Used car buying guide

So, you’ve got a gaggle of kids who need to get dropped off at school, to soccer practice, ballet, and beyond—all with the right gear in tow. Juggling passengers and cargo doesn’t have to be difficult. That’s why Kia made the Sedona minivan, a versatile people carrier that has high safety ratings, spacious seating, and plenty of versatile cargo space. This  Kia Sedona review from the team at Andy Mohr Kia will tell you even more about what this van can bring to your family.

Kia Sedona Interior  Kia Sedona interior

The Sedona can seat seven to eight passengers, depending on whether you choose to add a second-row center seat insert. Stain-resistant cloth upholstery is standard, and can stand up to muddy shoes, sticky fingers, and spills that are bound to happen on your trips around Plainfield, Indianapolis, and Avon.

The second row offers available lounge seats, which can recline completely, and come with footrests for a supremely comfortable ride—perfect for bringing the little ones on a long road trip.  If you’d like to add even more luxury to the van, there’s plenty of features to choose from, including leather upholstery, 8-way power adjustable front seats, heated front and second-row seats, and even a heated steering wheel.

Standard features in the cabin include a 5-inch touchscreen display with Bluetooth® connectivity and satellite radio, plus a rearview camera for simple and safe reversing, even in a crowded parking lot. Some unique offerings in the vehicle include an available, removable cargo-area flashlight and a cooled glove box.

Sedona Interior Measurements  Kia Sedona

Front headroom measures inches, and legroom is inches. In the second row, there’s inches of headroom and a comfortable inches of legroom, which is pretty massive.

Need to bring along the kids’ backpacks, sports equipment, and more? Behind the third row, there’s ft3 of cargo space. Fold that row forward, and there’s ft3 of cargo space behind the second row. The second row, too, can be folded upright to create a total of ft3 of cargo capacity. For extra convenience, you can add the available hands-free power liftgate.

Kia Sedona Power and Performance

The Sedona’s strong L V6 engine generates horsepower and lb-ft of torque. A 6-speed automatic transmission comes standard, and when properly equipped, this van can tow up to 3, pounds.

The minivan’s ride quality is smooth and comfortable, so if the baby is snoozing in the back seat, you don’t have to worry about road bumps disturbing the peace of the cabin. The van is also surprisingly agile and easy to maneuver, despite its size, and front-wheel drive is standard.

Want to see if the Sedona is the right fit for you and your family? Contact Andy Mohr Kia to schedule a test drive, and bring the kids along to test out the comfort of the seats as you hit the streets of Plainfield, Indianapolis, and Avon.

Kia Sedona Expert Review

Stefan Ogbac

The Kia Sedona is unchanged except for the some exterior color updates. Silky Silver replaces Bright Silver and Celestial Blue replaces Midnight Sapphire. Beachwood Pearl has been discontinued.

The Kia Sedona is a front-drive minivan with seating for up to eight passengers and is available in five trim levels.

Sedona L: The base Sedona L comes with inch alloy wheels, cloth upholstery, a sliding second row, a inch touchscreen, a four-speaker audio system, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB port, keyless entry, and a rearview camera.

Sedona LX: Moving up to the LX trim adds power-folding side mirrors, power sliding doors, eight passenger seating, eight-way power adjustable front seats, a inch multi-information display, and six-speaker audio system.

Sedona EX: Mid-level EX models adds inch alloy wheels, fog lights, silver roof rails, leather upholstery, heated front seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, tri-zone climate control, a larger inch touchscreen, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay integration, additional USB ports, keyless start, and front and rear parking sensors.

Sedona SX: The second highest trim adds LED taillights, a power-operated passenger seat, ventilated front seats, an Infinity premium audio system, a drive mode selector, heated second row seats, an inch touchscreen, navigation, and blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert.

Sedona SXL: As the most luxurious variant of the Sedona, the SXL trim adds HID headlights, inch alloy wheels, a mesh grille, a heated steering wheel, and a degree view camera system. Nappa leather upholstery, dual sunroofs, and second-row captain's chairs are optional only on the SXL.

The Sedona is powered exclusively by a liter V-6 with hp and lb-ft of torque paired to a six-speed automatic transmission. EPA fuel economy ratings are 18/24 mpg city/highway for the L, LX and EX trims. The SX trim is the most efficient at 18/25 mpg while the range-topping SXL grade is the least efficient at 17/22 mpg.

