In our Apple MacBook Pro inch review, we found that it performs better than the MacBook Air. That's because it's powered by either a Core iU or Core iU CPU. Both processors are noticeably faster than the dual-core Y-series CPU found in the MacBook Air.
To gauge its performance, we transcoded a 4K clip to p in a video-editing test. The MacBook Pro took just 14 minutes and 42 seconds versus 36 minutes on the Air.
It's also worth noting that Apple fitted the inch MacBook Pro with its quieter and slightly more comfortable 4th-gen Butterfly keyboard. More importantly, a material upgrade to its mechanism prevents inadvertent double presses.

Underwhelming performance for the price
Pricing for the base MacBook Air starts at $1, It packs a inch Retina display, GHz Core iY CPU, 8GB of RAM, and a GB SSD. Yeah, we know that price tag is a tough pill to swallow; however, cheap MacBook Air deals are fairly easy to find.

In terms of performance, in our Apple MacBook Air review, the Core iY dual-core CPU offers just enough oomph for your day-to-day tasks. We opened up a dozen Chrome tabs and streamed a YouTube video at p simultaneously. The MacBook Air didn't lag at all.

However, we do expect to see the MacBook Air selling for $ at multiple retailers. Likewise, you can expect to see the MacBook Pro get from a $ to $ discount in November.

How to find the best MacBook deals
Amazon and Best Buy tend to offer the best MacBook deals. The MacBook Air M1 and the MacBook Pro M1 tend to see from $50 to $ off discounts. However, we've noticed that Amazon offers slightly better MacBook sales that its competitors. For instance, the new M1 MacBook Air has dropped to $ a few times at Amazon.
If you're looking for deals on previous-gen MacBooks, B&H Photo is a good place to start, particularly because they usually have stock of the older MacBooks. However, keep in mind that the new MacBook Air M1 is the better bargain (especially if it's on sale). That said, B&H Photo usually has the Intel MacBook Air on sale from $ to $

With multiple configurations and various models to choose from, including some equipped with Apple’s new M1 processor, finding a deal on a MacBook or Mac Mini is not all that difficult.
Here, we’ll run through the discounts that are currently available for the latest MacBook models, as well as any deals to be had on the Mac Mini. Of course, there are also frequent discounts available for older Intel-based configurations — which will be compatible with macOS Monterey upon its release later this year — and we’ll highlight those when we find them.

Two other retailers to look at for refurbished MacBooks are Best Buy and Amazon. For now, however, these are the best MacBook and Mac Mini deals you can take advantage of.

At its hardware event last month, Apple unveiled the iPhone 13, Apple Watch 7, iPad Mini 6 and a new entry-level iPad but nary a new MacBook. But new models might be here soon.
Apple introduced the first MacBooks with its own Apple silicon M1 chip last year, and new models could be announced in a matter of weeks. New and inch MacBook Pros are expected, along with a revamped MacBook Air. The new machines could introduce an M2 (M1X?) processor, and the next MacBook Pro models are rumored to announce the return of the MagSafe charger, the HDMI port and the SD card slot -- while jettisoning the Touch Bar in favor of physical keys.
It's probably best to wait to see if an October Apple event materializes before plunking down for a new MacBook, but if you're ready to buy a first-gen M1 MacBook, you'll find some discounts at Amazon. You can save up to $ on a M1 MacBook Air and $ on a M1 MacBook Pro.
The MacBook Air and inch MacBook Pro lines received the M1 update, but the big inch MacBook Pro still uses an Intel Core i7 or i9 chip. And Apple still sells two higher-end configurations of the inch MacBook Pro with Intel parts; the company has stated that it will support all the Intel-powered Macs for years to come. While you might be tempted by a discount on an Intel-based MacBook, it had better be significant to convince you to get that instead of a new M1 MacBook. Our tests of the M1 machines show a significant performance increase over their predecessors. Plus, the M1 MacBook Air boasts a fanless design for silent operation.

