Yellowstone 1883 trailer

Yellowstone 1883 trailer DEFAULT

If you’re a Yellowstone fan, good news is coming your way. Yes, the main series is coming back for Season 4, but it looks like we’ll be seeing much more of the Dutton family; A prequel to the popular series is currently in the works.

Created and produced by Taylor Sheridan, a co-creator of Yellowstone and writer of movies like Hell or High Water, Wind River, and Sicario, the prequel, titled Y: 1883 will explore where the Dutton family got its start. Since the already-popular Yellowstone hit all-time popularity highs with its Season 3 in 2020, we expect some excitement for what’s in store. Here’s everything we know so far about Y: 1883.

What will Y:1883 be about?

A teaser for the new series aired during Super Bowl LV. The clip featured an unknown voice that says, “I don’t care if you live or die. But should you live… you tell them about me,” leaving fans with no real expectations. But according to a recent statement from Paramount, Y: 1883 will follow the Dutton family’s attempt to flee poverty and seek a better life in Montana, traveling across the Great Plains in a retelling of Western expansion.

Who will be in the show?

According to Hollywood Reporter, Sam Elliott, Faith Hill, and Tim McGraw are set to star in the spin-off series. And honestly, they couldn't have cast it better.

Elliott will play as Shea Brennan, a cowboy with an unfortunate past who's tasked with leading a group from Texas to Montana. McGraw and Hill will play James and Margaret Dutton, in an obvious connection to the original show's present-day Dutton family.

Naturally, Elliott says he's excited for the role and says the Western genre speaks to "The classic struggles of man against man, man against nature, and man against himself. It’s all there, in 1883, and I’m honored to be a part of it.”

Men's Health

When is Y:1883's release date?

You'll have to wait long, but not too long. Deadline reports fans can see the Dutton patriarch and matriarch traverse the West on Dec. 19 on Paramount+. That's a month after the original series debuts its fourth season. Which means we'll get a full winter of saddle-riding, cowboy boot-wearing Dutton drama to keep us warm.

Hopefully we get a trailer soon to hold us over.

Paramount

How can I watch Y: 1883?

Although the original Yellowstone is available to stream through NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service (and airs first run on TV's Paramount Network (check your local listings)), Y: 1883 is taking a different route. The series will premiere exclusively on Paramount+, the new streaming service that launched earlier this year . The service is available for subscribers through a $5.99/month plan with limited commercials or $9.99/month plan with no commercials.

Yellowstone has released a new trailer for its upcoming Season 4, and things are not looking good for one of the characters who was left hanging at the end of Season 3.

Season 3 ended with multiple cliffhangers as the Dutton family came under concerted attack on multiple fronts. John Dutton (Kevin Costner) fell to the ground after getting shot in the chest, Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) looked like she might have gotten blown up by a package bomb and Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes) was attacked by gunmen who burst into his office and opened fire.

The fate of one of the ranch hands on the Dutton ranch, Jimmy (Jefferson White), was also unclear as Season 3  drew to a close, after he was thrown from a horse not long after being released from the hospital after sustaining serious injury by trying to be a rodeo rider. In a new Season 4 trailer released on Friday (Oct. 1), the scene flashes back to Jimmy promising John Dutton he will not rodeo anymore, but he did not keep that promise. He got back on the horse at the behest of his love interest, Mia, who told him, "When I saw you rodeo, I saw a really happy man."

She's seen sobbing over his motionless body in the new trailer, which also provides further glimpses into the upcoming season.

"There's two roads in life," ranch foreman Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser) rumbles in an ominous-sounding voiceover. "One is you’re winning or learning. The other is you’re losing. All the way to the grave."

Whether Jimmy loses all the way to the grave remains to be seen, but it's not hard to guess that John Dutton won't be happy with him ... if Dutton himself survives, that is. Previous trailers have hinted at the fate of certain characters, but this much is clear: the Duttons' revenge will be swift and terrible, and people who wronged them will die.

