The Orange County Sheriff’s Office recently made three arrests as part of a drug bust coordinated with several other agencies.
A release from the sheriff’s office said search warrants conducted on July 6 and July 7 at a Mebane and a Burlington residence resulted in the collection of three kilograms of cocaine. Authorities also seized 1.2 lbs of marijuana, 30 oxycodone pills, 32 Suboxone strips, six firearms, more than two doze THC vape cartridges and “a large amount of currency.”
53-year-old Jorge Eduardo Chavez Alonzo of Haw River and 47-year-old John Smith II of Mebane each face charges of trafficking in cocaine and conspiracy to traffic in cocaine. 47-year-old Alvorn Turner of Mebane faces those same charges, as well as three counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, charges for possession with intent to sell and distribute controlled substances, maintaining a dwelling for the sale of controlled substances and others.
Orange County deputies and officials coordinated with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office, the State Bureau of Investigations and the Alamance Narcotics Enforcement Team, according to Monday’s release.
“These arrests and seizures are the result of effective multi-agency coordination, and we are grateful to have such strong partnerships to protect the people in this region of the state,” said Orange County Sheriff Charles Blackwood. “I’d like to particularly note the efforts of the Strike teams from Alamance and Orange Counties. Strike Teams focus on violent crime, high risk felonies, and drug distribution networks. These cases obviously had elements of all three, and we are pleased to have disrupted their activities to such an extent.”
Alonzo and Smith each have $150,000 secured bonds, while Turner is being held under an $80,000 secured bond.