Pricing for new M1 MacBooks

Want to buy new? The new M1 MacBook Air models are discounted by $70 and $ right now on Amazon, while the MacBook Pro models are $ and $ off. One benefit of paying full price and buying from Apple, however, is you can customize the machine and add more RAM or a higher-capacity solid-state drive, whereas the models sold on Amazon and other retailers are fixed configurations.
Want to go the refurb route? You can now find refurbished M1 MacBooks on Apple's Certified Refurbished Mac page. Refurb inventory changes rapidly so you may not always see an M1 MacBook Air or Pro listed. It's worth keeping an eye out, however, because you can lock in substantial savings, up to $ Rick Broida, CNET's Cheapskate emeritus, is a big fan of refurbs, particularly Apple's -- which are often as good as new.
It's also worth noting that the Apple Store offers students an educational discount, which can trim hundreds of dollars from the price of a new laptop or tablet.

In July , Apple stopped selling the inch MacBook on its website and in its stores, but you can still get it from third-party resellers. There are plenty of reasons to opt for it, too. Compared to the Air, not only is the MacBooks screen smaller, but the device is also extremely thin and light. It hasnt been updated since , but it has the modern Mac look, including the large trackpad, butterfly-style keyboard, Retina display, and simplified port selection. Aside from a headphone jack, the laptop comes with just a single Thunderbolt 3 USB-C port. That means you cant plug in a wired mouse and power at the same time, for example, unless you have an adapter.
The most recent version from received a bump to dual-core, seventh-generation Kaby Lake Intel processors. Like the MacBook Air, we found it to be fast enough to get through a normal day of productivity and web browsing. Wed recommend one of the newer MacBook Airs to most people, but for those who want the absolute smallest, most portable MacBook, this is your best option.
Amazon is currently selling the professionally Renewed and warranty-backed inch MacBook for as low as $, which gets you an Intel Core m3 processor, 8GB of RAM and a GB SSD.
MacBook Air Deals
Before , the MacBook Air hadnt received a serious update for many years. The iconic silver look may have been revolutionary in , but its thick bezels and lower-resolution screen had become outdated over the years. There have thankfully been a couple of revisions since then, but we can still recommend this reasonably recent model to people who have basic everyday needs and dont want to shell out for a Pro. Its Intel Core processor and 8GB RAM will ensure it wont feel too long in the tooth in , even if it isnt sporting the upgrades of the newer units. Its also the cheapest way into the MacBook ecosystem, and that alone makes it worth your consideration.
If youre in the market for a slightly older model and are willing to buy refurbished (in nearly like-new condition and backed by a warranty since its Amazon Renewed) so you can save some cash, the MacBook Air below is going for around $ including delivery at the moment a steal at this price.
In the middle of , Apple gave the MacBook Air a complete makeover, bringing it up to speed with the rest of its MacBooks. These and revisions have a new look thinner bezels, a smaller chassis, higher-resolution display, USB-C, as well as new color options like gold and space gray. The new MacBook Air also has some of the mainstays of modern Apple laptops such as the low-travel keyboard, oversized trackpad, and Touch ID fingerprint scanner.
The Air saw some hardware updates in too, including the addition of the newer 10th-gen Intel Core CPUs as well as the introduction of Apples own new M1 processor. We found it more than capable of handling day-to-day tasks, just dont expect to be editing 4K video on it. That said, that MI CPU is pretty amazing and punches well above its weight. It has the best battery life of all the MacBooks, and also comes with the lowest starting price of around $1, right now.
If youre in the market for a new M1 MacBook Air, then you can currently can enjoy a welcome discount off the usual price that knocks it down to $ This deal gets you the superb new M1 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a GB SSD perfect specs for an everyday laptop.
inch MacBook Pro Deals
It had been rumored for months, but there was still a sense of excitement when Apple finally unveiled the inch MacBook Pro in mid-November Many of the rumored features the higher-resolution display, the new keyboard, and the Navi graphics proved to be correct.
That means this is the biggest upgrade to the MacBook Pro line since it was redesigned in It takes features that had become standard in the MacBook Pro 15, like the Touch Bar and USB-C ports, and adds all-new features. For example, you can give it an 8TB SSD, the largest SSD available in any laptop, or if you need a huge amount of memory, theres a 64GB RAM option. If youre a pro and need power, the inch MacBook Pro is the one to get.
Right now the new inch MacBook Pro has a haircut that brings its price down to $2, You get a 9th-generation 6-core Intel Core i7 processor, 16GB of RAM, a GB SSD, and an AMD Radeon Pro M graphics card. With its more powerful specs, the MacBook Pro represents the top of the MacBook lineup. These are laptops for people who want to run heavy applications such as Photoshop or Lightroom or even just for people who want to multitask like nobodys business. However, there are several important distinctions you should be aware of, even concerning the inch models.
Apple has now added the Touch Bar to all of its recent MacBook Pro models. The Touch Bar is a slim OLED touchscreen that takes the place of the function keys and is purpose-built for navigating MacOS and its software but its admittedly not for everyone, so if youd prefer a MacBook Pro without it, then youll have to opt for a last-gen model from or earlier.
Right now, you can score has this refurbished inch non-Touch Bar MacBook Pro in renewed condition from For $, you get an Intel Core i5 processor, 8GB of memory, a GB SSD (the GB model is also on sale if you need a little more storage), and two Thunderbolt 3 ports. Its a great deal if you want to save yourself some cash by going without the Touch Bar.
Apple updated the inch MacBook Pro in to come with the latest-generation Intel processors, with slight speed bumps to both the base clock and Turbo Boost speeds. With the MacBook Pro 16 on the market now, prices of last-gen and smaller-sized MacBook Pro models have been slashed.
You can now save hundreds on the inch MacBook Pro complete with Touch Bar from early by buying this nicely specced unit at a discount that brings its price down to $ That gives you a quad-core Intel i5 processor, 8GB of RAM, and a B SSD. The new MacBook Pro with M1 chips were recently released and well be posting any worthy discounts for those as they appear, but if you want a deal, then buying this still-excellent Intel Core model is the surest way to save right now.
The inch MacBook Pro was given a couple refreshes for Although innovative, Apple isnt exactly a company known for re-inventing the wheel it typically sticks to a good design once its found it and the first inch MacBook Pro update wasnt an exception to this rule, featuring a very similar overall aesthetic to previous models (outdated bezels and all) with some modest hardware updates under the hood. One major noteworthy upgrade is the new Magic Keyboard, which is fantastic. Its comfortable, its quiet, and it even has a proper escape key this time around. The second update, however, added Apples fantastic new M1 CPU to the lineup.
This model packs that eight-core M1 CPU along with 8GB of RAM and a snappy GB SSD, pairing what are pretty much ideal specs for an everyday laptop with the sort of quality youd typically associate with the Pro line. You can grab the new inch MacBook Pro for $1,, which is one of the better prices weve seen for this new model.

