Normal anime girl

Normal anime girl DEFAULT

A couple “” girls mentioned in this post:

  • Kanna Kamui.
  • Kobato Hasegawa.
  • Rom and Ram.
  • Serara.
  • Rika Furude.
  • .
  • Latifa Fleuranza.
  • Rikka Takanashi.
  • Yuki Kusakabe.

Admit it – when you see “Moe” characters you can’t help be drawn to them. Because they’re too for their own good.

This is especially true when a character isn’t for the sake of being . Meaning – they’re because it’s a natural part of their personality, and they play a useful role in the they’re featured in.

This won’t be your typical list, so expect to see characters you may not have heard of.

Or characters who aren’t as popular as other characters.

20+ girls who are just too adorable:

1. Kanna Kamui

kanna kamui cute
kanna kamui holding miss kobayashi

From 2017’s series – Miss Kobayashi, Kanna is one of the 3 main characters.

And like Tohru, she’s a dragon who lives with Miss Kobayashi.

Usually Kanna is shy and quiet most of the time, but her actions tell another story. Showing just how witty, clever, and caring she is.

And most of the time… She’s busy being . So much so that Miss Kobayashi ends up feeling guilty at some point.

2. Kobato Hasegawa

Kobato is what you’d call a Chuunibyou. Something that tends to be more common with kids.

Here’s the definition:

a person which manifests delusional behavior, particularly thinking that one has special powers that no other person has.

In Kobato’s case, she thinks she has the powers of a Gothic vampire from her favorite – Necromancer. As she’s so inspired and influenced by it.

Kobato’s one of the main characters in the series – Haganai: I Don’t Have Many Friends.

At the end of the day she’s a kid who’s had her innocence taken away. But in some aspects, she still has it and is able to show it.

That’s what makes Rika Furude’s character unnerving.

15 Kawaii Anime Figures That Will Make You Blush

The CUTEST Anime Shows That Will Warm Your Heart

Theo J Ellis

I'm the Founder of Anime Motivation. Featured as a judge in Crunchyroll's 2021 anime awards. The 1st anime I watched was Dragon Ball Z. I've seen 100's since then, with Saiki K being one of my all time favorites.

While not quite as prevalent as it once was, anime is the medium of the wide and varied hair color. Everything from sky blue to bubblegum pink could be found on characters without much searching. However, for as varied as hair color can be, with each color representing distinct traits of a character, there will always be an army of normals to even things out.

Brown is average. There are more brunettes in the world than any hair color. However, even though black hair should symbolize the color of normal for Japanese anime, they still use brown for everything from your standard harem king to your good old childhood friend. Brown is the hair color you give a character when they don’t need or want to stand out. It can also be used when you want their personality to be more unexpected or balanced between all the other hair color archetypes. Yet, even though it represents normal, brown, being an earthy color, is also all about representing stability too.

So who are our top picks that perfect exemplify this average joe hair color?

Sousuke from Full Metal Panic

Full Metal Panic anime

Sousuke is kind an interesting case, because in a way he isn’t very average. In Full Metal Panic, he is a pretty spectacular soldier, but as you find out, he’s pretty terrible at being an average school boy. That is part of the comedy of this anime. He looks pretty normal, but it ends up being pretty difficult for him to blend.

Kosaki from Nisekoi

Ah, Kosaki. As the childhood friend girl trope of Nisekoi, it is only natural that she is the only one to have a normal hair color. Due to the big personalities of her mother and sister, Kosaki grew up timid except for that one brave moment when she gave a locket Raku so that they would know each other if the met again later.

Sorata from Pet Girl of Sakura Hall

sorata from the pet girl of sakura hall

In many respects, Sorata is one of the most normal people staying in Sakura Hall. In fact, in the beginning he aims to work hard to move back into the regular dorms because Sakura Hall is filled with so many weirdoes. However, despite his average looks, he has a few quirks that shows he belongs in the dorm.