In NHTSA testing, the Sedona received a five-star overall rating (out of a possible five stars). The IIHS has yet to fully test the Sedona but the model received a Good score on five crashworthiness tests, and in the headlights test, the model received a Poor rating (Good is the highest possible score). In the front crash prevention test, the Sedona received a Superior rating after it avoided and mph collisions (Superior is the highest rating for the front crash prevention test). As a result, the Sedona received the Top Safety Pick award from the IIHS.

Active safety and driver assistance features are available on the LX trim and higher and it includes lane departure warning, forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, blind spot warning and rear cross-traffic alert.

The Kia Cadenza has cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, cubic feet behind the second row, and cubic feet behind the front seats. When properly equipped, the Sedona can tow up to 3, pounds.

In a First Test, we said it offers a comfortable ride and respectable handling for its size. The second row, especially with the optional captain's chairs, offer high levels of comfort. However, the third row is on the tight side, particularly with the sunroof that eats into passenger head room. There's also a lack of folding second row seat stowage, which means the Sedona isn't as practical as rivals such as the Chrysler Pacifica.

In a comparison test that also included the Toyota Sienna, Honda Odyssey, Nissan Quest, and the recently discontinued Chrysler Town & Country, the Kia Sedona won because of its combination of style, comfort, and respectable driving dynamics. Its interior was also the best of the bunch with high quality materials all around, Nappa leather upholstery, and a comfortable second row.

The optional second-row captain's chairs on the Sedona were inspired by long haul first class seats on airplanes.

Your family’s maybe gotten a little bigger over the last few years and you need something that fits everyone or maybe you just need the extra space to carry all the equipment that comes with your kids after school activities. It’s not enough to just have a big car though, you also need something that’s safe and reliable to give you the peace of mind you need.

Is there such a car out there though? One that has the space, reliability, and safety you’re looking for? The Kia Sedona certainly hits those checkmarks while also providing a fun and entertaining driving experience. What exactly sets it apart from the competition though?

Kia Sedona Features and Specs

The Kia Sedona is an efficient and reliable vehicle, especially with its combined 20 mpg meaning there’s plenty of time to run around between school, after-school events, errands, and jobs before you need to stop back in to top off the tank. It also features emergency braking assist and other safety features to keep you safe on the roads. Satellite radio and USB external media control let you turn your car into a mobile party hotspot as well. With a large cabin, the Kia Sedona also provides more than enough space for your family with an available 7 or 8 seat configurations. All those seats still leave plenty of room for the legs with inches of leg room in the front and inches in the back. The Sedona also has cu-ft of maximum cargo space available which is more than enough space to handle the daily demands of a family.

Kia Sedona

A competitor in the minivan market since the s, Kia soldiers on with its latest, third-generation Sedona. Last redesigned for the model year, the Sedona shows no significant change for

Other minivan makers have modified their offerings in recent years to reflect a new age of family transportation. Kia&#;s Sedona sticks closer to the past.

Five Sedona trim levels are available: L, LX, EX, SX, and SX Limited trim levels. In each Sedona, a liter V6 develops horsepower and pound-feet of torque. All versions use a somewhat antiquated 6-speed automatic transmission, mating with front-wheel drive. In the interest of fuel economy, most automakers have moved to transmissions with a greater number of gear ratios. Gas mileage for the Sedona scores right around average for the minivan class.

Compared to some minivans that have been redesigned lately, Kia&#;s version tends to lean toward the old-fashioned, if not antiquated, end of the spectrum. Such competitors as the Honda Odyssey, Toyota Sienna, and Chrysler Pacifica tend to stand taller in terms of contemporary features and passenger conveniences. Still, Kia&#;s people-carrier gets the nod in overall value, priced at a more accessible value than most of its rivals.

Crash-test ratings have been quite good, but advanced safety features are limited to higher trim levels or extra-cost option packages.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration awarded the Sedona a five-star rating overall, as well as for both frontal- and side-impact crash tests. Like most taller vehicles, the Sedona got a four-star rating for rollover resistance (a calculated figure).

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety gave the Sedona Good scores for each crash test, but it was not rated in the small-overlap front test for the passenger side. The Superior rating for frontal crash prevention is valid only when certain optional equipment is installed. Headlights are rated Good; but again, only if optional units are installed.