The best cheap MacBook Pro deals, prices and sales in October
It can be difficult to find truly cheap MacBook Pro deals. These are premium machines and the jewel in Apple's lineup of luxury laptops. That means they don't tend to lose too much of their value. However, recent price drops have shown us that MacBook Pro deals aren't as rare these days as they once were.
MacBook Pro prices already start pretty high, which does give retailers plenty of scope for discounting during sales periods. However, demand is equally high for these machines - which means fewer cheap MacBook Pro deals during the rest of the year.
That's not to say a discount isn't out there, though - in fact, we've seen the latest M1 range of MacBook Pros pretty much constantly on sale since release. And these offers should repeat over Black Friday
You want the best there is, but there's no reason to pay more than you should for it. If you want to save some money you could check out the other non-Pro MacBook deals or maybe even a standard cheap laptop deal. We're also showing you how to make the most of cheap MacBook Pro trade-in schemes and student discounts further down the page as well. Plus, you may find additional savings up for grabs soon courtesy of the upcoming Black Friday MacBook deals and Apple Black Friday deals.
The best inch MacBook Pro M1 () deals
The most powerful inch Pro on the market
CPU: Apple M1 chip - 8 cores | Graphics: 8 core GPU | RAM: 8GB - 16GB | Screen: inch, 2, x 1, Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): x x inches
Powerful new M1 chip
Fan cooling will make for better performance
17 hours battery life
Higher price tag
The new M1 MacBook Pro offers a stark upgrade in processing power, and at a similar price range to the previous inch Intel model. Overall, it's a better buy, especially seeing as those MacBook Pro prices do match fairly frequently. However, you might find MacBook Pro deals hitting the earlier model more now that this beast is in the wild.
That means you'll want to decide whether you go for a potentially cheaper price point with the previous generation or a considerable performance upgrade with Apple's own chip. We've already seen some surprise price cuts over Black Friday - mere weeks after the latest MacBook Pro was released, however, which means the latest model may be more affordable than you think. Plus, with cheap MacBook Pro deals landing on these models as we move into , things are looking particularly affordable right now.
The new MacBook certainly delivers on Apple's promise of a revolutionary experience. Performance sees a considerable boost from the new M1 hardware, even running legacy apps designed for previous Intel machines. Things still look pretty similar from the outside, but you're running a serious powerful machine here, with a price that even manages to undercut other high end ultrabooks in value.