Yellowstone has become the most-watched show on cable television since it debuted in 2018. Its success has spawned two upcoming spinoffs. Yellowstone: 666 has been announced, but few details are available. More interesting to country music fans is 1883, which stars Tim McGraw and Faith Hill as James and Margaret Dutton, John Dutton's great-grandparents.

1883 follows their family as they head West on a difficult trek from Texas to Montana, where they will end up establishing the ranch that serves as the setting for the original show. The show also stars Sam Elliott, and Billy Bob Thornton will appear in a guest role.

The Paramount Network has announced that 1883 will premiere on Dec. 19, while Yellowstone Season 4 will air on the Paramount Network and Paramount+ beginning Nov. 7. Subscribe to the streaming service to make sure you don't miss out.

'Yellowstone' Spin-Off Air Date, Cast, Trailer, Plot: What We Know About Prequel '1883'

Yellowstone is getting two spin-offs in the coming years, with prequel 1883 and spin-off 6666 coming to Paramount+ while the mothershow remains the most-watched series on cable.

Paramount+ has announced the first details about Y: 1883, which tells the stories of an earlier generation of the Dutton family, who are migrating from Texas and Montana.

The cast and plot details for the hotly-anticipated Yellowstone prequel have started to be revealed, so here is what we know so far.

Who is in the cast of Y: 1883?

In the role of husband and wife James and Margaret Dutton are a real married couple—and country music legends. James will be played by Tim McGraw, while Margaret is Faith Hill. McGraw has starred in films like The Blind Side, Four Christmases and the movie version of Friday Night Lights. Hill's only credits as an actor are in the 2004 reboot of The Stepford Wives and the 2017 drama Dixieland.

Alongside these less-experienced actors is an Oscar nominee with over 100 credits to his name. A Star is Born and The Ranch actor Sam Elliott will play show lead Shea Brennan.

What is the Yellowstone prequel about?

The official Paramount+ synopsis for the show reads: "1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America's promised land — Montana." A Deadline article also hinted this group would quickly come into conflict with the Native Americans whose land they are displacing.

Leading that journey will be Elliott's "tough as nails, handsome cowboy with immense sadness in his past," who is leading a group across the U.S.

When the show was announced in February of this year, the show was called a "stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America's promised land — Montana" by The Hollywood Reporter.

Is there a release date or trailer for Y: 1883?

Filming is not thought to have begun on Y: 1883, meaning that so far we do not have an idea of when the show is coming out or when a trailer will drop.

It seems likely that 1883 will come at some point in spring 2022. This would follow the release date of Yellowstone season 4, which per Deadline is coming to The Paramount Network in November 2021. The first trailer for season 4 said the original show was airing in fall 2021.

That same Deadline article reports that production on 1883 is set to begin in late summer 2021, meaning that it is likely to start shooting soon.

Yellowstone's 1883 Prequel: Updated Cast List Including Tim McGraw

After the relatively instant and consistent success of Paramount Network’s marquee drama series Yellowstone, ViacomCBS surprised no one (but pleased many) by renewing its partnership with co-creator Taylor Sheridan, who is in the process of expanding the fictional universe with the prequel 1883, among other projects. Led by Kevin Costner, Yellowstone’s mothership ensemble cast is as stacked with talent as it gets, so fans can definitely expect for its first spinoff to carry suit in that department when it hits the Paramount+ streaming service in December.

Below, we’re keeping an updated list of all the major cast members that have been announced for Yellowstone’s origin story (of sorts) 1883, with a pair of Grammy-winning country music artists in the lead roles. As well, any character information that has been revealed will be included, so let’s dive into this look back into the Dutton family’s past for their all-important and big-budgeted trip across America

 Sam Elliott (Shea Brennan)

A Hollywood legend by any stretch of the word, Sam Elliott has an abundance of noteworthy roles across his stellar career, from The Big Lebowski’s The Stranger to his Oscar-nominated turn in 2018’s A Star Is Born. But he’s also long been familiar with TV work as well, having starred in the original Mission: Impossible series, with more recent memorable roles in Justified and The Ranch, among others. Amusingly enough, he’ll be complementing his work on 1883 with a role opposite Will Forte in the MacGruber TV series.

