When you see your Samsung dishwasher lights NORMAL – HEAVY – SMART AUTO flashing, you need to refer to the tech sheet on the device to decipher the error code. Samsung dishwasher is a smart appliance that means that in case any component is not working correctly, you can expect to get notifications.

Resolving error codes on the Samsung dishwasher is not hard; slight corrections such as adjusting water supply temperature or correct installation of drain hose should do the trick depending on the error.

· Caution! Before digging into what could be the problem, your attention is getting drawn towards, always be sure to cut off the power supply to the Samsung dishwasher. Testing the power outlet for proper voltage is also wise. And finally, turn off the water supply.

What Does the “Normal” “Smart Auto” and “Heavy” LED Flashing Mean?

So, you start a cycle, hear the water get in, but after a minute, the drain pump kicks on draining everything away before the wash cycle, then you get those NORMAL – HEAVY – SMART AUTO lights flashing? Well, what your Samsung dishwasher is trying to tell you is that there’s a problem with the case break sensor.

So when you got this error code, that means a low-water level error. A Samsung dishwasher has a case break overflow water sensor that monitors the water level and sends activation signals to the drainage pump in case of an overflow, low water level supply, or just a general water supply error.

If your Samsung dishwasher is in good condition, the drain pump shouldn’t kick in right after was filled with water. But if your dishwasher keeps draining out, then it could be due to

· A blocked supply valves

· A broken case sensor or it just dirty inside

· A problematic Flow

Samsung Dishwasher Error Code List

  • If HEAVY QUICK+ flashing – Heater Error
  • If NORMAL SMART AUTO flashing – High-Temperature Heating Error
  • If NORMAL HEAVY SMART AUTO flashing – Low Water Level Error
  • If SMART AUTO flashing – Water Supply Error. Check whether the water supply valve is closed or water supply is suspended or water inlet valve line is frozen or clogged by foreign particles.
  • If NORMAL QUICK+ SMART AUTO flashing – High-Temperature Water Supply Error. Check the temperature of the water to make sure it’s not high then 167 Fahrenheit or 80 Celcius.
  • If QUICK+ flashing – Drain Error. Check the drain hose and the drain pump.
  • If HEAVY SMART AUTO flashing – Over Level Water Error. Check Overflow Water Sensor (on the left side of the dishwasher) and blow into black rubber hose which is connected to the sump. If its clogged, that sensor (it’s actually 2 probs with blue wires connected to) will not “see” how much water got in the dishwasher. See pictures below
  • If HEAVY flashing – Leakage error. Water in the bottom pan of the dishwasher.
  • If NORMAL QUICK+ flashing – Button error.

How do you fix the low water level error?

1. Clean the Overflow Sensor

You will need a Philipps Screwdriver and a Longnose Pliers. Follow the manufacturer’s standard procedure to get to the overflow sensor.

The overflow sensor has two parts: The case sensor and the flow meter assembly. The flow meter assembly has a little spinning wheel, while the case sensor chamber has a floating piece that moves up and down depending on the water level in the unit.

The case sensor is just a rudimentary system with two exposed electrode prongs such that when water reaches them, the circuit becomes complete, and the draining mechanism is triggered.

But water is not the only thing that could complete the circuit. Residues from corrosion, molds, and hard water can also complete the circuit triggering the error code.

Therefore, in the case that the error code results from a corroded sensor, cleaning the sensor chamber should fix your dishwasher. To access the sensor chamber, use a half-inch drill to make holes near the sensor, taking caution not to damage the sensor electrodes or float piece. Next, use stuff such as alcohol, CLR, q-tips to get rid of hard water sum and mold.

Finally, seal back the chamber using a thick plastic and sealants that can handle high water temperature.

3. Replace Broken Case Sensor

In the case that cleaning the sensor chamber didn’t fix the Oe error code, then probably the case brake sensor is broken, and you have to pony up for a new Over Level Water Sensor. Follow the manufacturer’s guideline to install the new case brake sensor into your system. And if you still get the same problem, replace the flow meter assembly.

Depends on your dishwasher model, you will need the whole Case break assembly (click here) or just overflow sensor (click here).

A faulty case brake system does not only send overflow water level errors, but you could also get low water level error or water supply error. The hacks mentioned above should be able to fix the failure.