All Sedonas have a rearview camera. Surround-view cameras are standard only on the top model. Additional safety technology on the SX Limited includes forward-collision warning with automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise control, and blind-spot monitoring. Such features cost thousands of dollars extra, bundled into option packages for lower trim levels.

Model Lineup

L ($27,), the base model, comes with seven-passenger seating, sliding second-row seats, cloth upholstery, a rearview camera, keyless entry, a 5-inch infotainment touchscreen, Bluetooth connectivity, and inch alloy wheels. (Prices are MSRP and do not include destination charge.)

LX ($29,) gets a three-seat second-row bench for eight-passenger capacity, a power driver&#;s seat, and power sliding side doors. Leather is optional.

EX ($33,) adds leather seat trim, heated front seats, pushbutton start, front/rear parking sensors, rapid-charge USB ports, a inch driver information display, and inch wheels.

SX ($37,) adds an inch touchscreen, navigation, Infinity 8-speaker surround-sound premium audio, power front passenger seat, ventilated front seats, and heated second-row seats. Blind-spot detection and rear cross-traffic alert are included.

SX Limited ($42,) includes inch chromed wheels, a surround-view camera system, pushbutton start, and woodgrain trim. Safety features include lane-departure warning, autonomous emergency braking, and adaptive cruise control.

Options include second-row lounge seats, a dual-pane sunroof, and Nappa leather.

Exterior

Styling of the Sedona might qualify as virtually timeless, but nothing about its appearance ranks as adventurous. A few years back, Kia&#;s minivan looked sufficiently compelling visually, but freshly redesigned and recently-launched competitors, such as Chrysler&#;s Pacifica, have altered the minivan landscape.

Sitting upright, the Sedona grille is bracketed by LED running lights. Along the body, designers have exercised restraint with the chrome trim, though sheetmetal creases do tend to attract the eye. A bodyside step-up at the rear makes the glass appear to narrow, making the roof almost seem to disappear toward the back.

Interior

Traditional-type luxury rules the Sedona cabin, at least in upper trim levels with their leather-upholstered seats. Lesser-level models aren&#;t quite as enticing, but detail work has been adapted from Kia&#;s upscale sedans.

Not only is the cabin quiet on the road, it&#;s easily reconfigurable. In eight-passenger models, the second row contains a bench seat that slides forward, tucking against the front seats. The third-row seat folds into the floor, fully out of the way.

Seven-passenger Sedonas substitute a pair of captain&#;s chairs, which provide a pleasing lounge-type ambiance but take up more space than the bench would. Even so, the cabin doesn&#;t seem cluttered.

Horizontally laid-out, the dashboard is a bit dull, but regions of piano-black trim helps with eye appeal. So do two-tone color schemes. Upper trim levels benefit from soft-touch materials on the doors and dashboard.

Front and second-row seats promise fine comfort, but third-row space is the smallest in a contemporary minivan. Head clearance out back is limited, too. Front seats are wide and abundantly padded, separated by a wide center stack.

Small-item storage consists of dual gloveboxes (one cooled), door and dashboard bins, and a massive center console. Top models add a tiered tray and a sliding console armrest. UVO infotainment is simple to use and Apple CarPlay compatible.

With second- and third-row seats folded, cargo space can reach cubic feet. With all seatbacks upright, volume totals cubic feet, growing to cubic feet with the third row down.

Driving Impressions

Occupants can anticipate a softly supple, well-composed ride. Not surprisingly, handling is on the sluggish side. Tires can squeal considerably when cornering, accompanied by body lean.

Acceleration is less than spirited, due in part to vehicle weight, but satisfactory for this league. Fuel economy trails that of newer minivan models. Some shakiness in the steering column might be noted, but the Sedona isn&#;t prone to wander past the highway&#;s crown.

On the whole, the Sedona behaves more like a minivan from the past than the present day. A Sedona can tow up to 3, pounds, though a full load of passengers could turn that task into a struggle.

Gas mileage varies slightly by mode, reflecting a difference between power-steering systems. Base Sedonas are EPA-rated at 18/24 mpg City/Highway, or 20 mpg Combined. SX trim is EPA-rated at 18/25 mpg City/Highway, or 21 mpg Combined, whereas the SX Limited estimate dips to 17/22 mpg City/Highway, or 19 mpg Combined.