Haruhi from Ouran High School Host Club

Haruhi Fujioka from Ouran High School Host Club

Haruhi and her brown hair is so normal that a bunch of boys can’t even tell she is a girl at first when her hair is cut short. Yet, once they do discover this, she becomes fast friends with a bunch of eccentric rich men. You could say that Haruhi’s sheer normalness is a sort of stability and grounding point for the otherwise insane members of the host club.

Keiichi from Higurashi: When They Cry

Higurashi is not known for its normal hair colors, except in Keiichi, the main character. As this anime got its start as a visual novel, typically the protagonists are as normal as normal can be since they are telling the story. While Keiichi has a bit more screen presence in the anime, he still needs to be the normal anchor of the story.

Yui from K-on!

yui from kon

All the girls in K-On are meant to be cute, but they are also meant to be relatively normal. Yet, the main character of that normalcy is Yui. While the plot gives all the girls their fair focus, Yui and her desire to learn kicks it all off.

Tabata from The Daily Lives of High School Boys

Tabata from The Daily Lives of High School Boys

Tabata’s character design is purposeful. They made him as normal and average looking as humanly possible, and made his character distinctly strange. He does weird things, but he does them in such an innocent normal way that they are made to seem even stranger.

Nagisa from Clannad

Nagisa was meant to be that normal, innocent girl while still being able to function. She is essentially that perfect childhood friend trope without having that childhood friend back story. However, while some of the other girls have more normal circumstances, their hair color more so speaks to their wild and varied personalities, while Nagisa is made out to be the perfect average girl that brings stability to Tomoya’s life.

Shuu from Guilty Crown

Shuu from Guilty Crown

No one in Guilty Crown is what you would call average, but Shuu was made out to be that sort of main character that starts off as an average guy whose position becomes greatly elevated by his newfound powers. If it weren’t for his powers, he’d be someone you would overlook completely.

Nanami from Kamisama Kiss

kamisama kiss anime

You can’t have a series where a girl is suddenly surrounded by supernatural big shots without that crucial normal girl. You see a lot of brown-haired normal beauties like Nanami in shoujo romance series because every normal girl that watches them kind of wants to be able to slip into the main heroine’s shoes.

Issei from High School DxD

Issei from High School DxD

While many harem kings can run a harem by being extraordinary, most character designers want the male leads of their ecchi/ harem series to be very, very average looking. Part of the popularity of these series is that the men watching can feel like they too can have a bunch of angels and demons obsessed with them too.

Hiyori from Noragami

Hiyori from Noragami

Hiyori needed to be the normal link to the supernatural world in Noragami. Furthermore, it is Hiyori’s normalcy and the various strengths of her character that keep Yato grounded. She is his stable rock, and after a time, the literal tie that he has to the world.

Oreki from Hyouka

oreki from hyouka

At a glance, Oreki seems like the laziest anime character to ever be conceived. However, his laziness is simply to preserve energy and maintain his low-key existance. However, despite exterior laziness, he is actually quite intelligent and spends much of his time observing. Alongside that, he is actually quite good at solving a mystery.

Naru from Love Hina

Naru from Love Hina

Love Hina uses its brown hair characters to create a bit of a mystery. Keitaro is looking for love in the form of his brown-haired childhood friend that moved away. They promised to reunite at Tokyo University. Enter Naru, a brown haired girl he ends up living with who also wants to go to Tokyo U. However, there is also Mutsumi, a ditsy brown-haired girl with similar Tokyo U dreams. One of them is his fabled childhood friend, and it is that standard brown hair that creates some mystery as to who.

Kurono from Gantz

Kurono from Gantz

Gantz is all about your standard normal scumbag main character doing magnificent things. Throughout the series, you watch Kurono go from normal high schooler to badass alien fighter. The whole idea is that he starts off about as far from magnificent as humanly possible, and having an average hair color is the herald of his character.

