated that the item was a no show, then I called Bj's Care support and they don't know what happened.

I explained my frustration and all they can say is "I will look into the issues and I will give you a call within 72 hours". I've been told the same thing about 10 times. I've been calling them every day for the past two weeks and I don't see a resolution in the near future. Yesterday I called Ceva Logistics once again and that stated they located the item but can't be delivered it to me because someone at bj's requested a return. I called Bj's Care support to find out and no one there seems to have an answer. Every time I called I speak to someone new. I have to explain myself every time I called. I have requested to speak to a manager and for some odd reason they never available and I'm told they would call me within 24 hours. At this point, I feel robbed. It's been 20 days of stress and high blood pressure. I don't have the item or my money back. This has been the worst nightmare of my whole life. Stay away from the club.

I was tricked into joining the business club with a product it said I could buy online. After joining and paying the membership fee you couldn't buy the product online but had to go to a store. There are no stores close to me. I never ordered anything and now it is time for automatic renewal of membership. I followed the website's directions on opting out of renewal or canceling membership. You cannot do it online and when I tried to opt out by phone it conveniently says there is an issue. The automated phone didn't have any problems with me typing in my membership number or getting to the right place to opt out but it will not let me do it. This place sucks! STAY AWAY!

This is 1 of my absolute go to stores. They sell almost everything in bulk and yes you need to be a member, however they often have trial memberships that you can try out for days or you are able to have one authorized user on your account. They have paper coupons and digital coupons. You're able to use store coupons with manufacturing coupons, which then you can upload your receipt onto any qualifying apps to save even more $. I find their prices very reasonable and the membership pays for itself in my opinion. You just have to go and see for yourself because this paragraph could easily become a book. Have a great day everyone.

Placed an order for a smart tv for pick up, the order was approved and charged and then reversed and canceled 3 times! The first 2 times a customer service representative told me it was because of discrepancies on my billing address, the last time and when I was just minutes to pick up got canceled because it was out of stock! A very disappointing first buyer experience at BJ’s! BTW still waiting for a manager to call me for a solution on this matter! So frustrating???

This is the second time in two months since purchasing packaged food with bad packaging allowing sealed-in foods to be exposed to the environment. On this instance, I purchased Jack Daniels Seasoned Fully Cooked Pulled Port. Boxed item includes two sealed portioned pouches. One of the two was sealed correctly. The other pouch's seal was through their product, ie. not sealed. The food near the opened pouch was discolored white. Cost of the item at the BJ's Parkland, Florida location was $ In this case trusting food purchased from BJ's Parkland could be a fatal decision.

When returning the item, Manager on Duty Ivan seemed to cop an attitude suggesting that he sees/hears these complaints quite often. His only suggestion was to refund the item or talk to store manager, Anthony **, when he returns sometime next week. When I asked Ivan whether it was possible that BJ's costs are lower than purchasing same item at grocery stores due to BJ's purchasing defective stock from leading manufacturers, Ivan neither agreed nor denied the statement. Considering this being my second time with two different products, and today's manager on duty somewhat agreeing, there seems to be a problem that will affect the health and well being of other customers, and should be reported to health officials. What good is buying wholesale if you could die doing it.

Horrible experience

I ordered and paid for tires which the scheduling system allowed me to book an appointment to have the tires installed. I showed up a little early got checked in, left the car and did some shopping. I received a call asking that I call back. Tried to call the Auto center but ended up in an phone loop. Got back to the Auto center only to find out the tires were not at the store. So, some lessons:

> Why is the Auto center understaffed? Why not have a CS representative in the Auto Center to handle calls, check inventory, etc.?
> Why was I able to schedule the mounting appointment before the tires were in?
> Why was I checked in if the tires were not available?
> Why is the phone system so difficult to get through?
> Why do you use FedEx when their service is horrible. Heard this from many businesses (not just BJs) as well as my and others' personnel experience. Is saving a couple of dollars worth a slip in customer satisfaction?

The staff in the Auto Center is overworked which means they are understaffed. This issue is beyond their ability and control. Is BJs sincere in being in the Tire business? If so, you need to act like it. I wasted my afternoon trusting BJs would act like a professional organization. I was wrong.

I filed a complaint with the store manager who didn't write anything down and I left with no sense of satisfaction.

I am mortified that you take customers for granted. You treat my time like it is of no value.

The IT group responsible for the online ordering and scheduling ought to be a customer to understand the holes in the system.

This GM for the Northborough, MA store needs to either be removed or retrained. Totally unacceptable.

I recently ordered the large deli&#;

I recently ordered the large deli sandwiches for a party. When they arrived I noticed that there was more bread than lunch meat and cheese. The guests were literally pulling the bread off of the top of the sandwich. Then to top it off I am grateful they put the lettuce and tomato separate, however instead of any form of lettuce they gave me kale!!! Have you ever tried to eat raw kale on a sandwich. It was terrible Will not be ordering the sandwiches again unless I tell them hold the lettuce. Plus there were no condiments (i.e. mayo, mustard, etc.)