Smart Auto and Heavy LED signaling lights are common on Samsung dishwashers. Customers across the world are reporting frustrations due to the faulty case brake systems. You turn on the cycle, hear the water coming in, then suddenly the drainage pump kicks in, and all the water is gone! Very unfortunate.

If your water is hard, you can expect this failure at some pint down the line unless you use a water softener. And if the sensor chamber is already corroded, open it and give it a blitz as directed above. The good thing with drilling holes to clean the chamber and sealing them back with plastic is the plastic can be removed easily for future cleaning tasks.

And finally, in the case that all the above hacks don’t work, check if the unit is satisfied with the amount of water that is coming in. Leaking valves and drains can trigger the Smart Auto and Heavy lights too. Inspect the recesses of your dishwasher for leaking components. Tighten the water supply line dry the inside of the dishwasher using a paper towel.

If your Samsung dishwasher does not have a digital display, it is going to showcase information codes via its lights. Different combinations of dishwasher lights give other information codes. Fortunately, these information codes usually only need minimal adjustments to get rid of them.

Overview – Normal light blinking

Probably, Normal light flashes as a part of some combinations of information codes. A blinking Normal light signifies your dishwasher’s leak sensor detects moisture, or there is not enough water in your machine. But, a flashing Normal light in conjunction with other lights is going to signal a stuck button, short-circuited thermistor or hot water.

Samsung Dishwasher Normal Light Blinking – How to fix it?

Is the Dishwasher normal light blinking by itself or along with other lights? If the Dishwasher normal light is flashing by itself, it means that your dishwasher’s leak sensor detects moisture. The dishwasher is going to turn on while this code is present and not turn itself off.

    • Find out the Potential Leak

As a result of the leak, the dishwasher is going to try to drain away excess water. If you really see a leak, you are able to run a cycle to locate the leak. After you find the leak, please turn the dishwasher off at the circuit breaker.

    • Inspect the Seals and Hoses

You have to search for moisture by checking the water supply hose, the rubber seal and the drain hose.

    • Make sure dishwasher is level

If your dishwasher is not level, this is able to cause it to leak as well. Water will be able to pool at the front and spill out of the door.

    • Loosen the Cabinet Screws

If the cabinet screws of the dishwasher are too tight, this will be able to cause gaps in the dishwasher. Remember that the opening should be 22 inches across. You have to loosen the screws to decrease gaps and prevent further leaks.

    • Inspect the Water Nozzles

If the dishwasher’s nozzles have food stuck inside, this is going to force the water to spray at the dishwasher door. This will be able to push through the seal and make a leak.

What do you do if there is no leak?

    • If there is no identifiable leak, some other things are able to cause this information code. If you have run or moved the dishwasher, water will have splashed the sensor. Just allow it time to dry.
    • If the garbage disposal is connected to the dishwasher, you have to make sure that you remove the disposal cap. Also, you have to make sure not to overfill the dishwasher with detergent.

Dishwasher information codes which include the Normal Light

But, if the water is not too hot and the dishwasher information code still happens, this will need a repairman to fix it.

Also, this information code indicates hot water usage in the dishwasher. As with the Normal, Delicate, and Quick lights dishwasher information code, you have to check that the water is not more than 176 degrees. If the water is too hot, you have to lower the temperature. If the water is the right temperature and the information code remains, please contact a repairman.

Normal and Delicate Lights

Another dishwasher information code which will occur on your dishwasher is blinking Normal and Delicate lights. This dishwasher information code once again signifies that a button is stuck. If the dishwasher information code returns after you have turned the dishwasher back on, you should contact a repairman.

Normal, Heavy, and Express 60 Lights

This dishwasher information code signifies that the dishwasher’s thermistor has short-circuited. If your thermistor has short-circuited, you have to replace the thermistor or the dishwasher entirely. This will need a repairman.

Normal, Heavy, and Quick Lights

Another dishwasher information code is the combination of blinking Normal, Heavy, and Quick lights. This code showcases that the dishwasher is not using enough water. To get rid of this information code, you have to empty your dishwasher of all dishes. Please add dishwasher detergent to the dishwasher and run it on a normal cycle.

If this does not help, you have to check if the water supply valve is closed or the supply is suspended. Also, the water inlet valve could be frozen or clogged. If so, you have to turn the power off at the circuit breaker and close the water supply valve. Please contact a repairman for further assistance.
