This event helps to raise funds for two very worthy and needy local charities: The Alcoa Educational Foundation, and the Blount County Parks and Rec Scholarship Fund for youth enrichment. By registering, you are helping to make a positive difference for these worthy children and young adults.
The course is a fairly flat, paved, generally eight foot wide greenway that is lit at night time. For those who prefer a softer surface, there is grass along side some of the trail. It meanders along the Pistol Creek (hence the name for the event), through Alcoa, by several small bodies of water, and over to Maryville’s Bicentennial Greenbelt Park. It is a linear route with a lollipop at both ends and is a bit over 5 miles long.
Course Highlights
The 50K runners will run 3 complete, identical loops. They will have a short out-n-back spur on the "Associates Trail" on the right about miles into the course. Then they will continue on past the Woody Aid Station and clockwise all the way around the loop in front of the Maryville Greenbelt Amphitheater. Then continue back up past the Woody Aid Station to the Start/Finish line. Then continue up around the upper loop and back to the Start/Finish line. This is one complete mile loop.
The 50 miler runners will run 5 complete, identical mile loops. They will continue on the main Greenway Trail all the way down past the the Woody Aid Station and turn around where the 50 miler turnaround signage is near the Maryville Greenbelt Amphitheater. Then continue back up past the Woody Aid Station to the Start/Finish line. Then continue up around the upper loop and back to the Start/Finish line.
The K runners will run 6 complete, identical loops, the same loops as the 50K runners are doing.
The hundo runners complete 10 full, identical loops, the same loops as the 50 milers, and they're done!