Uraraka from My Hero Academia

Uraraka from My Hero Academia

Uraraka’s powers make her better than your normal school girl, but that doesn’t change the fact that she is a normal girl surrounded by abnormal characters. She’s not a spaz like Deku, a high-strung rule enforcer like Iida, and she doesn’t have a quirk that manifests in odd physical ways like Mina or Tsuyu. She is very much a standard high school girl, but one that has a quirk useful enough to make her a hero.

Kotetsu from Tiger and Bunny

kotetsu tiger and bunny

Kotetsu may be a hot-head, but he is the normal alternative to the overachieving Bunny. He is meant to be the more down to earth one of the pair, and that’s why his storyline has a lot of down to earth problems for him to overcome. As a fun bonus, that goatee is pretty spectacular.

Nanami from Pet Girl of Sakura Hall

Nanami from Pet Girl of Sakura Hall

Like Sorata is made out to be the normal male of Sakura Hall with a few specific quirks that land him there, Nanami is meant to be the normalest of normal girls in that dorm full of oddballs. In fact, she is the only one that was put there for financial reasons rather than behavioral reasons. She doesn’t have any quirks about her personality, and often she is used as the normal person looking on at all the weird shenanigans for comic relief.

Oga from Beelzebub

beelzebub anime

Although Oga is a thug, he is a relatively normal guy as his hair color suggests. Like many shounen protagonists, his normalcy disappears when something miraculous happens. This thug finds the son of the devil and now finds himself shouldered with raising it.

Ritsu from The Kawai Complex Guide to Manors and Hostel Behavior

Ritsu is quiet, reserved, and often the only voice of reason in the youth hostel. Of all those that live there, she is the most normal aside from Usa, but he always gets pulled into all sorts of odd situations. Ritsu is very much an observer and even when pulled out of her shell she maintains a stable sort of normal girl character.

Anime girls can finally chill

Anime girls face many expectations. Audiences want to see them be soft, sweet, funny, relatable, and of course, super-sexy. Their storylines require them to be hyper-competent, hard to get (yet constantly pining for love), and again, super-sexy. Often they’re expected to be all of the above while also saving the world. Is there no justice for the waifus? When will it end?

Apparently, now. A growing number of shows, particularly in the iyashikei or “healing” genre of anime, are finally freeing their female protagonists from these outlandish pressures, and even better, taking their relationships seriously. In signature series for the genre, like Flying Witch and Tamayura Hitotose, the focus shies away from action and romance, in favor of meaningful connections with family and friends, and finding joy in the minutiae of life.

Iyashikei anime certainly isn’t new, but it is seeing an increase in popularity, thanks to its much-needed soothing effect on viewers. The genre first emerged as a response to the trauma following the Kobe earthquake and Tokyo sarin attack in 1995, when audiences craved a sense of safety from fiction. While iyashikei can include works that feature elements of action or fantasy, the focus tends to be smaller and more mundane, and there’s a heavy emphasis on visually stunning settings.

Many of the calm storylines, while charming, are unfortunately dismissed as “cute girls doing cute things,” as is often the case for the series Non Non Biyori. Other series are considered domestic fantasy fulfillment for men, like The Helpful Fox Senko-san. While a key part of iyashikei is the sense of serenity it imparts on viewers, relying on female characters to provide this emotional impact without granting them interiority subjects them to the same expectations they face in other genres.

Image: J.C.Staff

The pressure to be cute and helpful is not going to immediately dissipate for our two-dimensional leading ladies. But series that allowed their female protagonists calm agency have been around since the 1990s, even if this particular kind of onscreen empowerment was rare.

