OPI Iceland Collection – Fall/Winter 2017
Press Sample | Affiliate Links
Greetings lovely readers! How is this week treating you so far? Lately, I’ve been feeling wiped out. I’m guessing it’s because I have to get up early again since school is back in session. It’s never easy for those of us that are night owls! Anyway, I’ve finally gotten around to swatching the OPI Iceland Collection, and boy is it gorgeous. This collection is for fall and winter and there are plenty of colors to help make the transition easy.
The latest collection from OPI contains 6 cremes, 2 shimmers, and 1 metallic shade. With each shade, application was a breeze and pigmentation was great. I had no issues whatsoever. Of course, with OPI we have the great and unique polish names that we’ve come to expect. However, I’ll be going into a little more detail, a bit of Iceland facts, if you will, with most of the polishes here. I just wanted to add a bit more fun & knowledge to your standard nail polish swatch post. 🙂
OPI Iceland Collection
I’LL HAVE A GIN & TECTONIC
I’ll Have a Gin & Tectonic is a warm peach cream.
– Gin is a popular spirit in Iceland. Also, Iceland is probably the only place in the world where the effects of two major tectonic plates drifting apart can easily be observed above sea level.
ICELANDED A BOTTLE OF OPI
Icelanded a Bottle of OPI is a neutral taupe/gray
ONE HECKLA OF A COLOR!
One Heckla Of A Color! is a warm, lilac purple.
– Heckla is a stratovolcano in the south of Iceland with a height of 4,892 ft.
Krona-Logical Order is a cool, dark brown.
– The Icelandic Króna is the currency of Iceland.
THIS ISN’T GREENLAND
This Isn’t Greenland is a pistachio green creme.
LESS IS NORSE
Less Is Norse is a cool navy blue creme.
– Norse is a religion that refers to traditions of the Norsemen prior to the Christianization of Scandinavia, specifically during the Viking Age. Also, Old Norse is a medieval North Germanic language attested in Norway and Iceland.
Aurora Berry-Alis is a warm berry/pink.
– A play on the word Aurora Borealis, which is a natural light display in the sky, predominantly seen in the high latitude (Arctic and Antarctic) regions.
CHECK OUT THE OLD GEYSIRS
Check Out The Old Geysirs is a cool sky blue with a very slight shimmer. (I really only notice it in the bottle.)
– The formation of the Great Geysir was discovered in 1294 when a violent earthquake shook Iceland’s southern lowlands, altering the geothermal area in the valley of Haukadalur.
SUZI & THE ARTIC FOX
Suzi & The Arctic Fox is a midnight blue creme.
– Well, we all know that Suzi is the founder of OPI! Also, the arctic fox is an incredibly hardy animal that can survive frigid Arctic temperatures as low as –58°F.
TURN ON THE NORTHERN LIGHTS!
Turn On The Northern Lights! is a deep purple base with magenta shimmer throughout.
– The Northern Lights (aka Aurora Borealis) are very common in Iceland where residents can enjoy them readily from late August until the end of April.
REYKJAVIK HAS ALL THE HOT SPOTS
Reykjavik Has All The Hot Spots is a medium pink metallic.
– Yup, Reykjavik is the capital and largest city in Iceland, making it a great tourist destination.
THAT’S WHAT FRIENDS ARE THOR
OPI That’s What Friends Are Thor is a warm, milk chocolate brown.
– Thor was one of the most important and famous gods in Norse mythology. He was considered the storm-weather god of sky and thunder and also a fertility god.
Overall, I think this is a great, solid collection with fantastic names that were well thought out. I hope you enjoyed the fun little tidbits of information I decided to add! A few of my favorites are: Turn On the Northern Lights! (of course), Icelanded a Bottle of OPI, Less Is Norse, and This Isn’t Greenland.
→ The OPI Iceland Collection polishes are $10.50/ea. and you can find them now at Ulta.com!

I'll Have A Gin & Tectonic:
A gorgeous smoky peach cream, I'll Have A Gin & Tectonic has a slightly sheer formulation. Two coats are opaque enough if you apply carefully but I needed a third coat on a couple of nails to attain a completely even coverage.
|OPI Iceland | I'll Have A Gin & Tectonic | Two to Three Coats with No Top Coat|
This is a unique pale mossy green-beige cream. The formulation seems a bit sheer with the first coat but with a second coat, the coverage is even and opaque.
|OPI Iceland | This Isn't Greenland | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
A shimmery rosy mauve, this shade is decently pigmented and fairly streak-free. I used two coats for the swatches below.
