Dillon Beach, Marin County’s hidden gem.

COASTAL KITCHEN IS NOW OPEN FOR DINE IN SERVICE (FRI-SUN 12-7PM) OR TAKE OUT

Dillon Beach Resort sits on 55 coastal acres on the Marin-Sonoma County Line, between the mouth of Tomales and the entrance to Bodega Bay. Views of the magnificent Point Reyes National Seashore at Tomales Point can be enjoyed from any vantage point on the property, which features almost a mile of private beach that we work to preserve and protect.

The historic inn was built in the late 1800s and has only changed hands three times in over 130 years - most recently into the care of a small group of Marin County families dedicated to breathing new life and love into this special place to eat, play + stay.

Join us for a meal at Dillon Beach Coastal Kitchen, shop a curated selection of local wares at the General Store, rent surf boards and other adventure aids at our Surf Shack, or do it all & call Dillon Beach home for a while in one of our tiny homes or ocean view cabins.

“Great time!” What an incredible home, and I mean home. It felt like you walked into your own home, comfortable, great kitchen for the family feast, with a dining room table that all 10 of us could enjoy! Weather could of been better but hot tub was a treat! Absolutely a great place to stay...manager where super helpful! Do it!!

“Sea Breeze in the Fog” No problem with the fog, but a little more sun would have been nice. Would have liked a view, but overall, very nice. TV only worked in a bedroom/den, so of no value when that room also served as a bedroom. This should be fixed to work in the living room area. Good parking. Very clean and served our sixsome nicely!

Price per night from

$748

“Wonderful ocean view!” This is such an amazing ocean view rental. It's cozy and cabin-y and comfy! Everything you could possibly need is available. Great for a couple or small family getaway. The property management folks are awesome!! We will go again!

“SLOW DOWN” Our lives are so busy. This home was the perfect place to relax, take deep breaths and focus on family. There were 11 of us (7 adults and 4 kids) and we did not feel crowded. The big table enabled us to play cards at on end and board games at the other end.

Price per night from

$1,234

“Castle on the Cliff” The modest entrance to Sea Glass belies the beauty within! This beautiful home comes with a well appointed kitchen and just about every creature comfort you can imagine... including a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean and Dillon Beach.

Price per night from

$2,361

“2013 Preschool Staff Retreat” My 9 co-workers and I had a GREAT time at this rental for our two-night staff retreat. It was very nicely updated and roomy. Our only complaint is that the stove/oven seemed to take FOREVER to cook any meal that we prepared. Just schedule plenty of time for meal preperation and you should be just fine ;-)

Price per night from

“Great view” The view and pool table are great. The kitchen ware is super. The pull out beds are funky. The hot tub only worked once. The nice guy came out, but to no avail. Not using th hot tub was disappointing for all.

About Dillon Beach, California

Founded in 1858, Dillon has rapidly become a popular tourist spot thanks to its golden sand and epic, surfer-friendly waves.

There's a public access beach and a private beach resort that you can visit (for a small fee). Both are glorious and great spots to spend your day.

The private beach is the only one in California, so it's worth checking it out to see what makes it so great.

The town itself is quaint and cozy. It has a lovely small-town charm. Amenities include a cafe, general store and surf shop. Simplicity is the name of the game here, so if you're looking for an exciting adventure, we'd say look elsewhere.

Embrace the laid-back lifestyle of Dillon Beach and escape from the pressures of daily life for a few days. You won’t regret it!

What to do

You have to visit the beaches in Dillon. The soft, golden sand is a great place for kids and adults alike to spend the day merrily building sandcastles or catching up on a good book.

The water is a little chilly, so maybe bring a wetsuit. There's hardly any undertow, so it's a great place for less confident swimmers.

Surfers should come here and try to catch some waves. You could learn how to surf from an instructor too, just in case you need a refresher.

When you're not in the water, why not go and explore the tide pools? You're bound to find some exciting critters in there!

If you're thinking about camping for a night or two, head to Lawson's Landing – it's the main camping spot at Dillon Beach and is right on the sand. It's dog-friendly, so your pet can come along too!

Top Dillon Beach, California travel tips

We'd say drive to Dillon Beach so you can explore everything there is to see.

If you have a surfboard, bring it with you. But don't worry if not. There's a shop you can rent equipment from in town, and they'll give you great advice about the best times to head out on the waves.

For a secluded beach vacation with a bit of surfing excitement thrown in, head to Dillon Beach. It's a great spot that the whole family will enjoy.

Vadim had them large, plump and soft, and his tongue immediately went on the attack. I put my hands on his shoulders, pushing him away, then tried to wrap the robe, then just howled.