While the action-packed magical girl powerhouse Sailor Moon helped popularize anime in North America, 1998’s Yokohama Shopping Log provided a calm counterbalance, even if Western audiences were largely unaware of it at the time. Studio Ghibli’s films (particularly My Neighbor Totoro) throughout the years helped establish iyashikei’s appeal, while proving that stories about women’s lives have commercial viability. The low-key hangout anime series Azumanga Daioh brought these efforts into the early 2000s, with an ensemble of high-school girls going about their (mostly) normal lives, with a hefty dose of surreal humor to boot.

With the foundation laid and demand on the rise, it’s becoming increasingly acceptable for shows to let their young women explore life safely, and find fulfillment on their own terms.Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear and Adachi and Shimamura are two incredible examples that recently wrapped their first dubbed seasons. Laid-Back Camp (currently only available subtitled) takes the chill vibes to the next level.

Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear (streaming on Hulu and Funimation) starts out with a tried-and-true isekai storyline where the protagonist, Yuna, is transported into the world of her favorite video game. But rather than fighting to get back to the real world, or pursuing in-game clout, she simply enjoys life and seeks out good food. In spite of her somewhat selfish motives, her quests often improve the lives of other residents of the game, many of whom seem to be NPCs. By turns funny and sweet, the series holds extra appeal for anyone fond of found-family tropes and deliciously drawn culinary delights.

Image: EMT Squared

Adachi and Shimamura (on Funimation) is a more traditional slice of life, with just a touch of romantic angst and a few surreal side stories to keep things interesting. The protagonists, Sakura Adachi and Hougetsu Shimamura, are two high-school slackers who strike up a friendship while skipping class. Gradually, their connection develops into something more. It’s essentially the antithesis to the classic anime Inuyasha: there are no sacred items to be recovered, no action-packed fights with powerful demons, and certainly no dramatic screaming of each other’s names during fights and professions of love. Instead, Adachi and Shimamura devotes multiple episodes to shopping for gifts at uncrowded malls.

Laid-Back Camp (on Crunchyroll) is exactly what it sounds like: a series about girls going camping. It’s effectively Azumanga Daioh in the woods, with even more stunning background art and serene, food-focused plots.

Without the drama of evil forces to overcome, or even the grand and troubled romances of fan favorites like Fruits Basket, some people might find these series boring. But the beauty is in the lack of conflict: knowing that everything is and will be all right for the characters creates a profound sense of relief for viewers. If Fruits Basket is the media equivalent of a post-breakup crying jag, iyashikei’s vibes are far more like falling asleep under a weighted blanket next to someone you love.

Rather than the plot relying on constant drama for the story to progress, the focus is on the characters’ interactions and ideas. In Kuma Kuma Kuma Bear, this plays out with Yuna solving problems for communities in a video game world while developing closer friendships than she ever had in the real world. In Azumanga Daioh, the ensemble’s cast simply lives out their daily lives, with the comedy coming from their interactions and interpretations (or misinterpretations) of those interactions. In Laid-Back Camp, the scenery is so gorgeous that even with the fairly minimal plot, it’s still a joy to watch.

Image: C-Station

Stylistically, iyashikei also tends toward bright secondary colors, elaborate backgrounds, montages with cheerful music, and voiceover used for characters to reflect on their feelings, rather than to react to their opponent’s latest fight move. Character design shows a heavy influence from traditional shojo aesthetics, with “cute” styles that focus on large eyes and fashionable clothing, rather than unrealistic outfits or exaggerated anatomy. Communication tends to be more straightforward as well. There are still misunderstandings between characters, but mostly for comedic effect.

Rather than indulge in the more typical tsundere dynamic, characters are far more likely to gently and easily share their true feelings, whether those are focused on friendship, romantic interest, or a more familial love. While there can still be some buildup and angst to these confessions, it’s clear to the audience that the sentiment will be reciprocated, and the characters should feel safe to express themselves.

