Indy's Mike's Carwash spinning off into two companies
Mike's Carwash, an Indianapolis mainstay and pioneer in the business of getting cars sparkling clean, is set to separate into two companies.
As part of a reorganization between brothers Mike and Bill Dahm, the 41-store business will split — with 26 of the Indianapolis-area locations operating under the new name Crew Carwash.
A trademark filing in July reveals an approval for a white, black, red, yellow and orange sign (almost identical to the current Mike's Carwash sign) with the name "Crew Carwash." It was requested by Mike's Carwash Inc.
Moving forward, Bill Dahm will run the 26 Crew Carwash locations. Mike Dahm will operate the other 15 locations under the Mike's name, but with a new look. Expect to see the changes Oct. 5.
The move is a big deal for the Indianapolis company, headquartered at 10251 Hague Rd., which has always operated as one family business.
In 1948, founder Joe Dahm opened Indiana's first automated carwash in Fort Wayne, Mike's Minit Man. At the time, just 18 carwashes were operating in the United States.
By 1978, it had evolved into Mike's Express Carwash and in 1985, the company opened its first Indianapolis location on Allisonville Road.
By the 1990s, the business had been passed on to Mike and Bill Dahm (the sons of Joe Dahm) and expanded to Ohio and Kentucky.
The company recently took on the name Mike's Carwash, deleting the Express title.
Under the new agreement, locations in Indianapolis, Anderson, Columbus, Kokomo, Lafayette and Terre Haute will become Crew Carwash.
The carwashes in Cincinnati, Dayton, Evansville, Florence, Ky., Fort Wayne and South Bend will keep the Mike's name.
All Mike's coupons, gift cards and unlimited wash deals will be honored at Crew Carwashes.

4.9 out of 5
I love Mike’s and this app is pretty good also. My only issue is the fact that when you pull or try to pull up available washes it is really slow! Employees even say this is a major problem, hence it isn’t just my device. If that issue could be fixed that would be amazing. I still think Mike’s is the best!
App only opens/works on Wi-Fi at home! 😡
I’m giving your app 1 star because the App only opens/works on Wi-Fi at home! 😡
I have been a Mike’s Car Wash customer for over 10 years & have frequented multiple locations over the years. The fact that I have continued to utilize Mike’s Car Wash over their competitors has, until now, been their top-notch service & guarantee, so I was excited to hear about the Mike’s Car Wash app. Unfortunately, I’ve had nothing but trouble whenever I try to actually use the app! I have free car wash rewards that I’ve earned & whenever I attempt to redeem the reward when I get to the location, the app NEVER OPENS!! 😡 The attendant & I just watch a blank screen that never does anything else! Extremely irritating & a poor reflection on Mike’s reputation for high quality service. Such service needs to extend to the MOBILE app as well. A MOBILE app is of little use to me, when it only works from my home!!! FIX THIS!! Having done so, I hope to be able to return here with a much better app rating. - A disappointed Customer.
I say needs work cause I tried using my free carwash at one of your locations and after I hit redeem and held up my phone to the employee. They said “we can’t accept this cause of the app says it’s mike’s carwash and not the Crew Carwash”. And I went to go look for the Crew Carwash app cause they made it seem like there was separate apps for mikes and crews although I already knew that they were the same company. But ended up figuring out that your employees don’t really seem to know the product from the app and should learn about it cause I lost a free Carwash. I didn’t have any problems about the app but if the employees don’t know about their employers product, then the product itself is useless. I still got a Carwash and liked the results. I’m just very frustrated on missing the opportunity to get my free Carwash.