Never ever again,.

Bad customer service !!!

Bad customer service !!!! I called them two weeks ago about returning a water cooler since it was defective. The agent said I would be contacted in three days and a pickup would be arranged. Never happened!!! No followup. Horrible customer service and communication among workers!!! Uneven bought a warranty from them. Don't deal with this company !!!

I purchased a TV online at BJ&#;S and so far it been a nightmare.

I purchased a TV online at BJ&#;S and so far it had been the worst experience I have ever had with a business. I was promised 3 day delivery which never occurred.
The shipping company CEVA is also the worst company to deal with they bounce you around from voice prompt to voice prompt and then disconnect you while your waiting for customer service.
I proceeded to try and resolve the issue with my local BJ&#;s which was also less than helpful ,was kept waiting on the phone 32 minutes to be told by the manager that he was not going to assist me in anyway and transferred me to customer service who stated he would mark it urgent with the shipping company and would get back to me.
So as it stands I paid for a TV that has not been delivered, and no idea as to when it will be delivered. The delivery company who refuses to answer their phone to provide a update as to when the TV will be delivered. A customer service that should be changed customer no service.
After this ordeal I am canceling my order, my membership and will just go to Costco who treats their customers with respect.
Take my advise go to Costco it&#;s worth the drive.

Received expired food from my order

I ordered 6 boxes of cookies. Received the item to find out that all 6 boxes of cookies expired 3 weeks ago. I called the company and they didn&#;t do anything to replace the item. All they offered was to escalate to a team that would reach out within 72 hours to advise if they will replace item. I even sent pictures. That is pretty sad that they send me expired food and won&#;t immediately replace it.

HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE AND RETURN PROCESS

Ordered four boxes of chocolate candy bars on June 4, They were delivered completely melted and ruined. Requested a refund. I had to contact them three different times and got no resolution except a refund for one box on June 22nd, although it was approved for all four.

Contacted them again today, July 19, as I hadn't received my refund yet. I was told they would have to look into it and send a follow-up email in hours. I expressed my frustrations and told them I would never purchase from their company again. I was told that I ONLY contacted them on June 10, 14 & 22nd and that I should have contacted them again sooner. Worst customer service experience I have ever had, I don't recommend anyone purchase from this company.

Worst experience ever

Worst experience ever. Went to a register not self check out got to the exit line gave my receipt to sale rep Linda she have me stand in line so she can count every single items on my cart she even have the nerve to make me read her barcode so she can see if that was the item then she count everything in my count have me lift thing to make sure she check each on the receipt that I have the right number of item . It's funny because I observe the line before my turn and she did none of that to the white customers. Can't believe she had me stand that long

This company is trash

This company is trash. If you are a vendor you can guarantee bad customer feedback.

They will waste your customers time and provide no communication.

I have called them at least 10 times. Wait on hold for over an hour just to be lied too about my order.

When you schedule the order it won&#;t arrive. Then when you check the tracking it says you need to reschedule.

After doing this a couple of times I just gave up. 2nd time no call no show.

I took time off work to make sure I was home for the delivery both times.

Ceva Logistics is the worst delivery company I have ever seen.

The whole situation frustrated me so much I decided I don't even want the item and do not want to do business with the company I order the product from every again. BJs Wholesale.

What a nightmare. Never again!!!

Thank you BJs customer service .&#;

Thank you BJs customer service ..We purchased the Berkley and Jenson 12x10 Gazebo..After putting it up the canopy was crooked..Back side would not pull down and could not align curtains to the pole..I contacted BJs customer service, sent pictures if the issue and within 2 weeks we had all new replacement parts.. Husband reinstalled and now our gazebo looks beautiful in our yard. Really appreciate the customer support.

There is NO value here..

There is NO value here products than seem like good deals are on discontinued or not generally available items no deal on groceries I purchased an appliance from here the next day was over $20 less at a wally world same brand and all AND it had been on sale at BJ's I have a business membership and I have only really saved 20 on propane SMH total waste of my money and their potential

Unhappy customer

I wish there was a ZERO stars rating&#;

I wish there was a ZERO stars rating for your # Customer Care department. I purchased 2 fire pits, one on 5/14 and another on 5/ Two days later I received a flyer and the fire pit price reduced from to so I called Customer Care since they were orders placed online. The first representative took the information and told me that a price adjustment of the $70 + tax for both orders was submitted and I should be receiving the credit shortly. I called yesterday since it had been 3 weeks with no refund. The second rep told me my case stated, "customer needs to go to the club and see a manager for the price adjustment since it was an online order picked up in store". He told me that the manager would be able to look up the case# and issue the refund. First of all, where was that communication back to the customer? I then went to the club yesterday and the manager told me they have no way to look up case numbers and I needed proof of the price since the price was currently back to So I AGAIN call Customer Care while at the Club and got the RUDIST representative I have EVER talked to. She told me it had been over 7 days and I could not get a price adjustment. I had already explained the entire story that I was told by the first representative within the 7-day grace period and she says, "oh well she made a mistake but I am not giving you $70 back." She honestly should be fired for her rude attitude. I advise that BJs hire customer service staff that actually "care" about their customers and give accurate information to them. I emailed this note to Customer Care asking for a manager to review and just got another generic email back about price adjustments are only done within 7 days. Honestly this email was not even read; they just pushed a button and spit out the generic &#;price adjustment&#; statement. I HAVE NEVER HAD WORSE CUSTOMER SERVICE ANYWHERE AND WILL NOT BE RENEWING MY MEMBERSHIP AT THE END OF THIS MONTH. SWITCH TO COSTCOs.