While the high-stakes worlds of most popular anime series are full of epic battles and angst-filled relationships, meant to drive endless excitement and emotional engagement, sometimes the intensity is just too much. There’s plenty of joy to be found in simply watching characters live their lives. Enjoying peaceful scenery, following slow-burn relationships that develop in their own time, and taking genuine delight in the absurdity of existence provides a unique type of escapism that’s desperately needed in an overstressed, overstimulated world. The timing is right. These calm portrayals of women’s lives and relationships are only going to become more frequent and popular.

An open world stands before us, one with stories that reassure us that it’s OK to just exist, to appreciate other people, and to take in the world around us. And one where anime girls can, at long last, finally chill.

I like weird. Especially weird, eccentric female characters.

Weird implies you’re different and miles ahead of what’s considered “normal”. Assuming that’s a natural part of your personality and you’re not “faking” it, weird has its advantages.

Isn’t “weird” the same reason we follow:

  • Celebrities.
  • shows.
  • Musicians.
  • Businesses.

And people in general, because they’re different?

Too much of “normal” becomes boring sometimes. Because then things stay the same, and there’s no fun, progress or adventure in that.

Here are 16 female characters who are just like I’ve described…

The Best Eccentric Female Characters In :

1. Kona Furugoori (Robotic Notes)

Kona Furugoori With A Weird Smile

Kona locks herself in her room and spends a dangerous amount of time playing video . With nothing but crisps and snacks by her side.

Because of this fact, she spends little time outdoors, and has no idea how to communicate with people in a way that’s “normal”.

Instead, she uses text talk. As in:

And other abbreviations people use on the internet these days. Did I mention she has a disturbing fetish for girls that look “fragile” and innocent?

2. Yosano Akiko (Bungou Stray Dogs)

Yosano Akiko Weird Facial Expression

Yosano is one of the support characters from Bungou Stray Dogs.

Her supernatural ability is: Thou Shalt Not Die. This means she can never die, no matter how severe the pain or damage to her body.

In contrast, if someone else is dying, she has the power to bring them back to life. And this is way her eccentric nature comes from.

She has a weird fetish for saving patients on the verge of death. Almost in a way that makes her sadistic.

But considering how much pain she endures because she can’t ever die, it makes sense.

3. Sumire Muroto (Black Bullet)

Muroto Sumire

“Corpses are good. They don’t babble. Only they can understand my feelings.” – Sumire Muroto

Sumire is a researcher Rentaro calls “doc” in Black Bullet. She seems to take pleasure in mocking Rentaro’s “ordinary problems” as she phrases it.

And whenever Rentaro visits Sumire, she’s seen eating bugs mixed into a strange type of curry made from a lab experiment.

It’s a little more than weird how she’s able to even digest it and not throw up at the sight of it.

4. Shizuku Hazuki (New Game!)

Hazuki Shizuku Smiling Gif

Shizuku is nothing but a tease. The queen of antagonizing people. And taking pleasure in seeing how others react to her nonsensical actions.

And on top of that, she has a weird obsession with anything or anyone who’s “” in her opinion.

But if you ask me, Shizuku Hazuki’s eccentric nature is one of my favourites.

5. Koko Hekmatyar (Jormungand)

Koko Hekmatyar Smiling

Koko is the type of arms dealer who’s unusually cheerful, smiling, skipping with happiness and in a word: strange. Especially considering the dangerous lifestyle she leads.

But there’s something comforting (and at the same time – dangerous) about this side of Koko Hekmatyar. It’s perplexing.

And that’s why she’s such an interesting character, BECAUSE she’s so damn eccentric and unpredictable.

6. Sayako Kuwahara (Bamboo Blade)

Sayako Kuwahara With A Perplexed Facial Expression

Sayako is the type of girl who’s got enough energy to wear out the average person. And when she sets her mind to something, she’s unstoppable. Willing to stay up ALL NIGHT when she has an idea for a novel.

But then there’s this “weird” side of her that if she fails or is too frustrated by something, she falls into a deep depression. To the point of saying she wants to “roll over and die” in so many words.