|OPI Iceland | Reykjavik Has All the Hot Spots | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
One of my favorite shades out of the collection, One Heckla of A Color is a gorgeous dusty purple cream. The formulation is very rich and pigmented; I used two coats for the swatches below.
|OPI Iceland | One Heckla of A Color | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
Another favorite of my, Aurora Berry-alis is a creamy dusty rose. The formulation is winner; it's pigmented, rich, and super self-leveling.
|OPI Iceland | Aurora Berry-alis | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
A pale icy blue with a hint of gray, Check Out the Old Geysirs has a subtle sprinkling of super fine shimmers. I thought the pigmentation might be very sheer but this shade is actually rich and buttery. I used two coats for the swatches below.
|OPI Iceland | Check Out the Old Geysirs | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
Another one of my favorites, Less is Norse is a deep dusty blue cream. The formulation is pigmented and smooth.
|OPI Iceland | Less is Norse | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
This is a stunning dark denim blue with a very subtle splash of iridescent orange/gold micro-shimmers. The formulation is a little sheer but still opaque in two coats. I wish the shimmers are more noticeable but the color is very unique.
|OPI Iceland | Turn On the Northern Lights! | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
This is a neutral taupe-greige cream that's pretty similar to the recent Chanel "578 New Dawn". Icelanded A Bottle of OPI appears cooler in the swatches here because of the lighting I used but the two shades are essentially dupes. The formulation is a little sheer but two coats are enough for a mostly opaque coverage.
|OPI Iceland | Icelanded a Bottle of OPI | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
A dusty chocolate brown, this is a nice and pigmented cream with a smooth and buttery formulation.
|OPI Iceland | That's What Friends are Thor | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
A cool-tone dark chocolate cream, Krona-logical Order is another pigmented and buttery shade.
|OPI Iceland | Krona-logical Order | Two Coats with No Top Coat|
This is a dark and dusty indigo-purple. The color is pretty unique and the formulation is very nice and pigmented.
|OPI Iceland | Suzi & The Arctic Fox | Two Coats with No Top Coat|

OPI Iceland Fall 2017 Collection
Ok everyone, I’m really excited about tonight’s post. This is the first time in a long time that I was absolutely in LOVE with an entire OPI collection, application and all! Which collection? Well the OPI Iceland Fall 2017 Collection of course!
First off, a few months ago I joined a new network that is specifically geared toward Instagram and Youtube more than the physical blog. While I love my blog, sometimes I get a little overwhelmed when work is busier and my son’s schedule is all over the place. The network is Octoly (for those curious) and it allows me to try out new brands and do mini reviews or features on my Instagram account. When I saw Octoly had the OPI Iceland Collection up for grabs, I applied right away and here it is!
Yeah I know I swatch for OPI usually, but I haven’t gotten the press release for this collection yet, and I didn’t want to miss out!
So thanks to OPI and Octoly – I have it here to share!
When I was going through the bottles on Tuesday, I was pleasantly surprised to see 2 stunning shimmers in this collection, and a nice assortment of cremes in shades I don’t really see much. As a whole, I found this collection incredibly well done and beautiful. It really got me into the Fall palette and excited for what’s to come in the next few months!
Much like the last couple OPI Collections I received, these are in the Infinite Shine formula, which I tend to like a bit better than the normal formulas. The brush is perfection for me too! Wide, flat brushes with slightly rounded ends.
Ok I’ll shut up now and show you the goods. I present to you the OPI Iceland Fall 2017 Collection! BOOM!
OPI Aurora Berry-alis is a slightly dusty pink leaning berry creme. This was almost a 1 coater, but I did 2 for these photos.
OPI Check Out The Old Geysirs is one of the gorgeous shimmers in this collection. This is a super grayed out blue creme base packed with vibrant blue shimmer that actually as a slight violet shift at extreme angles. The formula was a touch on the thick side, but not difficult to work with. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Icelanded A Bottle Of OPI is a super creamy cafe latte neutral. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI I’ll Have A Gin and Tectonic is a peach creme with a touch of beige to it. Peach shades usually give me super lobster hands, but this one was mellowed out enough that it worked with my skin tone. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Krona-logical Order is a dusty espresso brown, but it has a touch of rose in it. It’s not a straight espresso. Very nicely done. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Less Is Norse is a dusty deep navy blue creme. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI One Heckla Of A Color! is a medium dusty mauve with grape purple tones. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI Reykjavik Has All The Hot Spots is a deep almost bronzey rose metallic shimmer. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos. Brush strokes are visible, but that’s to be expected with this type of finish.