Upon arrival it was difficult to maneuver into the entrance, seems to be designed for smaller vehicles. Staff greeted us with a red carpet and a bouquet of roses. Blasted window with some white stuff that dripped in a "swimmer type fashion, followed by algae soap. While being attacked by an octopus we got more soap. After a small rinse we were blown dry by the slightest breeze kissed by Poseidon. All around a good experience
Good staff, quick and prompt , and price is worth it IF it's clean .... I went to get it cleaned with a ultimate wash and I clearly had bird poop on the roof and dirt on mirror area . Had to do minor touch ups after to clean it but if I knew it would happen I would've not spent my money to get it clean there while I could've done it right the first time .
Absolutely the worst! How is that even possible? Literally snapped my license plate out
The Fields Ertel location has a polite, efficient staff. The issue remains that my car has yet to come out of their cleaning tunnel completely clean. Always have water spots and soap residue on my windows. I have used their services off and on (monthly) for 3 years, and the issue has not improved. If my HOA will allow it, I will start washing my car at home and forego Mike's.
I have complained online about the 'service' this car wash provides, and have been ignored. Sunday 29 April I pulled in and clearly and politely told the gent that "I need a basic external car wash and That's All." The gent then starting spewing details about a 'special.' I cut him off and asked him to repeat what I just told him. He stood there mute, and I told him I didn't appreciate being ignored. I sent an online complaint, and got a reply on 30 April that ignored my complaint. The reply is posted below.
" We apologize that you were upset about your recent experience at our Fields Ertel location. We do train our team members to inform our customers about the best deals in the drive and to offer our customers the best value available to them. Due to our sponsorship with FC Cincinnati, our Ultimate wash was discounted to $15 on Sunday. This deal is not available every day and we have found that most customers appreciate at least being made aware of the deal whether they choose to take advantage of it or not. We always respect your wash choice and your ability to decline any offer. Thank you for bringing your experience to our attention. We appreciate your feedback and will use it as we continue to train all our team members."
This reply ignores the issue - that the staff is apparently told to not listen to customers, and always pitch an up sale. Unacceptable customer service, and an insulting reply. Train your staff in basic manners - if politely told what a customer wants, don't waste time with an up sale pitch.
Time to wash the car!!
I love the simplicity, efficiency, and speed of this service. The employees are always happy to see you. They always say thank you. Often when my youngest daughter is in the car they draw a cool smiley face for her.
Ok I must admit I love to open the cover of the sun roof so I can see all the colorful soap streams and water streams as I go through the wash !! It is so amazing!!
Cookie Monster is still my favorite!!

Thank you for the 5-star review, Teresa! We are thrilled to hear about your experience with our wash, our team, (and with cookie monster :) )! We appreciate your business and look forward to seeing you (and your vehicle) again soon!
Mike's Car Wash on Fields Ertel can see what negative posts can do for their image... so upset with them right now. I went there a few days ago to wash my car in the self service bay. When I got to the Spot Free Rinse, it wasn't working right, so I called an employee over to show him the problem. He offered that next time I come I could get free bay time or a basic wash. I was skeptical, so I asked him how would the person know to give me either next time I come? Mind you I had already washed my car for 15 minutes in the bay, and the lines for the regular drive thru wash alk lanes were full and spilling out to Fields Ertel. Which is why I asked about coming back another day. He said tell them his name and what happened, or ask for a manager.
So today I go there to get a wash, because of course it has been raining everyday for how many days this past week. I tell the worker that I was offered a free basic wash next time I come because of what happened the last time. The worker who had offered me the wash was actually in the other lane, so I told the guy that was him. The employee who offered previously at first acted like he didn't know what I was talking about (even though I knew his name). He then called a manager, who then told him to deny me. The excuse was that he offered the resolution for the same day I had the problem. Now why would I wash my car again on the same day that I had already just washed it??
I was at the front of the line of course when this happened, so they just denied a free simple wash, and made me have to cut over to exit. I guess good customer service is something you can't find nowadays, especially at Mike's Car Wash on Fields Ertel.

Jason- We would like to hear more from you regarding your recent experience. Please reach out to us at [email protected]….
Nice car wash, but expensive. For the price point you would think you would get complimentary vacuums like car washes with a similar concept, but again I am comparing it to the car washes in Columbus.
Business owner information
Thank you for your review, Damon! We do offer a few different options for you to save on your next visit. Mike's offers the Early Bird Special (7:00AM - 9:00AM) and all of our wash books are Buy 4, Get 1 Free! We appreciate your business!
I bought a carwash at Speedway and then went, "uhhhh, where's the carwash?" Well, it's across and down the street, at this place.
I think you get $1 off doing it that way- I paid $8 for a basic wash. Pull up, and an attendant takes your code, soaps markings on your windows indicating what needs done, and you pull up. Another worker presoaks your car. The wash itself is fully automated, and very nice: the car looked excellent afterwards. You can, I assume, get detailing, etc. There are definitely a lot of employees around, more than they need to run an automated carwash tunnel.
Fast, reasonably priced, and good quality.

Thank you for your review, Mark! We are happy to hear about your experience! We appreciate you business and look forward to washing your vehicle again soon!
Who would have thought going through a Carwash would be such a positive experience? I had pine sap on my car and nothing was getting it off so I went to Mike's on Glenway. After going through once, the young man suggested I go again to really get off the sap. He also voluntarily fixed a loose hubcap. The girl at the checkin couldn't have been nicer and my car has never been cleaner!
