How to Make Your Own DIY Trailer Hitch Flagpole

Items Needed:

  1. Ball hitch – ensure it can fit into your hitch receiver
  2. 70” galvanized pipe – diameter depends on the hole diameter of your ball hitch
  3. Two end caps – diameter matching the pipe
  4. One nipple – diameter matching the pipe and ball hitch
  5. One coupling – diameter matching the pipe and ball hitch
  6. Two carabiners, zip-ties, or u-ring clamp
  7. Pipe wrench

Steps:

  • Install the ball hitch into the RV flag pole hitch receiver and secure it in place
  • Remove the ball form the hitch if it came attached
  • Then insert the nipple into the ball hitch from the bottom. Use a hammer or mallet to nudge it into place.
  • Install the coupling onto the nipple on the upper side of the hitch and use the pipe wrench to tighten the coupling.
  • Close the bottom side of the nipple using one of the end caps.
  • Use the other end cap to cap the top end of the pipe.
  • Then screw the pipe into the coupling and use the wrench to tighten it.
  • Then proceed to attach the flag onto your new flag pole using the carabiners, zip-ties, or u-ring clamps.

Are Trailer Hitch Flag Poles Legal?

No. But there are guidelines for flying a flag on your truck or trailer that revolve around not inconveniencing your neighbors or fellow drivers. For instance, if your flag is too big and causes other drivers to be obstructed when driving, then you are pretty much committing a road traffic violation.

While most states do not have regulations regarding the mounting of flag poles on trucks, trailers, and other vehicles, obstruction the view of other drivers will get you flagged by traffic police. At the end of the day, you are responsible for maintaining the safety of other drivers with your actions.

The key things you need to consider are the placement of the flag and the size of the flag. Most flag poles are mounted at the rear end of the truck or trailer. Additionally, your flag should not flap onto your driver’s windshield.

The flag should also not drag on the ground or be offensive to other drivers. The display of controversial themed flags is unconstitutional. It should also be embellishment free lest they fly off the flag as you drive.

To ensure you do not violate any laws when flying your flag, you can follow the non-military vehicle guidelines;

  1. Your flag should not be mounted higher than the United States flag.
  2. The flag can be mounted on the roof, rear fender, or passenger side.
  3. The flag should not be half-staffed. It can be furled or secured with a black ribbon when going to a funeral.

Conclusion

The best trailer hitch flag pole should be weather resistant, compatible with most hitch receiver models, and be strong enough to keep your flag flying high. It should also be a one-man mounting and dismounting operation. Not to mention easy to store when it is not in use.

Hitch Flag Pole

I’m buying a hitch flag holder from a guy locally and was curious what type of pole people use to display their flag?

I feel like a wooden one would fail/snap.

What are you all using?

PVC is probably not rigid enough if you are planning on driving with the flag pole mounted. Maybe look into EMT Conduit, if you are looking for a home center grade option

Of course, the wooden one will break. It would help if you had a metal flagpole, and that's all. As far as I know, a wooden flagpole is cheaper, but if there is a strong wind, it can break it, and your flag will fly away, then you will run after it, haha. By the way, my friend recently put the US flag on the territory of his house, and he also added that he bought a Solar Flag Pole Light for beautiful lighting. I am thinking now about buying a flag, and I have a question. Do you need lighting for the US flag? Or is it just a matter of taste? I will be glad if someone answers my question

Building a trailer hitch mount flag pole for under $30

A thunderstorm thundered somewhere nearby, and the rain threatened to cool my ardor. A couple of minutes after the start of our supersonic dry line, I caught the first drop with my snout. The dog, in the last hope of slipping through the rain, squeezed the gas, probably already out of nothing.

Similar news:

It is not known for certain that it was a curse, a rollback of a ritual or something else, but in the end it turned out that in 1 out of. 10 cases a Priestess was born, and in 9 out of 10 Warriors appeared. It seems that everyone should have rejoiced, but gradually, after generations, there were fewer and fewer women capable of giving birth.

Then the Age of Raids began.