The last Intel release
CPU: 8th - 10th generation Intel Core i5 – i7 | Graphics: Intel Iris Plus Graphics | RAM: 8GB - 32GB | Screen: inch, 2, x 1, Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): x x inches
More starter storage
8th generation processors in entry level
The inch MacBook Pro is the model of choice for most creative professionals due to its balance between power and affordability, so it's understandable that some frustration has already arisen from the baseline model's use of an 8th generation Intel processor. Entry level buyers, therefore, will be working with a pretty old CPU that may not be able to hack the latest heavy duty programs. However, with improved RAM speeds, double the storage on offer, and an improved keyboard all at the same price as 's instalment, the trade off may well be worth it.
If you're willing to put some cash on the table, however, you can boost the inch MacBook Pro up to the latest 10th generation of Intel processors with up to 4TB of SSD storage, marking a return to the tiny powerhouse many have found in previous iterations.
We've already seen some cheap MacBook Pro deals hitting this release, and more are sure to be on their way as the M1 model ages over the year, so there's plenty of scope to score yourself a discount.
The best inch MacBook Pro deals
A beast of a MacBook with the launch price to match
CPU: 6-core - 8-core 9th-generation Intel Core i7 – i9 | Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro M – M, Intel UHD Graphics | RAM: 16GB – 64GB | Screen: inch, x Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): x x cm
Incredible display specifications
Massive RAM and SSD configurations
Apple's most powerful MacBook yet
The inch MacBook Pro was released to replace the inch model from earlier in the year, and it does far more than just add some centimeters to the display. Running an 8-core 9th generation i9 processor with 64GB of RAM and an 8TB SSD must feel nice, and while it's exciting that it's possible, that's a spec on its way to setting you back around $5, Nevertheless, this brand new MacBook is capable of blisteringly fast speeds even down to its most humble configuration (the little 6-core 9th gen i9 processor that could).
There are massive specs on offer here, but keeping all that power in place is a larger inch chassis with an improved keyboard and a brighter, more intelligent Retina display. There's a lot going inside, so it's a good thing the inch MacBook Pro also boasts the largest battery capacity of any MacBook ever released, offering up to 11 hours of wireless use. While the battery does support an on-the-go workflow, the MacBook Pro weighs in at a hefty 2kg - and with that extra screen size you might think twice about lugging it around in a backpack all day.
This is no cheap MacBook Pro, but it is an impressive feat of laptop development. While the most powerful configurations are outside the scope of most peoples' wallets, you may be able to find enough loose change to invest in one of the more realistic models. MacBook Pro sales have seen $ - $ being cut off the MSRP as well, so there are deals to be had if you're keen.
The best inch MacBook Pro deals
Slightly cheaper than the inch
CPU: 9th-generation Intel Core i7 – i9 | Graphics: AMD Radeon Pro X – X, Intel UHD Graphics | RAM: 16GB – 32GB | Screen: inch, 2, x 1, Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): x x cm
New 9th-gen i7/i9 processors
Sky-high configurations available
Still fairly expensive
Lacks older ports
The inch MacBook Pro isn't currently on sale at Apple, however you'll still find it on the shelves at a handful of retailers, particularly in the US. The price reflects a cheaper offer than the later inch model, but you're picking up a fair amount of power.
If you've got the cash, the inch Apple MacBook Pro can be configured with up to 32GB of RAM with an 8-core 9th-gen i9 processor. Even the entry model on the Apple store comes packing a 6-core i7, GB SSD and 16GB of RAM.
If you're involved in the creative arts, digital design or engineering, then you might find Apple's latest is more than up to the task of the increasingly demanding apps and programs. Plus, you can save a little over the more expensive inch model as well, which typically offers a much higher cost even in cheap MacBook Pro sales.
The best inch MacBook Pro deals
A cheap mid-range MacBook Pro
CPU: 8th generation i5-i7 | Graphics: Radeon Pro X - Pro Vega 20 | RAM: 8 - 16GB | Screen: inch, x Retina display | Dimensions (H x W x D): x x cm
Mid-range specs for a good price
Touchbar and Retina display
Fairly up to date components
The inch MacBook Pro offers up one of the cheapest ways for entry level buyers to get their hands on a luxury laptop in Prices have dropped nicely now that we're two generations ahead - however stock levels are taking a hit as retailers gradually reduce their shelving space for such an old model. That means there will likely be some healthy MacBook Pro deals on traditionally more expensive configurations, but you might have to hunt to secure stock.
This might still not be considered a cheap MacBook Pro, then, but you will be getting more powerful specs at a price point the newer devices won't be able to match.