During these ups and downs she skips school and doesn’t talk to anybody. And will unpredictably show up out of the blue as if nothing ever happened.

Bike Riding is one of the things Sayako does which helps her feel better, at ease and at peace with herself.

7. Yuuri Andou (Bamboo Blade)

Yuri Andou Lying Down

Yuuri Andou hates mornings, seems to lack motivation, and loves to bad mouth other people (to their face). And her appearance is one of the strangest out of the Banboo Blade characters.

She also has a sadistic side to her that makes her uncomfortable. And because of her unpredictable, hard to understand personality, “eccentric” is the only way to describe it.

8. Momiji (Good Luck Girl)

Momiji Image From Good Luck Girl

Just look at the way she’s dressed. That alone makes Momiji a weirdo before she even opens her mouth or expresses her personality.

Momiji is a “poverty god” in this parody series, and enjoys teasing Ichiko Sakura (main character).

Considering the weirdness of this parody series, it’s no surprise Momiji (who is also a main character) happens to be one of the weirder characters.

9. Tetra (Log Horizon)

Tetra With A Cute Smile

Tetra is a ball of energy that doesn’t know when to stop bouncing up and down. Kind of like Sayako Kuwahara.

Tetra intentionally dresses and acts the way she does ONLY in the video game. The real version of Tetra is said to be completely different and nothing like the alter ego shown in Log Horizon.

10. Mina Ashido ()

Mina Ashido Smiling In The Mha Tournament

Again, like others on this list, Mina is a like a smartphone with the charger plugged in 24/7. Unable to shut off or power down.

She has a strange Pink appearance because of her abilities and quirk (acid), and that’s only the beginning of where her weird personality stems from.

11. Mei Hatsume ()

Mei Hatsume In A Cheerful Mood

Mei Hatsume will shamelessly promote herself and the technological she develops without hesitation or embarrassment. Even if it’s in situations (like in the middle of a fight) where it’s inappropriate.

And of course, her inventions are about as weird as she is.

I like this side of Mei Hatsume from a business point of view, because FEW people in this world are willing to be that blatant about promoting themselves.

Especially because there’s such a negative stigma around “selling”.

12. Shichimiya Satone (Chuunibyou)

Shichimiya Satone Smiling

One of the weird, uncomfortable things she does is puts her nose against the MC’s nose as a form of “greeting”.

Sachimiya Satone isn’t the only weirdo in this slice of life/comedy series. After all, there are other “Chuunibyou” characters besides Satone (like Rikka).

But focuses on Satone for a minute, she goes by the name of “magical devil girl”. And is always seen with a love heart sticker on the side of her face.

13. Hikari Takanashi (Interviews With Monster Girls)

Hikari Takanashi Smiling In A Black T Shirt

Hikari Takanashi is one of my favorite characters. Because she shares similar traits to my personality.

Hikari antagonizes other people for her own pleasure, is brutally sarcastic, laid back, a little weird and easy-going. It takes a lot to phase her in a way that’s detrimental.

Because of this she’s hard to predict or figure out. As any problems she has is hidden under the surface.

As far as weird characters go, Haruhi ranks one of the highest among eccentric female characters.

She’s bossy, abusive, pushy, annoying, and strange. All wrapped into one tiny package.

15. Yumeko Jabami (Kakegurui)

Yumeko Jabami Holding Japanese Yen In Her Hand

If I had to compare, Yumeko Jabami shares similarities with Koko Hekmatyar. There’s a strong sense of mystery behind her character and personality.

You never know exactly what she’s thinking, scheming or what her true motives are.

Ironically these characteristics make her the perfect character for Kakegurui, since it’s an about gambling and taking risks.

In the world of gambling, being mysterious has its benefits. Because your opponents will struggle to predict your next move based on behaviour alone.

16. Zero Two ()

Zero Two Looking Down

Zero Two is one of the main characters in . A 2018 series made by Studio Trigger And A-1 Pictures.