[Note: This review is for the Customer Care # staff. I have to say that the manager, Kathy, at the Derby CT club was very sympathetic and helpful.]

First of I want to say if I could give&#;

First of I want to say if I could give a 0 star I would. I ordered a tv from BJ&#;s April 30th and still never got a the tv. I called over and over and Bj&#;s could not tell me anything. Their delivery company is Ceva Logistics and they told me that I would have to have contact Ceva myself. I waited sometime and called Bj&#;s again to just cancel my order, they cancelled my order but never refunded my money because they had to receive the tv back from Ceva first. Which is stupid because that has nothing to do with me and at this point this is stealing. I then called Ceva again and they said Bj&#;s never even contacted them about canceling the order or anything. I will never order from BJ&#;s online ever again. 41 days later and I still have not been refunded my money.

Due to the shortage of 3" tabs chlorine&#;

Due to the shortage of 3" tabs chlorine for pools, I was in a panic. Portsmouth,NH BJ's was out of stock. Customer Service recommended I check in daily for updates on availability. really didn't think more would come in due to the shortage in USA. Price gouging was absolutely going to happen. Not with BJ's! Called this a.m. they had some, I was there in 20 Minutes to pickup. These people are amazing. They go out of their way to assist the customer. Kudo's Portsmouth,NH !!

Never work or shop here.

Working and shopping at this company was the absolute worst experience in my life. No matter where you are, you can count of BJ's managers to be completely worthless (in every sense of the word!). In the store I worked/shopped at, the managers made bad decision after bad decision, never once making a reasonable choice. Go to Sam's club if you want a good company to do business with.

They sell almost everything in bulk and yes you need to be a member, however they often have trial memberships that you can try out for 30-90 days or you are able to have one authorized user on your account.

I purchased an Emerson 7.0 cubic feet upright freezer online for delivery. Delivery was fast, but the freezer had dents in 3 different places. Asked for replacement or refund and nearly two weeks lately, I am still waiting for a pick up of the product and refund because they never got back to me on a replacement.

Cost of the item at the BJ's Parkland, Florida location was $10.99. In this case trusting food purchased from BJ's Parkland could be a fatal decision.

"The work can be somewhat bleak, but there is certainly a sense that you have control over how your shift will turn out. Management tend to interfere rather than help, but this job more than any other I feel you get what you put into it."

"BJ's Wholesale Club is a large company with a variety of roles. They are well positioned for success, especially during times of instability in the economy. They provide value to their Members, which will never go out of style. The people who work there are some of the nicest and most talented in the retail industry."

Field Sales Representative

"I have worked for BJ's for only a few months. I was hired on to be a Field Sales Rep. But due to the Covid pandemic, I have not had the chance to actually hit the field. I am currently telemarketing day in and day out. Although I am grateful for the opportunity, there is just no way I can make the kind of money I am use to and desire. All in all, the company is wonderful to their employees, but the compensation is just not there."

"I've worked for Bjs Restaurant for 6 years and it was a great experience. The fast pace environment was something I fell in love with. There are many opportunities to move up and further your career there as well. The techniques they teach you within sales is something that you can carry on into your next jobs. The gold standard customer service really helps you stand out against ant competitors."

"I worked at BJ's for almost a decade. It is a wonderful place to gain experience and work cross-functionally to gain insight on various departments. However, the 'more with less' corporate mentality makes it extremely difficult to successfully meet the consistently high standards, and executives are more frequently recruited from the outside, rather than promoted from the inside. Work/life balance and overall company morale leave something to be desired. Decent compensation and bonus structure. Good benefits and PTO."

"I've worked for BJ's restaurant for the last 3 years. I've moved up from Host all the way to Lead Server Trainer in the last 3 years. Management can be a little condescending at times, but for the most part, they are there for the team."

"I've worked there 6 years and have made my way to LP Manager. The only gripe is the poor raises. Managers only get an annual raise and my current one for a good review was less than 1k a year, around 40 cents. While employees can get biannual raises at 65 cents per review. There are employees and just employees that make more than me that have for only a couple more years just because of that fact."

"Sometimes I wished I never knew the back offices and break rooms or where the loading docks were. However, the store management and customers were great to work with. I met my goals every month with creative techniques and was well awarded for my efforts. It was fun while I was employed there. I moved to an area that didn't have a store within miles."
