Dr. Prochoda chose to become a doctor in order to have a meaningful career. He loves helping people and improving their lives. Plus, medicine integrates his passions for science, wellness, health, empathy, and making a difference in the lives of others.

When he’s not working, Dr. Prochoda likes to go mountain biking, road cycling, hiking, and snowshoeing. You also might meet him out in the community volunteering at Rocky Mountain National Park or helping at an astronomy outreach program.

He also cares for his own wellness by practicing yoga and cooking healthy meals.

Born and raised in Loveland, Bernhardt grew up visiting Estes Park. He was an undergrad at CU-Boulder, and then pursued four years at Pacific University College of Optometry in Portland, Ore. His family lives in Loveland, and he has a grandfather in Drake, and his family maintains a cabin in Loveland Heights.

Before relocating to Estes Park, Bernhardt was a student. Past jobs include working at the family business of the Quick Print Shop in Loveland, at a winery, a Boulder daycare and a Greek restaurant.

His hobbies include competing in triathlons, fund-raiser road races and “mud runs,” playing softball, ultimate frisbee, tennis and hiking. He is looking forward to working with the Lions Club and Rotary.

When Dr. Amber Busche was in the third grade, she had to get glasses. It was a moment that changed her life.

“It was a game-changer,” Busche said. “I was thinking ‘That doctor was pretty cool because now I can see.’”

It took years of study and work to become an optometrist. An Iowa native, Busche earned her Bachelor of Science degree at the University of Northern Iowa. She spent four years earning her Doctor of Optometry degree at Southern College of Optometry in Memphis, Tenn.

She not only fits people for contacts and glasses. “Our field of study has evolved where we can manage and treat conditions like glaucoma, macular degeneration, eye infections and eye injuries.”

Busche has lived in Colorado for the past nine years. She sold her part of a practice in Greeley to buy a practice in Estes Park from Dr. Longley Parker.

Aspen Eyecare is located at 600 S. St. Vrain Ave., Suite 5. Bushe’s business motto is “simply elevated vision.” She said, “Whether it’s your vision seeing or your vision for life, we want to help.”

One of Busche’s favorite aspects of running her own business is picking out the glasses frames she sells to her patients.

“I hand-select all of the frames that we have,” Busche commented. “I meet with all of the vendors. I have a huge passion for the art of eyewear. Vendors come and they spread out hundreds of pairs of glasses.”

Busche likes to visualize who might buy a particular pair.

“I just got some chunky green ones in,” she commented. “I picture a gentleman who is really artistic, but I might have a 94-year-old lady who comes in and says ‘I love these.’ You wear glasses to see your world the best you can. Also, other people are looking at you and your glasses are in the middle of your face. Other people see them. It needs to be good both ways.”

Busche started running Aspen Eyecare in August of 2019. She and her husband, Aaron bought a house in Estes Park and moved to town in December of 2019. Her husband works the front desk with her.

“We decided we really wanted to live in the mountains,” Busche noted. “We like to hike for fun. We have two dogs, so we can’t hike in the park. We love spending time driving through the park with them hanging their heads out the window. When it’s just the two of us, we love to hike around Lily Lake and Bear Lake.

Busche said she enjoys living in Estes Park.  She describes the residents as “incredible in a loving but tell-you-the truth kind of way.”

At the beginning of her new practice, her answering machine did not let people leave a voicemail. Someone stopped by the Aspen Eyecare office to tell her.

“In a big city,” she said,” they would just call someone else. In Estes Park, people go out of their way to help you out.”