The best cheap MacBook deals, sales and prices in October
MacBook deals are much more muted at the start of October after a lot of great offers throughout last month. Where we had previously seen many best-ever prices, things are now much closer to the regular cost for most models. It could be that we'll need to wait until Black Friday until we see the return of the best price of the latest M1 MacBook Air in both the US and the UK.
What if you want to buy today? Well, let's start with that MacBook Air model. It's back to having a standard $50 / £ knocked off the $ / £ price. Sadly, the extra $ discount we saw to bring it down to its lowest price is no longer available at Amazon. We're fully expecting it to make a return over the coming weeks, though.
The brilliant discounts on the larger GB configuration in the US are also no longer available as we enter October. You still won't be paying the full price, but the savings are now $50 less than they were in previous weeks. As for the UK, the price remains the same as it has been for a while now.
That leaves us with the underwhelming deals on the MacBook Pro this week. Previously, a record-low $1, / £1, price was widely available on the entry-level model. They've now jumped up by around $ / £, so you'll have to pay a little extra if you want additional power in your speakers, as well as that all-important touchbar. It might be best to hold off for now.
As soon as anything changes, we'll bring you all the latest cheap MacBook deals right here, so you can pick up a luxury laptop without breaking the bank. Plus, if you're not ready to buy just yet, you may find even more discounts in this year's Black Friday MacBook deals.
We've tracked down the latest offers for every type of Apple laptop out there (as well as the latest cheap MacBook deals on a range of older models that can save you even more cash). That means we've got you covered for the standard inch MacBooks, the 13 and inch MacBook Pros and if you want something that sits between the two, then you'll want to take a look at our MacBook Air section.
You'll find all the best cheap Macbook deals available right now through our price comparison technology, which searches for the lowest prices from the best retailers every day. All you need to do now is work out whether it’s a MacBook, a MacBook Pro or a MacBook Air that you want. We'll help though by telling you about each one of them.