Final Word

Despite an ample collection of standard features, the Sedona falls below today&#;s minivan norm in terms of utility, flexibility, and safety technology – though crash-test scores are good. Still, it comes close enough to competitors to make it worth considering, for one reason: price. An EX with few options can provide fine value, though a few thousands of dollars more would buy a fully up-to-date Honda Odyssey or Chrysler Pacifica.

2018 Kia Sedona LX+ Review and Complete walkaround

Unless you are willing to spend far more on a full-size SUV like a Ford Expedition or Chevy Tahoe, no SUV will beat the practicality of a minivan. My Sedona tester was fitted with what Kia calls the "SXL Prestige Package." This replaces the second-row bench with two captains chair, each of which is capable of sliding, and reclining. Since I don't have kids of my own, I asked some local families in my neighborhood to try out the seats. The children absolutely loved having the ability to lay back and put their feet up, a feature only minivans and high-dollar luxury sedans seem to offer.

The Prestige Package may eliminate one seat, limiting the Sedona to seven seats, but it is worth it for the extra comfort and ease of access to the third row. While I'm on the subject of the third row, it is actually usable for adults. One of the biggest challenges I encounter when reviewing a three-row vehicle is cramming myself into the rearmost seats. Even at 5'9", most mid-size SUVs are a tight fit at best.

The second row certainly houses the best seats in the house but the third row is actually usable for adults on a long trip. Even with the third row up, the Sedona offers cubic feet of storage. When you don't need the third row, it can be stored in the floor to allow for up to cubic feet of storage.

Be Smart, Check in Advance. CARFAX — Your Vehicle History.

CARFAX — Your Vehicle History Expert

Sometimes what you don't know can't hurt you, but that's not the case when buying a used car. As an independent vehicle history provider, at CARFAX we've made it our mission to tell you everything you need to know by uncovering as many events as possible from the previous life of a used car. Our primary goal is to help you get to know your next car from the inside out before deciding to make an investment that will be part of you and your family's everyday life. We believe your next car shouldn't be hiding anything from you.

CARFAX Vehicle History Reports contain over 28 billion historical records from 20 European countries, the US and Canada, which are updated daily with new information.

Even if you live in a country we don't collect vehicle data from, it's still always worth checking the Vehicle Identification Number without obligation. The used car import and export market is booming and many owners would be surprised to find out exactly what happened to their vehicle during its previous life abroad.

Privacy for Customers — Transparency over Vehicles

Let's be clear: Although we strive to find every detail of a vehicle's life so far, we are focused only on the vehicle's history, and do not collect any information on previous owners. The information we provide relates solely to the vehicle, its odometer reading, any accidents that have been covered up, where the vehicle comes from and much more — it never gets personal. We've uncovered irreparable damage several times in the past, but other times our vehicle history checks draw a blank — and sometimes that's actually a good thing.

Second Hand — Not Second Best

Did you know that considerably more used cars are sold than new cars? We think this second-hand system is nothing short of fantastic. However, it goes without saying that it gives rise to different methods and tactics: Some sellers will disguise a car that's been in an accident under a fresh coat of paint, tamper with the odometer or conceal theft. This is one of the less appealing aspects of buying second hand. Our goal is to establish trusting relationships between buyers and sellers, since this is the best way to help customers make the right decision. Your new car should be reliable and make you feel safe, as well as make you feel like you haven't paid too much.

But more than anything else, we don't want you or your family unknowingly sitting behind the wheel of a vehicle that isn't % safe. This is why we strive to take these vehicles off the road, which not only makes the used car market safer but our streets safer too.

CARFAX — 35+ Years of Experience in Vehicle Histories

CARFAX was founded in the US in and expanded into Europe in Around team members spread across six European offices process vehicle information from 22 countries.

Fostering strategic partnerships with registration authorities, law enforcement agencies, government departments, insurance companies, inspection centers and numerous other leading companies around the world has enabled us to compile a unique international database for vehicle histories. We use this database to help make the used car market more transparent. We give everyone in the process of buying a used car access to what is currently the world's most comprehensive source for vehicle history reports, and is growing day by day.

We remain neutral and independent despite our partnerships — our sole purpose is help customers make an informed choice and ensure their safety and the safety of their family. This includes never collecting any personal details — we do not accept any PII from data sources amongst the information we provide about a vehicle. We ensure that data protection laws are observed at all times. Furthermore, we always collect our data in compliance with legal and regulatory frameworks — in all the countries in which we are active. We expressly distance ourselves from illegal activities such as data theft, scraping and hacking.