OPI Suzi And The Arctic Fox is an interesting shade and I kind of fell in love with it. It’s a super deep dusty greyish-bluish-eggplant creme. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
OPI That’s What Friends Are Thor is a deep, warm chocolatey brown. I used 2 easy coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This is one of those shades that when I saw the bottle I thought “Ugh.” Then I put it on and was like “Ohh!” it actually looked really good on.
OPI This Isn’t Greenland is a creamy, slightly dusty pea green with tinges of yellow. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
I saved the best for last! OPI… this color is incredible! OPI Turn On The Northern Lights! is a gorgeous deep indigo almost jelly-like base and has red to copper shifting shimmer in it. I used 2 coats and a glossy top coat for these photos.
This truly might be my favorite OPI collection of 2017. The formulas are near perfect. OPI Check Out The Old Geysirs was the only shade a touch on the thick side, but other than that one shade, they were all perfection. I also really love the color palette they went with and find all 12 shades wearable for me. The shimmers were by far the standouts though! I want MORE of these types OPI! They completely nailed them. The shimmer didn’t disappear on the nail and they are so beautiful.
This is the Infinite Shine formula for this collection, if you want to check out the normal lacquer formula – Karen over at ManiGeek has them up! She and I generally have the same formula preferences, so I trust her thoughts on the normal lacquer reviews.
My Top Picks: Turn On The Northern Lights!, Check Out The Old Geysirs, This Isn’t Greenland, Less Is Norse and Suzi And The Arctic Fox
Price: $12.50 Each

OPI ICELAND SWATCHES & REVIEW FW 2017 COLLECTION
Greetings friends!! Let’s take a trip! Let’s take it to Iceland! It's no-night summer there right now, with temps that can hit about 25°C – and drop to 10°C, so you should bring a sweater. Or, we can be armchair travellers with OPI, no passport necessary!
All 12 OPI Iceland Collection FW 2017 shades available in GelColor, Infinite Shine, and OPI Lacquer? Amazing! But you know I only have the regular lacquer shades to share today, right? Because that’s what I bought from SparkleCanada.com as soon as they were available! Wanna see ‘em? Yeah, I know you do!
opi Iceland 2017 collection swatches & review
OPI I’ll Have a Gin & Tectonic – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Right off the bat I gotta tell you this was one of only three 3-coat shades in the whole collection. It’s a lovely peachy neutral that I’m sure we’ve all seen before. She dries down a touch darker than the bottle, but oddly, she doesn’t pull lobster. I’ll bet that means most people can wear this shade! At 3 coats though…
OPI Aurora Berry-alis – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Running out the door for an evening function, you could totally slap on a single coat and get away with it. It’s better with 2 though. And this formula? It’s beautiful. I like the colour too. It seems oddly out of place in this collection but the dusty tone fairly tugs at Nick’s wallet.
OPI Reykjavik Has All The Hot Spots – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Unnhhhh! Lookit dat! Sure it’s 3 coats but don’t forget my coats are probably ½ as thin as most. I didn’t really neeeed to do 3 but to minimize streaks and get this perfect finish, it was called for. I just do what the polish tells me to do, really. And unnhhhh… lookit dat! #GrabbyHands.
OPI Icelanded a Bottle of OPI – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). 2 coats. What? 2 coats. Really? Yes, 2 coats. This is one heckuva stunning formula. Of late, OPI hasn’t been making formulas that are easy for me to use, but if they start making everything like this again, they'll easily rekindle my OPI love.
OPI That’s What Friends Are Thor – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Wow. That dries a lot darker than the bottle, huh? I don’t care though because… 2 coats! 2! Whaat? These formulas! Where have you been, OPI? I’ve missed you! Welcome back!
OPI Krona-logical Order – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Yes, it’s another brown, but hey, if you haven’t heard, Suzi says “black is the new black.” What does that even mean? It means shades that have a bunch of black in ‘em are trending for the Fall/Winter 2017 season. This shade? Beautiful. The formula is a wee bit thinner than That’s What Friends Are Thor, but it’s still just 2 coats to this more mauve-y shade of espresso. Do I like? Yes. I like.
OPI This Isn’t Greenland – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). Surprise! Pastel pistachio green! It takes a little getting used to, but after looking at it for about 30 seconds, I think this is a brilliant shade for Fall. I did have to do 3 coats to get it perfect, but for a shade that’s not-so-common, I’m down with that.
OPI One Heckla of a Color! – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). My notes here say “super formula heart heart heart. Dries darker & is hard to catch perfectly but this is close – just a little more dusty grape.” Why so hard to catch in photos, Manigeek? I don’t know. I tried though. You know I did. Besides, it says “heart heart heart” – that’s all you really need to know, ain’t it? Hahahahaaaa!! Get shoppin’!
