Halloween will be here before you know it, so if you haven’t found a costume yet, it’s high time to do so. Instead of raiding your closet to go in a hippie Halloween costume or DIY witch costume for the third year in a row, why not consider getting a bit more comical about it? And no, we don’t mean a funny Halloween costume (though that’s cool too). Rather, how about dressing up in a DIY Harley Quinn costume this year?
Harley Quinn's no-nonsense personality paired with her head-turning fashion makes for one seriously good costume idea. Best of all, dressing up as the iconic comic book villain doesn’t have to be difficult (though it certainly can be if you want to put extra elbow grease into your look).
Whether you want to keep it cozy with Harley Quinn-inspired sweats, create the illusion of her knee-high boots, or go all out with a hand-painted Harley Quinn Halloween costume, ahead, you’ll discover some of our favorite takes on the villain’s unforgettable appearance. And if you’re feeling particularly in the Halloween spirit, maybe you can convince your best friend or family members to dress up in a DC getup with you.
This two-in-one dog costume is great for huskies, collies, fluffy & large wolf looking dogs.
Below you will find easy to follow instructions on how to build a Grandma costume from Little Red Riding Hood for your dog.
MATERIALS:
- Shower cap
- Glasses
- U shaped hairband
- Large to extra large womens snap housecoat.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE HAIR BAND AND GLASSES:
- The hairband will ride across the dogs forehead & in front of the ears.
- You want to place the hair band where it will ride comfortably on the head.
- Next, set the glasses where you want them; then mark the hairband with chalk for where to glue it. (Do not use the hot glue gun near your dog!)
- Hot glue the glasses to the hairband where you marked it; then using the cool setting on the hot glue gun attach the shower cap to the hairband on the sides and across the front. Note that if the shower cap elastic makes it too tight for a good fit it can be cut at the back.
- Once the shower cap is glued in place, you can then cut holes in the shower cap for the dogs ears to peek through.
- (Optional: If your dog likes to shake things off his or her head, you can add a piece of elastic across the bottom of the hairband.)
FOR THE HOUSECOAT:
- Buy a large or extra-large womens snap housecoat.
- Put your dogs front paws through the armholes.
- Snap the first few buttons.
Heres a no-sew option:
Tie the bottom corners of the coat together so it does not drag on the ground.
Sew option:
Cut down the middle of the back of the housecoat to size it down to fit the chest diameter of your dog.
If the length is too long it can be cut, sewn or stapled to shorten it.
What a simple but very creative costume idea, Sharon! Thank you for the excellent description as well as the great photos. I was wondering how you were able to get the glasses to stay on and what the clothing was made from!
Well be sharing one of the photos on our home page for November , as well as our Facebook page, and Im sure folks will be circulating them on Pinterest as well.
Since you provided sufficient information as well as pictures with your directions, this will replace part of the Wolf and Red Riding Hood page on our website.
Again thank you for sharing this super costume!

Just like matching Christmas pajamas, family Halloween costumes are guaranteed to be a hit with your whole household. Plus, planning a group Halloween costume takes the stress out of having to come up with several different ones to please everyone in your family. It's a win-win!
If you have movies, TV shows, and books that are family favorites, turn those obsessions with The Wizard of Oz, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, or Stranger Things into a group costume everyone will love! These DIY Halloween costumes are as easy or as involved as you'd like them to be. For instance, the dominoes costume is a great quick idea, while the Alice in Wonderland outfits require some planning. (If you're really pressed for time, check out these last-minute Halloween costumes that can be pulled together super quickly.)
One great thing about these group costumes is that they can all be easily modified to fit your family size. If you're looking for a cute mommy and me outfit, dress up as the insanely sweet bubble bath and loofah! If you have a bigger family, you might want to dress up as Star Wars characters or superheroes. There are plenty of different character combinations to play around with!
While you're making these cute DIY family Halloween costumes, check out these funny dog Halloween costumes to get your pooch in on the celebrating, too. And after you're done trick-or-treating, keep the family fun going with some scary good Halloween desserts and a Halloween movie marathon!