Not surprisingly, Zero Two is introduced in a strange way. Typical of Studio Trigger’s style of storytelling.

In one scene, Zero Two is seen licking Ichigo’s face as a way to “get a taste” of what she’s like (no pun intended).

And like Yumeko, Zero Two is one of the mysterious, strangest eccentric female characters you’ll come across.

[Anime] Most "normal" Female anime character?

If you've been following anime I'm sure you are well aware of how many female characters tend to be portrayed as either a walking pile of breasts or a moron. I am sure some people know what moe is....

However every so often you may find a female character who seems normal and not what a women typically is like in an anime.

My question is: In your opinion who is the most "normal" Female anime character? Who defies the stereotype of women in anime?

I'll start: I think that Maka From Soul Eater is the most normal character I have yet to see. She has a real personality, isn't a brain-dead idiot on screen, and faces actual problems that she must overcome.

so who do you believe is the most normal female anime character?

Sakura from Naruto, specifically Shipuuden when she gets over her whole "more interested in boys than anything" mentality. Also, the neighbor from Full Metal Alchemist, and the girlfriend from Yu Yu Hakusho. (I can't remember names and am too lazy to Google.)

She's the smartest person in the show, and shes not just tits.

And pretty much the entire cast of Madoka besides Madoka, because she's a useless piece of shit. Besides when she turns into a god

Second comment got it right too, Saber from Fate is a pretty good example of that.

These look like real girls too.

It's ... really hard to find a non-sexualized female character. It's practically a law to make all female characters non-threatening to potential male viewers (outside such series where the threat of the female is the basis of the entire show - Higurashi no naku koro ni, for example). Not having to take them seriously because of breasts or mental or emotional deficiency are apparently quite effective.

    I'll recommend Kino's Journey.

There are other female characters I enjoy, ones with a brain and or a deeper personality than many shows offer, but I can't claim they don't have boobs going for them (Ghost in the Shell, for instance, or Mezzo).

I'd say in matter of relationship and how she puts herself in the show I'd say Rukia from bleach is pretty decent. She interacts normal with other people insted of being the typicial anime girl...I'm sure there are others, but only Rukia jumps to mind.

C'mon guys, we have to go old school for this. Naussica all the way. Sure, she's a princess and kicks some ass here and there, but she bleeds the same as everyone else. I always thought she was very well drawn and written.

I'd also say that Faye qualifies. She's kind of incompetent but I'm sure there are TONS of women just like her running around in the real world. She's kind of slutty but it's woven into her character beyond "HEY LOOK TITS!"

10 Female Anime Characters Who All Look The Same

Sometimes, character designs for certain female characters can blend together. Here are 10 of them who look similarーor even exactly the same.

There are often instances in anime where some characters could be mistaken for twins, despite being from two completely different anime. Although this can span for decades, character designs can sometimes fall back on others, making for an easy coincidence.

RELATED: 10 Shonen Characters That Look Exactly The Same

This isn't to say all female character designs look the same. There are unique characters, such as Zero Two from Darling in the Franxx or even Ryuko from Kill la Kill. However, some girls' character designs often look relatively similar, with some tropesーparticularly around important character moment-driven haircutsーrevolving around them. Here are 10 female characters who can easily be mistaken for each other.

    10 Rei Hino (Sailor Mars)

It wouldn’t be ridiculous to assume that some girls in shojo anime look the way they do because Rei Hino from Sailor Moon did it first. Her long dark hair and somewhat snotty, cool-girl demeanor has regularly shown up in a lot of different kinds of anime since then. Characters like Kagome Higurashi from Inuyasha are almost interchangeable with Rei, with them both being loud, outspoken heirs to a Shinto shrine, complete with a goofy grandpa.