Sam Elliott will be integral to the Yellowstone prequel in the role of Shea Brennan, a brick-tough cowboy who doesn’t take shit from anyone, especially when the stakes are high, as it goes during a wagon-train trek from Texas to Montana. Shea will be the guide for that group, which includes the Dutton family ancestors mentioned lower, but viewers can also expect to see the character suffering intense sadness due to an unknown incident in his past.

Tim McGraw (James Dutton)

Though the Louisiana-born Tim McGraw may be best known for his country hits coming out of Nashville, he has also developed something of a steady acting career as the years have gone by, with some of his most notable roles coming in films such as Friday Night Lights and The Blind Side. 2017’s The Shack was McGraw’s most recent acting role prior to being cast in 1883, but there’s a good chance his debut as a TV lead will eclipse everything else he’s accomplished in the fictional realm.

For 1883, Tim McGraw will take on some hefty familial baggage in portraying James Dutton, the great-grandfather of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. Details are light at this point when it comes to James’ personality and, well, everything else, but McGraw himself has taken to sharing social media posts with set details that fans can glean info from. For instance, it looks like James might be something of a gunfighter.

Faith Hill (Margaret Dutton)

While not quite as established an actor as her husband Tim McGraw, Faith Hill has taken on a handful of fictional roles in her music-heavy career, most notably for The Stepford Wives remake and 2017’s Dixieland. She’s no stranger to unscripted projects, either, having been a judge for CBS’ talent competition The World’s Best and also serving as a storytelling source for the 2019 documentary Bluebird.

Within the world of 1883, we know that Faith Hill will portray Margaret Dutton, wife of James and great-grandmother of John Dutton. Unfortunately, we don’t even have very many social media posts to theorize about when it comes to Margaret’s character or her motivations. One can only assume, however, that anyone whose lineage leads to Kelly Reilly’s Beth Dutton has fire and brimstone running through her veins.

Isabel May (Elsa Dutton)

20-year-old Isabel May’s acting career only goes back a few years, but when one of those roles is a recurring gig on CBS’ Big Bang Theory prequel Young Sheldon and another is a lead role in Netflix’s Alexa & Katie (she played Katie), it’s clear she’s destined to hit success rather quickly. And that should be helped along by upcoming roles in feature comedies I Want You Back and The Moon & Back

What’s a family story without some children in that family, amirite? Isabel May will take on the role of Elsa Dutton, the eldest daughter within that traveling Dutton clan at the heart of 1883. It can be assumed that she’ll serve as John Dutton’s grandmother, though that could technically be disproven if other casting announcements reveal Elsa has a sister.

LaMonica Garrett (Thomas)

For superhero TV fans, LaMonica Garrett is no doubt best known for helping break open the Arrowverse’s multiverse on The CW as The Monitor and The Anti-Monitor. He’s also known for trying to keep people safe in other TV shows such as Designated Survivor and The Last Ship. 2021 has been a solid year for Garrette, also, as he’s popped up across OWN’s Delilah, NBC’s Brooklyn Nine-Nine for its final season, and Fox’s Fantasy Island. He also landed a recurring role opposite Chris Pratt in Amazon’s upcoming action drama The Terminal List based on the novel from Jack Carr.

Expect to see another leadership-geared performance from LaMonica Garrett in 1883 as Thomas, who is both a Pinkerton agent on the grand scale, and a right-hand man to Sam Elliott’s Shea Brennan on a small scale. It should be interesting to see how the racial politics play out for his role, given the time frame and the character’s multiple points of authority.