OPI Check Out The Old Geysirs – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). That’s 2 coats, but I think my bottle could probably have used a drop of thinner. It did level though, and that shine from the shimmer is pretty swell, but I’m not sure I absolutely love the shade on me. Does it conjure up Iceland? You betcha!
OPI Less is Norse – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). OPI is calling this their “Hero Shade”. What’s a “hero shade,” you ask? Well, it’s the shade they want you to focus on. And you know what? There’s nothing I can tell you about this shade that you can’t see from this photo. Nothing. I mean really, that right there is OPI perfection. Absolutely. Unquestionably. One jillion percent.
OPI Suzi & The Arctic Fox – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). 2 coats to this dustastical navy purple. Dear OPI, it’s so good. Thank you.
OPI Suzi & The Arctic Fox w/ Color Club Femme Fatale Top Coat (above). I know you’re thinking that Suzi & das Fox was already pretty swell, but this topper was on my desk. When stuff is on my desk, things happen. It’s kinda great, ain’t it?
OPI Turn On The Northern Lights! – OPI Iceland 2017 (above). It’s 2 coats, it’s good, and it’s interesting. I thought it was going to be blue, and on the first coat it was. Then, on the 2nd coat I got this indigo purple with pink shimmer. It’s lovely.
OPI Turn on the Northern Lights! w Top Coat (above). If you add a coat of top, the shimmer really pops out and adds serious depth and serious magic. For OPI and their heavy focus on standard crèmes, this is absolutely a step in the right direction.
And that’s all she wrote! I think if you’ve been hangin’ with me here for other OPI things, you’ve seen that I’ve become somewhat disillusioned by their recent offerings. If it hasn’t been the complete boredom, it’s been issues with formulas. This collection wipes a lot of that away and even though I can’t say it’s an entirely cohesive collection, It’s on target for Fall. There are some things in here that I haven’t seen done as well as this in a long, long time.
Iceland 2017 Fall/Winter made me happy – an OPI collection hasn’t done that since… golly, I don’t remember when.
Availability: Right! Lemme tell you again where I got mine! It’s from SparkleCanada.com and is in stock right, right now. I don’t know what the actual release date is but I’ve heard rumours it’s available from a bunch of online places south of the border. In a little while I’m sure you’ll be able to get it at ulta.com, amazon.com, and probably amazon.ca too. Oh yeah, and watch for prices to have gone up. If it hasn't happened yet, it's happening soon. *insert sad face here*.
Can we talk about the collection now? Can we talk about how the above OPI Iceland promo shot isn't even close? Can we? Can we? Huh? Or can we just talk about your thoughts on the shades I showed you? Yeah! Let's do that!
Oooh! Score! I got a special #NailMail delivery of one of the three Iceland Ulta exclusives! It's OPI Rebel Without a Moss (above) and it's 2 easy coats to perfect.
Oh, and if you're dreaming of really taking a trip to Iceland, check out J's post about her visit via Wow Air.

OPI FIJI 2017 COLLECTION SNEAK PEEK
*This is our sneak peek post from last year but here's your link to our OPI Fiji Collection 2017 Swatch & Review Post! Come on over, friends!
Guess what!!! It’s your first (unofficial) look at OPI Fiji Spring/Summer 2017! I know, right? It’s only September 2016, but wanna see what showed up on the world wide web last week? Yeah, I know you do!
Similar to the OPI Holiday 2016 Breakfast at Tiffany’s collection, the OPI 2017 Fiji Collection looks like it’s going to have all 12 shades in regular nail polish, Infinite Shine, and GelColor.
Know what else? Looking at it as a complete collection of shades, it looks remarkably cohesive and really kinda playful.
Early shots show it comes in at 11 crèmes and 1 shimmer. Apparently, there’s gonna be a 4-shade mini pack too. While they all seem similar to stuff we’ve seen before, we have to remember that promo shots (especially unofficial ones like these) don’t tell the whole story. Let’s be patient, yes?
I’m barely into Holiday 2016 so for me, this leak is still a little too early. In a few months when when I’m knee-deep in snow, I’ll be really, really looking forward to pretend-going to Fiji.
If it's too early for you too, here's the OPI holiday 2016 collection to peruse again.
You? Your first thoughts?

How lucky I was in my choice of mistresses. She, too, felt something, or she and Sarah came to an agreement, so they did not dismount me on the days when it was their turn. And I really got attached to both of them, without noticing it myself. There were also hikes that took place about once every couple of months.
