As a bass opera singer and professional voice over artist, I am dedicated to creating a healthy and beautiful sound with my own voice and the voices of my students. I will not come into our lessons saying there is a single way to sing. In fact, many genres require a great deal of varying vocal techniques and stylized voices. What I will do is help to lay a foundation in healthy singing so that you feel comfortable singing any genre. We will start by ensuring that your breath and vowel placement feels comfortable and from there move into repertoire of your choosing or some that I recommend based upon your interests. You will leave your tenure with me empowered to continue your passion and career for singing long after your lessons end. Music is meant to be shared. Together, we will help you to share the music and passion that you hold so dear.

For the past years, my students in private singing lessons have gained a basic understanding of vocal anatomy and become more skilled in correct breathing technique, moving between vocal registers and producing balanced tone. "I have to shout-out to Michelle for the absolutely wonderful in person recital that she organized for students. Every single detail was thought of- most importantly how to keep everyone safe with the pandemic. She and her husband Robert scouted out the most beautiful outdoor location- under a pavilion in set back in a lovely forest preserve. From the top notch sound system to a lovely flower arrangement for each performer, it could not have been a better day. The singers were so happy to have the opportunity to perform live and share with friends and family the progress made over this last year. They both really went above an beyond, and I am so thankful and grateful for all the heart and soul they give to their students. They truly and genuinely care. And, Ill also mention that they figured out a way to effectively teach virtually- and I have made so much progress this last year! I thought I would stall out and almost have to start over, but they kept me going and I could not be happier. Take lessons from them- you will be amazed!"

How to Choose a Voice Teacher in a Baltimore
By OJ S. - Baltimore Voice Teacher
As an experienced voice teacher, I want to share a few tips with you on how to get the most out of your singing lessons in Baltimore by heeding these four criteria when choosing a voice teacher:
Fit. How compatible are you with this teacher? If you want to sing a specific type of music, choose a voice teacher who has at least some experience with that genre or style. Similarly you should choose a teacher who will be supportive of and helpful to someone with your level of experience.
Proximity. Construction combined with congested roads and highways make driving almost impossible during peak travel hours in Baltimore. Keep in mind what day, time of day, where and how you will be traveling to get to your singing lessons in Balti
more. Consider whether or not an in-home lesson would be worth the added expense to avoid those hassles.
Experience. A good voice teacher should have energy, curiosity and commitment to the craft. Fortunately, there is no direct quantifiable correlation between those three characteristics and years of experience, but consider a voice teacher with at least some private lesson experience.
Education. Universities and conservatories are designed to produce professional performers, not vocal pedagogues. Most of the time, a teacher with a Doctor of Musical Arts (DMA) will be overkill for a novice singer. On the other hand, a teacher without at least some formal education or extensive private study may not have a strong enough command of the fundamentals of music to help you achieve your goals.
I hope you find these tips helpful as you embark upon your musical journey to take singing lessons in Baltimore. Good luck!

More Information About Voice Lessons
Training a Healthy Voice
Your voice is only as healthy as your body. That's because you can't sing your best if your body is unhealthy, sick, tired, or stressed. Improve your vocal performance by caring for your physical health. Eat a balanced diet, and drink plenty of water. Quit smoking, don't take illegal drugs, and limit alcohol. Strengthen your core, including your lungs, by performing aerobic exercises every day. Rest your body with a good nights sleep, and reduce stress during the day. You'll also want to rest your voice, which means limiting yelling, cheering, or screaming. To keep you voice healthy, keep your body health.
Adult Voice Lessons
Learn to sing any musical genre or style when you take adult voice lessons. Voice instructors in Musika's network are trained in Country, Classical, Opera, R&B, and many other genres. Teachers can help you choose songs in your favorite genre that fit your vocal tone and range. Then, perfect your technique as you practice controlling your breathing, caring for your vocal cords, and projecting your voice. We may also teach you how to prepare for auditions and improve your on-stage performance. Enjoy adult voice lessons in a teacher's private studio or in the comfort of your home as you improve your singing ability.
What is Taught
During voice lessons you will learn how to use your voice as an instrument, including proper technique for singing, breathing exercises, technical passages to improve your range and tone, and learning to sing specific songs! During your lessons you can learn various styles from classical and opera to R&B. Many students choose to learn songs from artists that are on the radio, as that is the music they enjoy listening to. During lessons you will also learn how to enhance your performance and audition skills, so if you are interested in auditioning for school musicals, community theatre performances, or reality tv competitions, then our network of teachers can definitely help you!

As a vocalist trained in Classical, Jazz, and popular styles of music, I have come to understand that the art of singing is meant to be a highly emotional, physical and intellectual experience. With precise discipline, motivation and perseverance, music can seemingly fall into place. When these elements are united in preparation for a performance, the voice becomes free and the possibilities seem endless. My goal as a an artist and teacher is to discover these boundless possibilities for myself and therefore my students. To best do this, I have adopted an adaptive and collaborative style of teaching. Voice Instructor
My goal is to share my 30 years of experience as a voice teacher and performer with singers of diverse music backgrounds. From beginner to professional – all will benefit from individualized vocal training. I work with adults of all ages and teens ages 12 and above.
I teach in a professional studio in a Victorian House in Baltimore Maryland, equipped with a grand piano, recording equipment and acoustic guitar. The studio is a nurturing place where I will help you realize your goals. The focus is on addressing the total singer. Lessons include instruction on body alignment, relaxation, breathing, tone quality and projection, range and register transitions, diction, ear-training, musicianship and theory. I have an extensive performing background, and feel comfortable teaching all styles of music. I’ve received advanced training in teaching Contemporary Commercial Vocal Technique styles including Belting. Students will benefit from audition and performance preparation. I have the contacts and the resources to provide students with information about performing and audition opportunities, and I make every effort possible to attend student performances. If you need help in the recording studio or rehearsals, I am available as a consultant.
At your first lesson we will discuss goals, intended music styles and previous training. We will assess skills and devise a unique plan to help you achieve your dreams.
Services Offered:
- Vocal Technique and Training for Singers
- Vocal Technique/Coaching/Repertoire for Broadway and Musical Theatre Singers
- Vocal Technique/Coaching/Repertoire for The Voice and other singing competitions.
- Songwriting Lessons
- Piano for singers and songwriters
- Online Group Masterclasses
The vocal exercises used in lessons are available by download.

STUDENT REVIEWS
VOICE lessons
All voice and singing lessons are taught as private, one-on-one music instruction and are available in lengths of 30, 45, and 60 minutes. We suggest kids between the ages of begin with minute lessons and progress to longer lengths as your teacher recommends. For adults and students over the age of 12, we recommend starting with or minute lessons, especially if you have some previous experience with singing.
KIDS & TEENAGERS
Since the voice changes with age, we recommend beginning voice lessons no earlier than 8 years old. While young voices have not reached maturation, students can still learn many signing essentials, such as pitch recognition, rhythm, breathing, note reading, and songs written specifically for young singers. The voice changes in girls and boys between the ages of 8 and 17, which is why it is typically best to begin vocal study after the voice has begun to change. Teenage voice students focus on proper technique, producing good tone, note reading, and aural training. Repertoire is selected to suit each student’s needs and interests.
ADULTS
Voice lessons for adults will include focus on proper technique, producing good tone, note reading, aural training, discussion of vocal anatomy, and introduction to singing in different languages. Repertoire is selected to suit each student’s needs and interests.