Billy Bob Thornton (Jim Courtright)

The Oscar-winning Billy Bob Thornton is largely known for his extensive film career, which is highlighted by hits such as Sling Blade, Armageddon, Bad Santa and many more. He even co-starred with Tim McGraw in Friday Night Lights. That said, Thornton dove into TV in a big way in 2014 with a starring role in Fargo’s first season and a guest-starring role in The Big Bang Theory, and that success led to his starring role as Billy McBride in David E. Kelley’s Amazon legal drama Goliath

Billy Bob Thornton won’t be around 1883 for the long haul, I’m sorry to say, as he’ll be showing up in a guest-starring capacity for the role of Marshal Jim Courtright. That’s about all the info there is for the role, so it’s not entirely clear if Courtright is located in Texas or elsewhere, nor how long audiences can expect to see him. Though I guess if the prequel series is meant to cross most of the country in order to get to their eventual family ranch in Montana, there isn’t much time for the characters to stick around and meet new people.

With YellowstoneSeason 4 hitting Paramount Network on November 7, 1883 is set to expand the western horizons on Sunday, December 19, when it debuts on Paramount+, though the first episode will also be simulcast on the linear network. Be sure to check out everything hitting the small screen between now and then with our 2021 Fall TV schedule

His love for his wife and daughters is almost equaled by his love of gasp-for-breath laughter and gasp-for-breath horror. A lifetime spent in the vicinity of a television screen led to his current dream job, as well as his knowledge of too many TV themes and ad jingles.

Yellowstone 1883 - Yellowstone is Finally Getting a Spinoff Series (Everything You Need to Know!)

Saddle up, Yellowstone fans: There's even more Dutton family drama coming our way.

Shortly after Yellowstone's incredibly successful third season, Paramount+ announced an all-new prequel series that will show the Dutton family got their start in Montana. Aptly titled 1883, the show will take Yellowstone fans back more than 130 years, giving deeper insight into the man that John Dutton is and why he loves his family's ranch so much.

While there aren't too many details available at this time, keep reading to find out everything we know about 1883 so far.

When is the release date for 1883?

Yellowstone fans, you have a busy few months ahead of you. Following the show's season 4 premiere on Sunday, November 7, Paramount Network will offer an exclusive look at the other shows in the Dutton universe, including 1883. Luckily, you won't have to wait too long to watch it in full: 1883 will premiere on Sunday, December 19 on Paramount+.

Who will be in the 1883 cast?

So far, we only know that Tim McGraw, Faith Hill and Sam Elliott will lead the show. Country's biggest power couple will star as James and Margaret Dutton, the family’s patriarch and matriarch. Sam, who isn't new to the world of westerns and cowboys, will play Shea Brennan, who Variety describes as a "tough cowboy with some underlying melancholy to be revealed as he guides the emigrants from Texas to Montana."

Now that the show is filming in Fort Worth, Texas, we're starting to learn more and more about what's in store for us. McGraw, for example, shared photos of his character's leather journal and bullet-ripped jeans, telling fans that he's "gettin in the groove for 1883."

It looks like Elliott has undergone the most hair-raising transformation, though. Nic Sheridan posted a cute snap of her hanging out with the famed actor, but fans couldn't help but notice his impressive shoulder-length locks. At least this also confirms that his mustache is here to stay!

While Yellowstone fans may hope for Kevin Costnersightings, it's highly unlikely, given that the show is placed more than a century earlier. We won't rule out any flash-forward scenes with Kevin, Kelly Reilly, Luke Grimes or Wes Bentley, though.

Any spoilers about the show?

So, about that epic teaser during the Super Bowl. In the 10-second spot, snow whips through the mountains and a mysterious voice says, "I don't care if you live or die, but should you live, you tell 'em about me."

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

Shortly after the Super Bowl, Paramount+ offered a closer look at the series with commentary from the show's producer. "When we say the 'wild west,' what that really means is a west beyond the reach of the rule of law. It really is the beginning of an empire before it was an empire," Sheridan says, laying out the foundation for the Yellowstone prequel.

When Paramount+ initially announced the show, they wrote that 1883 follows the Duttons as "they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America." Although we know that the Duttons eventually became the owners of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States, the prequel touches on life before fortune. "It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America's promised land — Montana," the statement reads.

How can I watch and stream 1883 when it comes out?

Unlike Yellowstone, 1883 won't air on Paramount Network. Instead, it'll be available to stream exclusively on Paramount+. Along with 1883, users will be able to stream new and existing programming from channels like CBS, BET, Comedy Central, Nickelodeon, and MTV.

