Ultimate Fighting Championship Tickets

UFC tickets are available for the various MMA events held by the company. The Ultimate Fighting Championship began in 1993 as a single-day, eight-man tournament with very few rules to determine the best style of martial arts. The first victor was Royce Gracie, who became a legend of the sport along with other fighters like Ken Shamrock and Dan Severn. The violence in the early years of the UFC forced the sport to go underground to a degree and add more rules to protect the fighters.

The company was eventually purchased by Zuffa in 2001. Dana White was brought in after the purchase to promote the fights. Stars like Tito Ortiz, Chuck Liddell and Randy Couture, along with the reality show “The Ultimate Fighter” and “Fight Night” events on cable led to a boom period of growth for the company. After UFC’s acquisition of Strikeforce, women’s MMA matches were added to UFC cards in 2013, with Ronda Rousey becoming the first champion. UFC tickets are a hot commodity among MMA fans who wish to see their favorite fighters live.

UFC 261 in Jacksonville already a 'full house' sellout at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena

Now you see them. Now you don't.

Tickets for the April 24 UFC 261 mixed martial arts fights at Jacksonville's VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena sold out before morning's end on Friday.

The window for ticket sales opened at 10 a.m., and by 11:44 a.m., UFC president Dana White declared the event sold out.

White announced the sellout was among the fastest in UFC history, drawing an arena record for largest gross.

UFC fans flocked to the tickets in spite of staggering prices — tickets were going for up to $12,500, and by mid-morning, even the least expensive seats still available cost several thousand dollars — and potential concerns from crowding amid the continuing coronavirus pandemic.

White repeated his declaration from last week that UFC 261 will take place at full capacity inside the arena, with 15,000 spectators in attendance.

The April fights, if held with the full 15,000 fans, would be among the the first full-capacity major sporting events since the initial round of shutdowns from the pandemic in March, particularly for an indoor event. Most sports have limited indoor crowds to no more than 25 percent, and multiple NBA and NHL franchises have yet to permit fans to return to their arenas at all.

Under Centers for Disease Control recommendations, indoor events carry a greater risk of transmitting the SARS-CoV-2 virus than outdoor events. Similarly, close proximity to others for sustained durations, particularly when actions like singing or shouting are involved, also increases COVID-19 risk.

Tickets for the April 24 fights include a waiver, which stipulates that spectators cannot hold organizers liable in the event of illness or injury.

Three featured title fights headline the UFC 261 card. Welterweights Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal meet in a rematch of their contest from last summer, while Valentina Shevchenko and Jessica Andrade fight for the women's flyweight belt and Weili Zhang clashes with Rose Namajunas for the women's strawweight championship.

UFC previously visited Jacksonville last spring for a main event, UFC 249 on May 9, and two subsequent UFC Fight Nights during the following week. Those fights, the mixed martial arts circuit's first in the city, took place without spectators.

The full card, which is still subject to change, currently includes 13 fights. Middleweights Uriah Hall and Chris Weidman are scheduled to fight in another of the prominent matchups of the evening, while light heavyweight Anthony Smith, who was beaten by Glover Teixeira in Jacksonville last May, returns to the octagon against Jimmy Crute.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) has become the most successful mixed martial arts organization after the discipline surged in popularity in the 1990s. With a combination of dynamic fighters and great marketing, UFC quickly built up enough buzz to become the go-to combat sport organization in North America.

The very first event, UFC 1, took place in Denver, Colorado in November 1993. The idea was the brainchild of Art Davie who had proposed an eight-man single-elimination tournament to discover the best fighter in the world. At a time when fighters were trained heavily in one discipline and cross training was rare if not non-existent, the event appealed to sports fans by asking questions like: “Can a wrestler beat a boxer?”

The very first event was won by Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt Royce Gracie who had a submission-based style that his heavy-striking opponents had no answer to. Originally intended as a one-off event – or at most the first of a number of specials – UFC 1 instead created its own sport in a niche that was untapped to that point. As UFC evolved, the fights became more tightly regulated with additional rules, and eventually weight classes were established to further legitimize the promotion’s sense of equality among fighters.

The mid-2000s saw a huge growth in popularity as UFC hit the mainstream news and sports media. The top-selling UFC pay per views can do staggering numbers, with UFC 202 in August 2016 surging to over 1.6 million buys on the back of a main event featuring Nate Diaz vs. Connor McGregor. McGregor is one of the company’s biggest success stories to date, with his cross-over potential spiking the popularity of UFC whenever he is featured.