    9 Reina Kousaka (Sound! Euphonium)

Like Rei, Reina Kousaka from Sound! Euphonium has dark hair with bangs and dark eyes. In some ways, these characters probably look the most like a standard Japanese high school-aged girl, but the long hairstyle, complete with bangs, does seem to come up a lot.

RELATED: 5 Ways Princess Peach & Zelda Are The Exact Same (& 5 Ways They're Nothing Alike)

Like Rei, Reina is often seen by her classmates as somewhat surly and unapproachable, but she is also usually pretty quiet, except when it comes to her love of music.

8 Homura Akemi (Puella Magi Madoka Magica)

Homura Akemi is a magical girl in Puella Magi Madoka Magica, which is a series that subverts some of the tropes regularly seen in magical girl series, dealing with dark themes and issues of consent and manipulation within the magical girl genre. Homura is a very serious person, who wears her long, dark hair in braids early on in the series, but later she wears it loose and long with bangs. She often has a very cold expression, giving her something of a tsundere look.

    7 Mio Akiyama (K-On!)

One thing that a lot of girls in high school anime have in common is that they have a particular hobby, and often, that hobby has something to do with music. Rei Hino is a talented singer, and Reina Kousaka is actually a musician. Mio Akiyama in K-On! is also a musician, as she is a member of a light music club, which essentially is a club in which she and her classmates form a band. She has the same long dark hair and eyes that many female characters have.

    6 Enma Ai (Hell Girl)

Most shojo anime (and shonen anime, for that matter) feature middle school and high school age characters. This is because the target audience for these series are young people, and they want the characters to seem relatable. It also means the characters tend to be students, and many of them wear school uniforms. While these uniforms aren’t identical across different series, they’re similar enough to make characters like Enma Ai from Hell Girl resemble characters from other series.

5 Sawako Kuronuma (From Me to You)

While shojo anime can be made in a lot of different genres, from science fiction to fantasy to comedy to drama, a very popular genre for shojo anime is romance. Many of them deal with high school-aged young women falling in love, dealing with relationship drama, and coming to terms with their feelings. These characters also tend to look fairly similar, like Sawako Kuronuma from From Me to You, since the long hair and dark eyes can make a character seem shy or hard to read.

    4 Tohru Honda (Fruits Basket)

Tohru Honda is another great example of a character from a romance manga (though Fruits Basket is absolutely a supernatural fantasy anime as well). She and Sawako look a lot alike, perhaps even more than any of the other characters featured here, since they have long, thin faces, huge eyes and stick straight hair with bangs. They definitely appear to be cut from the same cloth with regard to their character designs, even though they are fairly different in personality.

3 Misaki Ayuzawa (Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama!)

Misaki Ayuzawa from Kaichou Wa Maid-Sama! is a character in a very specific situation, in that she works as a maid in a maid cafe, which is a secret that she tries to keep from her classmates in order for them to not know that she isn’t as wealthy as many of them are, including the boy she ends up falling for (who of course learns her secret). But her no-nonsense attitude and her rather familiar character design make her very similar to a lot of other shojo heroines.

    2 Honoka Yukishiro (Pretty Cure)

Honoka Yukishiro from Pretty Cure has her own unique, colorful costume that definitely wouldn’t be easy to mix up with Sailor Mars.

RELATED: Pretty Cure: The 10 Best Dressed Characters In The Franchise

But like Rei, she has long, dark hair, and wears quite a bit of red (though that’s more in her school uniform than her magical girl outfit).

1 Jubei (Jubei-Chan: The Ninja Girl)

Another anime with magical girl trappings, and one created by the same manga creator that brought us Fruits Basket, is Jubei-Chan: The Ninja Girl. The series follows a young girl, Jiyu Nanohana who dons an eyepatch that transforms her appearance (and personality) in order to give her magical ninja powers. In her Jubei form, the character looks a lot like other magical girl characters, with her long hair and serious, tsundere facial expressions. Surprisingly, despite the similar art styles, she does not look as much like Tohru Honda as others.