Subscription plans start at $4.99 a month, but you can test it out with a seven-day free trial. The only catch: If you cut the cable cord and want to stream Yellowstone and 1883, you'll have to splurge on Peacock (Yellowstone's exclusive streaming service) and Paramount+. No word if this will change in the years to come.

Prepare for a Dutton duo: The hit Paramount Network show Yellowstone is getting a prequel series that will look back at the Dutton family before they founded their Montana cattle ranch. Originally announced in February 2021, during the Super Bowl, 1883 (previously known as Y: 1883) remained mysterious for months, with only the vague promise that it would be hitting screens in 2021 coming from the show's teaser trailer (below). However, we're beginning to get some details about what to expect from this new entry into the Yellowstone universe.

Here's what we know so far:

When will it debut?

In mid-August, Paramount+ surprised Yellowstone lovers with the announcement that the prequel would be debuting Sunday, December 19 on the steaming service. It's a slight departure for the Yellowstone universe, as the original show premieres on Paramount Network and is available to stream via NBCUniversal's Peacock steamer.

Subsequently, on August 24, they announced that the show had officially begun production in Fort Worth, TX. It's a surprising move considering that with the current timeline, the schedule would only allow the show a little more than three months before the first episode debuts, but thus far there have been no further details about the schedule.

What's the show about?

As the name suggests, the show will focus on the Dutton family in the late 19th century as they set out westward across the Great Plains to create the Montana homestead that will one day become the focus of so many trials and tribulations for their descendants.

This content is imported from YouTube. You may be able to find the same content in another format, or you may be able to find more information, at their web site.

The official synopsis reveals, "1883 follows the Dutton family as they embark on a journey west through the Great Plains toward the last bastion of untamed America. It is a stark retelling of Western expansion, and an intense study of one family fleeing poverty to seek a better future in America’s promised land — Montana."

Faith Hill and Tim McGraw will star in the prequel.

In August 2021, it was announced that country music power couple Faith Hill and Tim McGraw will be starring in 1883 as James and Margaret Dutton, along with western-genre veteran Sam Elliott as Shea Brennan, a cowboy who guides the Duttons from Texas to Montana, according to Variety.

“This is truly a dream job,” McGraw said in a statement. “[Show creator Taylor Sheridan] has found a way of storytelling that brilliantly creates these epic dramas and family sagas with so much depth and creativity. The Duttons are tremendous characters and it’s so thrilling to be able to bring them to life. As a kid growing up riding horses, you think about dream jobs like this and I am just so excited to work with this amazing cast and crew.”

“This is the opportunity of a lifetime,” Hill added. “The Duttons are a formidable family and it is an absolute dream to bring such a strong female character like Margaret Dutton to life. I am humbled and honored to work with Taylor and his entire team.”

Rounding out the cast will be Isabel May (Alexa and Katie) who will play Elsa, the Duttons eldest daughter, and LaMonica Garrett (Designated Survivor) as Thomas, a Pinkerton who works closely with Sam Elliott's Shea.

It's not the only addition to the Yellowstone universe.

The 1883 prequel comes as part of a larger deal between Yellowstone co-creator, writer, and executive producer Taylor Sheridan and ViacomCBS and MTV Entertainment Group with an eye toward a number of new series, according to Variety.

Paramount+ has also announced that the show will be getting a spinoff, which is currently operating under the working title 6666. While details about the project are scarce, the synopsis released along with the show's announcement seems to suggest that it will be set on a modern West Texas ranch, with a history just as fraught and potentially dramatic as the Duttons'. Read the full synopsis below:

Founded when Comanches still ruled West Texas, no ranch in America is more steeped in the history of the West than the 6666. Still operating as it did two centuries before, and encompassing an entire county, the 6666 is where the rule of law and the laws of nature merge in a place where the most dangerous thing one does is the next thing ... The 6666 is synonymous with the merciless endeavor to raise the finest horses and livestock in the world, and ultimately where world class cowboys are born and made.
